Assault Guns

Hi,

playing my first game as SU [huge fun, btw ] and want to develop assault guns to lower the cost of armored divisions. I researched medium tank '39 and artillery '38 but the assault gun '40 remained greyed out.

Have since researched medium tank '41 and artillery '41 but both AG '40 and AG '42 are still greyed out.

The .PDF lists the medium tank & and artillery as requirements, so I was wondering if there is there another tech I need to enable the AG research ?

I haven't researched any heavy tank techs.

Assault Guns also have a doctrine requirement - AG 40/42 need 1938 Firepower Doctrine, whilst AG 44/46 needs the 1942 Firepower doctrine, and finally AG 48 needs the 1946 Firepower doctrine.
