I almost always play "vanilla" EU2 because I find the sheer number of EEP events for a lot of the European powers overwhelmingly constraining. Lots of good work there, but a lot of busy work, too. How many crippling events does Enrique of Castile need beyond his crappy ADM ratings?
If you like history acting as a straight-jacket on your actions instead of simply providing a setting, EEP is probably for you. I love events, but you can have too much of a good thing. It's a matter of taste, though.
EEP is really great for its non-European events and leaders- many of which make a great addition to EU2. If the translation issues could ever be worked out, this is where EEPs major contribution would be.
