I'd like to make a suggestion regarding an idea for improving the launchers for the four active games (CK2, EU4, HoI4, and Stellaris), but I'd rather not spam the forum by making identical threads in all four suggestion subforums. Is there somewhere general I can make a single suggestion thread, or should I just make the four identical threads in the games' individual suggestion subforums?
Probably the sub-forum you're in right now: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?forums/paradox-development-studio.720/

Oh well the POSIX penguin is here as well lol
Do your programmers have any say in the design of a game?
Yes we do, sometimes a bit to much and sometimes to little (but we have a say i promise)

Which dev team screams the most in anger at the code?
It is not the team it, is certain devs (me included) lol. but in general i think we share the anger, it is c++ (you cannot hate it but you cannot love it)

What programming language would you say is the easiest for someone to try and learn out of curiosity or rather the best to start out with learning?
I started with C# and found it quite helpfull with it's garbage collector and many options.

Python is pretty good as one's first language. The syntax is quite simple, and there's less boilerplate needed to start out than many languages.

The development is an open secret.
They don't want us to know they are working on it, but they are and we all know it.

If you want to propose an actual good language within the same kind of scene I would say Ruby.

Hi, I'm developing an RTS in Unity, and it's of somewhat similar concept to Cities: Skylines. I'm relatively new to Unity, and I'm creating this game as part of my thesis, and it's essentially a generic educational RTS, and by generic I mean that the educational material can be of any subject that will be imported via XML.
Is it possible for you to give me an email address or suggest some way I can perhaps get in contact with someone for the purpose of getting some pointers in regards to developing my game? I only need a bit of help with road creation, and I don't need code segments or anything like that, simply the logic behind how you chose to have your road creation like that, and if there's a way for me to use an overly simplified version of something similar, since I'm planning on only having straight roads that snap on the World Axis. Currently I'm using procedural mesh generation to create my roads, no splines or anything like that, however the result is a bit clunky and unrefined, so I'm looking for a more elegant solution. Again, don't need code, just wanna have a conversation with someone who can give me some actual pointers for me to get a better idea of what I should be doing.

I'm trying to teach myself programming from scratch, starting with Java. Basically, I realized much too late in life that I like coding and would like to become a professional - particularly within the game design industry. (by late in life, I'm being a little dramatic, as I'm 23). Once I have a firmer grasp on Java, would C++ be a good next step or would something like Ruby be better?

Edit: In particular to work for Paradox, as I've been checking your careers page since before I had graduated high school :p

Cities Skylines was made by Colossal Order and only published by Paradox, so you might have better luck asking in the other "Ask Paradox anything" thread.

Java is a pretty good learning language, and C++ and Java are very similar apart from C++ being way more annoying. Going from Java and then learning all the ways C++ allows you to shoot yourself in the foot is a pretty good path. That being said, once you have learned one programming language, learning others is much faster, and can often open your mind to new paradigms and techniques. If you are gunning for C++ though, learning some low level things like Assembler or C will also be useful.

Bit of an odd question here somewhat.

I've alway's liked a lot of the art in Europa with the event popup's and I also like the way the different species in stellaris look. I'm just curious to whomever does the art for these games in Paradox, what would you give for advice at getting better at art in general with drawing people/animals?

Two of our artists wanted me to relay these answers to you:

"You kinda answered your own question. To get better at drawing people/animals you need to draw people/animals.

Google for "Burne Hogarth pdf" and "Andrew Loomis pdf"

-Simon Gunnarsson"

"Yes, drawing a lot is essential. My advice is dedication and discipline. So start a pet project. For example. Draw 1 picture every day. Or have a goal of 5 completed pictures every week. No matter what, do not break this rule! If you don't have 5 pictures done by Sunday, you don't sleep until you do. The only exceptions would be if you are sick with high fever and can't even draw a straight line. I would say this this is a good method for getting good at anything but it requires a lot of dedication and discipline.

When it comes to specifically drawing people/animals, study their anatomy. A lot of artists divide up the body parts into geometrical shapes before going into the skin and the details. This may help you draw these beings in various angles and poses. Obviously, there is more freedom there when it comes to fictional creatures.

Ultimately though, it comes down to: JUST DO IT!!!

Good Luck ^_^

-Timor Khanagov"

How's your day?

Been good so far. My mother gave me a ride to several large stores that are hard to visit when you don't have a driver's licence. I bought new bath towels from Mio (an interior design shop), handles, a rug, and a soap dispenser from IKEA, tiles, joint sealers, wallpaper paste, and two ceiling lamps from Bauhaus (building supplies store). Currently remodeling the kitchen and next week is *hopefully* the last week living in chaos with no kitchen and practically no access to the living room. Now I will play The Witcher 3 for the second time and then go to bed.

How's your day?
