An assault engineer bridage, or regiment, would be fun.
Very usefull in urban provinces, with 10 000 provinces there is more in HoI3, and against fortifications.

And a bridge building brigade, not only an engineer brigade, but a brigade which is able to build heavy campaign bridges and reducing the river crossing penality.

Okay lets formulate it this way then.

Did brigade size attachments to divisions with such specialized jobs exist?

Can you picture a full brigade of 4,000 to 5,000 men beeing equipped ONLY with specialized river crossing tools/vehicles?

I think it would look pretty funny... Would they need 5000men to build a human brige that can hold up a tank column? :D

Regiment size? perhaps, but I doubt we will have that in HoI3 granted they have said divisions will still be the smallest unit.

I use the HoI2 term...

The brigade size is not the same, for every country.

But if we can choose the regiments which there will be in one division, we can add the type of regiments or an airborne artillery regiment, a very heavy artillery regiment or a logistical regiment.

I hope Paradox gets rid of the whole HoI2 brigade concept anyways. The new modular division concept sounds promising, as long as it will not be like e.g. an infantry division has two infantry regiments and an artillery regiment OR an AA regiment OR an AT regiment... because then we are back to the HoI2 system, just with a new look.

I hope the new system adds some versatility to HOI3. After constantly seeing request after request for a better system than a simple divisional system, I would have thought Paradox would be wise to make some changes along the lines of the obvious popularity the brigade level of operation & 'build your own divison' ideas has.

With such an increase of provinces, is the division as the basic fighting unit still even realistic? We'll see I guess...

I personally can live with the divisional level of operation (although I think the game suffers where only small forces were involved, I think of the Afrika Korps here) as long as there is a LOT of customization that can go into building said division. 'Customization' through doctrine ala HOI2 is dull.
