I think this is as good time as any to just clarify that we don't plan to report in a more detailed fashion than we do today, what stage different patches, updates etc are in. In fact, I think we are pretty transparent and communicative about these things already in comparison to a lot of other devs/game companies. I appreciate you are passionate about specific games, but looking at it from our end of the spectrum we have a back catalogue of more than 150 games, work with more than 30 distribution platforms (excl. retail) and more than 20 dev teams at any given time. To go into day to day details and progress of every single project doesn't make sense, and is not something we plan to do. It's ok if you don't agree with our stance, but I thought I should clarify so that you know what to expect from us down the line.

Kind regards
Susana Meza

Again I feel I have to clarify. You(paradox) as a publisher spent two weeks silent on whether a patch had even been looked at since the devs gave it to you. I can understand leaving day to day updates at bay and even after a week of nothing maybe, but you didnt tell us(the fans) or IRSHAPPA ID(the devs) anything after 2 weeks till we started nagging. Also its no excuse to say you have too many games in your back catalogue, if theres not enough staff being employed to handle your products employ more to handle the workload, thats how business works. And you only have 15 games atm that are "current" for which iron cross is one of them, and as such should receive more of your time as a publisher then the other 135 games.

With other paradox titles you have shown great speed in the time taken between when devs hand over a patch and when the publishing team either give it all clear or they dont. It seems this time nobody bothered to even look at this patch at all for two weeks(and im pretty sure of this since Johan said it failed at the first hurdle, it which case why did it take two weeks to get to the first hurdle?). Just to pick up again on what you said, we dont ask for day to day updates, especially from you as a publisher as the devs tell us what we need to know on the forums too pretty much daily, BUT you didnt even tell the devs ANYTHING for two weeks. So thats why all of us fans have been on here asking you guys questions cause you dont seem to check your emails much. So enough excuses just keep up the good service we have learned to expect from you guys.

The patch was mailed to Johan when he was on his first vacation in 10 years, and the developer did not wait for him to come back as instructed in the mail before going public.

The broken patch was given out as a beta quickly after he got back at the office.

Might sound like a strange question, but how do you guys do the soundtrack for your games? Is it all synthesizer or do you do recordings of live music?

We definitely record live music (at least for some games. I don't know all the details for every game produced so far). If you are interested in music, there may be a pleasant surprise for you in one of our upcoming titles.

That's good to hear. I think that it's well worth the effort, to add some ambiance to the game, especially if you could tie it somehow to what is going on with the player: some war music, something more soothing for peacetime. You might not be able to contract with John Williams, but it would be cool if someone got a Grammy for the soundtrack of one of your games. ;)

Finally, I have to say that the scream of death that happens every time a character dies in Rome gave me chills, at least the first twenty times. :) Can I look forward to happy baby giggles when an heir is born in Sengoku or CK2, for example? Keep up the good work.

Wyatt Earp is probably my favorite film in the western genre.

@ Questioning:

Is it likely for a well known digital distributor to deliberately tarnish the reputation of a developer/publisher (by purposely corrupting the code, thereby dissatisfying customers) if it felt that that dev/pub-company would later become a formidable competitor in the DD industry?

No, out of the question.

I already knew people were on holiday. Didnt think you would have a system where only one person can check the emails and receive the patches, unless of corse you don't and IRSHAPPA emailed it to Johan when they should have emailed directly to the publishing department? What ever the case i dont seen any excuse for it having taken two weeks even if it wasnt your fault and instead was IRSHAPPA's.
Its good that Johan finally got some time off! he definatly deserves it. But i thought sweden had compulsory holiday.

I guess you don't have it, but HoI3 already has dynamic music based on what's happening in game. There's all sorts of triggers: War/peace ofc, but also having a larger army than your enemy or having won more battles than you've lost recently will player more triumphant music etc.

Question: What do you refer to as your history franchise (I speak of EU: Rome, EU, Victoria and Hearts of Iron) as? They may not have the same mechanics, but they have several things in common that many people see them as part of the same group.

It will help in conversations when people are comparing it to other 'similar' series, such as Total War and Civilization (which both have simple one names to refer to). And we cannot just say Paradox games, because you make other stuff as well!

We publish other stuff, not make it. You could refer to ours as "Clausewitz" games perhaps? Or "Europa" for the pre-EU3 games.

Hmm... true, but you are famous for more than your Clausewitz games. But Clausewitz is a good name all around (although harder to spell than Total War or Civilization). Unless you call it Johan's Europa.

I mean, it would be a good excuse to release them all in a box and call them "The Clausewitz Saga" or something. Like the special edition of Civilization which included Civ1-4.

How much has Magika's success steered your development of late?

Wow, long answer required.

Short Answer: Tremendously - the finiancial success allows us to sign more games that are unusual and innovative and allows us to stay "bold". Also we have the luxury to add more polish to some games instead of rushing them. Finally it has opened a ton of new doors for us. I get at least one email a week from cool developers who say "we never considered working with a publisher before seeing what you dod for Magicka - you really get games and gamers".

Long answer: I don't have time now - will get back to you - but one thing - it does not mean we'll just be making Magicka-type games.

That is a great answer, thanks Shams. Its good to hear the success of one type of game allows you to grow another type. I never thought about the developer aspect of it, interesting effect.
