1. What’s the difference?

2. Assault guns were specifically assigned to infantry units, which they can not be here!?! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_gun

3 Why have them? If we’re going to have them, shouldn’t they be the one kind of mobile artillery that goes with foot soldiers? SP Art can then be restricted to mobile units only? SP Rocket Artillery could be an exception (if warranted) but AG vs SPArt seems to make no sense, barring a restriction of this nature.

Good questions, from that wiki article:-

"The primary German assault gun was the Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III)"

The StuG III is equipped as 1938 SPART in this game :D

Yes and YES! So far in my research I can't find anything listed as one, but not the other.
 
AFAIK, at first at least, the Germany army assigned the StuG to the artillery, no?

Though I also do not see the point of the assault gun brigade.
