What exactly are you interested in? Game design can be so many different things so it is hard to give a general advice. You could try to find a mod team that needs help, ModDB can be a good place to start looking.
@SolSara : how does it feel to be a dev-god and isnt it awesome?
So far, my experience is limited to making Doom maps and a few Warcraft 3 maps. I am interested in level design. I am not quite so good at this.
Should I post a video of one of my projects here?

If you want advice, then OT would probably be the better bet than this thread.
You could start a thread about your projects in the OT forum and post videos there, put a link to it here then. The OT people can be quite helpful sometimes. Got emu'd by Health though
There's lots of good tutorials out there regarding level design, I would recommend that you try Unreal Engine. If you Google "Unreal Engine level design" you can find "Level Designer Quick Start | Unreal Engine". I haven't done much level designing myself but I know people at other studios that work with it. If you have experience with an engine such as Unreal it is easier to find mods that you can work on and if you decide to become a level designer as a full-time job then that's a great engine to know.
What do you think of the Source Engine by Valve?
Strangely, it is where the iD family and Warcraft 3, "converge" (for want of a better term). The Source Engine has been used to make Half Life (which is heavily derived from Quake 1, someone got Half Life 1 running on the Quake 1 Engine,) Games and Dota 2. Dota 2 is the closest thing atm to a modern Warcraft 3. Is this impression accurate?
I also have almost 2k hours in Dota 2, so I would like an engine I use regularly.
I have almost no experience with the Source engine, but I did spend a lot of time messing around with Quake and Doom custom levels and mods, mostly playing them rather than designing.
I am seriously considering Unity as well.
I'll seriously consider creating a thread on OT. and I'll ask further questions there after this.
I've created a thread here:

I love Knights of Honor but I would like to see a patch for the resolution.
Ever thought about one?
When that stopped they closed the old forum. Well that was the given reason. The rights for this IP is no longer the property of Paradox Interactive
Because we only sell Steam keys, and those games are not on Steam. Also why aren't the first 2 EU Games or the first HOI in the store to be bought?
Anyone looking for EU2 I'd strongly recommend looking at For the Glory which is available on Steam. Also why aren't the first 2 EU Games or the first HOI in the store to be bought?
