Hello,

Can you place light ship fleets to protect trade in nodes where you do not have a colony or merchant, but you have colonial subjects and/or a protectorate?

Ex: England has a colonial subject in Hudson Bay but no colonies or merchants there. Can England send ships to protect trade by using their Colonial Subject's access?

I ask this because think I am bugged in a current MP game. My ships can be sent to my colonial nations but they "Spazz out" and the protect trade button flickers on and off, giving me their trade power a fraction of the time. I'm also trying to determine what exactly the bug is - should I be unable to send my ships at all (thus being able to dispatch them is the bug) or should I be able to collect trade in my colonial subject nodes and the bug is the spazzing out trade fleet?

Please confirm this by showing me a patch note or game feature quote if you know it. Thanks!

I believe you are correct but do you know where I can confirm that? Is it listed as a feature of colonial subjects somewhere by a GM?

Hate to be "That guy" that bumps his own threads but I searched the forum and cannot get an official answer on this. Should I be able to trade in nodes where I have no presence, but my colonial subjects do? Not that I don't believe mocoman2001, but I would like something more official. Thanks.

I can't cite anything for you, but I have literally done it myself, simply plopping a merchant in St. Lawrence as the Hansa and collecting there. I was able to protect trade there with light ships. Good money, too.

Well, I am talking without a merchant. With a merchant you can go anywhere within your trade range.

Sorry if I wasn't clear - can you send ships to areas where you have a colonial subject or protectorate, but no merchant or province belonging directly to you, and still send light ships to protect trade?

You should be able to as long as you have trade power. It's probably a bug that you can't.

No I don't think it's a bug - it's WAD. You can only send ships to a node in which you have a province or merchant. If that's not the case and you try to send ships it will let you press the protect button but then it will immediately deselect it. Also, the ships need to be within supply range of the trade node as well but protectorates/colonial nations do extend that.
