Be honest, you were hoping for porn when you started searching.

Did you know that all Australian bananas grow straight, and they have to go through a process to make them bent, like consumers expect? There's just one place in the whole country where this happens: they arrive in this town straight, and they Bendemeer.

I totally forgot to mention that I have also been working with destruction of top secret documents. :)

More like: I don't always find bugs, but when I do, it's in your software.

(He (or his team) is actually really, really good at QA. And I should know.)

Thanks a lot! The vast majority of all bugs have been discovered by our beta testers. They are the ones that should be thanked a lot for the increased quality of our games!

The first link that comes up is a story about a guy suspended for carrying a banana in the office like it was his ... waving it at others...

I have a masters degree in computer linguistics which I have never been able to use professionally. I have been working with plenty of strange stuff to finance my studies. Moving furniture and pianos for 4 years, art (nude) model for 9 years and about 10 other less exciting professions. I have also been a banana humper (yes that was actually my working title, but it's not at all as exciting as it looks ;) ) and a ringer (cowboy) in Australia.

If I changed my custom title to "banana humper" would a mod get angry? :D

3. What kind of backgrounds do you guys have, as in what would you be doing if you weren't making games? I doubt you're all IT grads (plus a couple of historians). Like probably many people here I used to dream about making games, as kid, so this is just a personal interest question but humour me if you will. ;)

I want to answer this one too, fun question! I have a MSc in Media Technology, and I would probably do something IT if I did not work with games. I'm not sure what since I've been working with games since I graduated six years ago. Some of my prior work experiences though are working for a retailer of electrical appliances, as a taxi coordinator and IT-consultant. I'm nowhere as fun as artfox. :/

What is each of the Paradox employees' personal contribution to the company they are most proud of?

I've set up an internal wiki for the dev team, the forum upgrade was a big deal, and also moving the forum to the new servers was quite cool.
As far as the games go, I designed and scripted most of the CK2 tutorial. It's not the best tutorial ever, but I think I did fairly well.

Latest version is 4.1.12, which is mostly a security\bugfix update (as were 4.1.6-4.1.11) , so it shouldn't break anything.
Ha! Tell that to vbulletin... Each and every upgrade so far has broken the templates completely, and I don't expect them to stop doing that any time soon. Theirs is not a very simple system to work in either, it's not like it's just CSS files...

Well, there has been two major overhauls. One way back in time, before you joined I guess. That was the biggest change. Then we had the upgrade a year or two ago(time flies fast!) where we got the current look. It did change somewhat from the look before, but the changes were mostly in functionality and smaller changes in style. And the addition of the useless facebook button ofc. I wonder when that one will begin to work properly.:p

As hinted in my previous reply, getting the templates to feel somewhat like the same old forum from before the upgrade, took a LONG, LONG time. And it was hard.

I'd like to know, with Defender of Ardania, And Warlock, will we see a Majesty 3 soon? Majesty too have many flaws, I still love it but the main thing its gotten right is the principle game-play, controlling the units with flags is not necessarily the best way to do it, and I am sure that new ideas will come up if they are thinking of a new instalment, the most appealing part of the game is building a city, even though it is rather Age of Empires like, would be nice to be able to build something that looks more like a actual city with more realistic sizes and such. AND The fact that the people in the city and the heroes live their own lives. What would be cool would be to have control over what advisor's you have, like if you have a good military commander, the troops are trained better under his command, and that the way you have control over it is how good your captains and commander are depends on your military educational system. The Steward on how well the economy is running and the amount of corruption, all of them living their own lives. That is what is appealing about Majesty 2. What I think I and many other would like to see in a third instalment or a spiritual successor is more focus on the things that attracted people to the genre, City Building, And people Living in that city.

There is many people that would love this, take a glance over the Majesty 2 Forums, I personally know a lot of people that would love to see it. And It is more the game-play than it is the lore in that world. Yes the Advisor is cool and so forth. But it is that special feeling it gave of running things and pulling the strings that people loved.
I like Defender of Ardania.
I Loved Warlocks Master of the Arcane.
But I'd still have preferred them making a third instalment to the Majesty Series.

Is it a possibility?

Hey, guys. Thanks for all the replies. You're quite a bunch of interesting folks, all of you!

1) i assume you talk about ck2.. I know we got some spritepacks in the pipeline, and some more music.. There is also a few enhancements we've planned now that we know what you want to see.. I guess you'll see some announcements during may..

Great! I'm always in for new music. I really like the current tracks along with the new ones from the DLCs and the old EU1 or EU2 ones (Spanish court dances from late middle ages... 'nuff said).

2) One ceo back in the days when we were Paradox Entertainment wanted us to make "a medieval EU". so me, doomdark and greven spent 3 days in a meeting room and came up with a 10 page outline for the original idea...

So that's how it started... ;) Well, no offence but I'm pretty glad they locked you three up there, considering the outcome. ;) Definitely been one of my favourite games so far (both 1 and 2).

3) I know we got people with educations in everything from animation to programming, from economics to moviemaking. Me personally I'm a college dropout...

Anyway.. I'm a firm believer in the 10,000 hour theory.. If you spend that amount of time practising something, you will become great at it.. I spent most my sparetime programming from when I was 14... and started working a gamesprogrammer at 19.

Yeah, I agree with that. I started programming at a similar age too. Sometimes I wonder what if things had taken a different turn and I'd taken the IT path, except I wouldn't have passed the maths, let alone any physics. At least some two years after law school I became a translator, so sometimes I got to translate something related to games when I worked for an agency that had this kind of jobs. Always made my day better, especially when they let me translate into English, which felt so cool. What have you coded other than games (although I imagine coding for games is a very wide area... at least unless people get narrowly specialised like in the largest dev companies)?

Except from a degree in game design I have two degrees in screenwriting. I've also worked as a bank teller, an armored car driver and as a bartender. Basically the perfect background for a scripter...

I agree. ;)

I studied Computer Games Development - Design at the University of Skövde and got a Bachelor of arts in Media 2009. Don't know what I would do if I weren't making games, I have worked as a proof reader for a Poker website, telemarketer who tried to sell socks and underwear, a lifeguard at Skara Sommarland and as a domestic worker. The only thing I liked and would do again would be proof reading, I love reading and it was very fun finding misspells and grammar mistakes. In Swedish, mind you, my English grammar isn't as great but I have become much better at it since I started working at Paradox.

I think you should team up with Captain Gars one day for some easter eggs. Lloyd George and Clemenceau fixing a White Russian while bluffing each other at cards could be priceless... "Just saying".

I'm a (nuclear) physicist by education.
That doesn't quite mean I'd be doing that if I weren't working on games. In fact, I currently don't really see myself going back to doing anything physics, but one never knows (just like this was rather unexpected)

chance and happenstance, really :)

Yup. :)

That's how one acquires an endless supply of stories, isn't it?

EDIT: Ooops, sorry for taking so much space!

IIRC CK 1 was originally developed by an outside studio (Russian?), but things didn't quite work out and Paradox had to finish it? I might be completely wrong though..
