Asking for opinions of EEP

I have not tried EEP, but want to ask the general forum for opinions. I think the EEP forum would be biased.

1) Does the EEP succeed in making the game more historically accurate as is the objective. (I am guessing yes)

2) Does EEP improve gameplay.

3) Does the EEP severely reduce ahistoric options.

4) Any comment as to why Paradox does not include these events in the game.

5) Do you prefer to play with EEP

Thanks for anyone willing to comment. Just trying to get a flavor of the difference in game experience. As a newb, my first thought is to why paradox does not incorporate all the extra events. The EEP information suggested they made these events due to lack of time on Paradox part. So if they are available I would guess Paradox would just incorporate them.

I believe so, especially in areas outside of Europe where the EEP crew has put more effort than was possible for Paradox. Not to say that it doesn't model European history much better, it does. It is a little bit more deterministic (i.e. more historical events means that the game is forced along more historical lines, even if it doesnt necessarily match the way the game is actually going).

2) Does EEP improve gameplay.

The game is fun either way, but if you prefer more historical events, leaders, and what not I would suggest playing with the EEP.

3) Does the EEP severely reduce ahistoric options.

I don't think so, most of the events have ahistorical options, although as I mentioned above it can be rather more deterministic than regular EU2.

4) Any comment as to why Paradox does not include these events in the game.

I believe one of the major issues is that this would involve translating all of the events into other languages, which would be far too much work for Paradox to do.

5) Do you prefer to play with EEP

I only play the EEP, my latest game was as Byzantium with the EEP's fantasy events, which make it much more interesting. I would suggest that if you're interested at all that you play a game with the EEP, it never hurts to install it because you can still play regular EU2 without a problem. Then just play the one you prefer.

I almost always play "vanilla" EU2 because I find the sheer number of EEP events for a lot of the European powers overwhelmingly constraining. Lots of good work there, but a lot of busy work, too. How many crippling events does Enrique of Castile need beyond his crappy ADM ratings? ;)

If you like history acting as a straight-jacket on your actions instead of simply providing a setting, EEP is probably for you. I love events, but you can have too much of a good thing. It's a matter of taste, though.

EEP is really great for its non-European events and leaders- many of which make a great addition to EU2. If the translation issues could ever be worked out, this is where EEPs major contribution would be.

Re: Asking for opinions of EEP

1) Does the EEP succeed in making the game more historically accurate as is the objective. (I am guessing yes)
yes, definitely. many things that people in the regular forum keep complaining about are remedies in my EEP games... Austria still encroaches into the HRE, but much less. France does so, too, but they have an overall much rougher time (a bit too rough, sometimes), for example the religious wars 1550-1580 keep them much too busy to try to gobble up german minors. Also, Turkey sometimes does amazing things. Sometimes they siege and take Vienna, sometimes they don't.
2) Does EEP improve gameplay.
Yes :D Definitely. More events = more fun, especially with the minor nations. And I like alternative history, which the EEP provides in superb quality. You can play England and win the HYW and get events that model the religious wars in France under the altered circumstances, you can play Byzantium and resurrect the empire of old (or die trying, it ain't easy) you can play the Knights and go on crusades with big consequences...
3) Does the EEP severely reduce ahistoric options.
No. But they always make the historical choice the logical one... the ahistorcial events sometimes bring very nice sideeffects in the long run, but very harsh effects in the short run.
5) Do you prefer to play with EEP
Yes. The flow of history is much better with EEP, and leaves you with much more to do. Big powers get big events...

That is true. It is cool to play EEP as Muscowy and realize that you have a war against Suzdal and Kazan by events. It was a real surprise for me when I experienced that. Luckily I wasn´t involved in a war time but it was a shocking surprise. I think that there are many cool events waiting to be discovered by unlucky players.:D

EEP does much for minor nations also. Most minor nations in "vanilla" EU2 don't have any events.

Personally, I really enjoy the EEP, and in fact can't go back to playing "vanilla". I just really like events, they're fun. I don't find my ahistorical options limited, I've nearly got all of the Netherlands united in the mid 1400's, and I've had a couple chances to hand it over to Burgundy and refused...made it tougher at times, like I assume in real life, but not impossible.

The guys who did the EEP have done a thorough and excellent job, not saying the guys at Paradox didn't, but Paradox had a whole lot more on their plate, and the EEP team could get more in depth into things. I definitely recommend installing it and giving it a whirl, see if it's for you.

I have, however, had problems with game stability. On v.1.3.1, I had it happen a lot where the game would just crash back to desktop, and this would happen repeatedly upon reloading, forcing me to abandon that game. I haven't had that problem with 1.3.2 yet, and don't know what caused it, but I also haven't had as much time to play it yet. So give it a try, but be wary.

I went through all mods that did not require a modified executable a month ago, testing them in my debugger.

1.31, which I tested had an huge amount of errors, which I reported, and they are probably fixed, which probably explains the stability problem.
