Are the three Ascension Paths ethos-restricted? Could I play a spiritualist empire that worships the machine as the highest form and go full synth? Does anyone know?

Hive Mind ethos restrictions aside, that is.

I don't think the devs said anything about ethos restrictions. This thread here (https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...empire-is-just-fine-becoming-a-robot.1002562/) actually talks about how annoying it is that, for example, spiritualists are quite fine with synthetic ascension.
Wiz however responded that there are some factions against that but this isn't fully fleshed out. So that should be a "No, there aren't ethos restrictions, your spiritualists can go full synth without any problems whatsoever, except for a faction forming, so keep your armies ready" :)

Psionic Ascension can only be chosen by a spiritualist government, Synthethic Ascension requires Materialism. Bioengineering Ascension has no ethic restriction and is the 'default'.
Albeit, depending on implementation, you might be able to start i.e. the Synthetic Ascension path, then faction-switch to spiritualism later on. No idea whether that would work ingame.

What? Where are you getting this information? I have heard absolutely stating any ascension path being locked into an ethos. Only that Hive minds are locked out of psi and synthetic.

Ok read that wrong. Thought it was saying only if you don't own Utopia you cant get psionics as a non spiritualist. But you are right the first tech Psionic Theory requires spiritualist regardless if you own utopia or not

That is completely incorrect. Any path can be chosen by any nation. They'll just have to deal with the consequences of going against their ethics if they choose against themselves.

Do you guys even bother reading dev diary's before accusing other people of being liars?

The only difference is that psionics can now only be researched by Spiritualist empires, though it is entirely possible for an empire that does not start out as Spiritualist to acquire psionics by shifting their empire ethics to Spiritualist over the course of the game, and once you start down the Psionic path it is possible to continue along it even if you stop being Spiritualist.

Yes I did and I misread it, to which I already admitted. Also I never accused you of being a liar, simply asked where you got your information.
Apologies if that offended you, latter part was mostly referring to the other guy. Couldn't bother to type that out in two seperate responses, should probably have done that tho.

Hive Mind ethos restrictions aside, that is.
- You need Spiritualist to go the Psionic Path. And if you got Utopia, the Ascension path is the only way to progress in the Psionics techtree too*

- Spiritualist always had a significanlty reduced weight for Robot tech, wich is a requirement for progressing the Technological Ascension path. We will have to see if starting that path increase the tech weights. I could easily see the Spiritualist Factions not liking that Robot research. Much less progressing along the ascension path.

- I see no limitation on the the Biological Path at all. Both Spiritualist, Materialsit and even Hiveminds seem to be able to take that path. But again the Perks replace/lock technology*

- the 4th ascension path of course, is taking none of them. There are other Ascension Perks in the list, after all.

*Basically Ascension Perks act as additional gates/repalce the technology if you got Utopia. At least if I understand the DD's right.

I have issues seeing Spiritualists going past the 1st Step techno Ascension. the Spiritualist Shtick is, that we "are more then just the collection of all our mater and chemical processes". Materialist shtick is "we are not more then the collection of all our mater and chemical processes".
For the Materialist Uploading would be a no-Brainer (pun intended).
While it would be rather pointless for the Spiritualist. Would you Soul, Spirit, Psionic Matrix or whatever not continue on it's journey? Would the Robot created in your image grow a new one?

The ascension victory perks are mutually exclusive. Once you've picked one, there's no turning back. Maybe if your loyalist ethos changes, but that I don't know yet.

Small note: they're "Ascension Path" perks, not "Ascension Victory" perks. They aren't a new win-condition.
But they differ to other ascension perks, and should technically be labelled as such. Some provide 1 off bonuses, while the evolution, pisonic and synthetic ascension perks lead directly to their own victories, so it would be much better to call them Ascension Victory perks. Then again, its just a name. Call them what you will.

My fanatic spiritualists will upload their very soul. And their religion says thats its fine only difference is that they decide themselfes when they want to press the "delete button" not "age". My Synths will even be able to use psyonics?

How will I do that?

Mods.
I think it will be pretty easy to unlock the Ascension paths for everyone and also make them not exclude each other if you want to have for example
psyonic cyborgs.

But for the OP yes in the vanilla game (and not completly without reason)

-Only spiritualists can choose the Psy Ascension path
- Everyone can choose the Bio Ascension path
-Hive minds can only choose the Bio Ascension path

Though there was no mentioning (as far as I remember) which limits the synthetic path to materialists.

Only the machinist civic is said to be bound to the materialists as starting ethos,

How so? After all, Ascensions use two perk slots, so two ascensions would use four... which could be used for other bonuses, megastructures and so on. It seems like three ascension paths aren't really objectively better than other perks, they are just a lot more interesting.
