So... Utopia has brought a lot to the table so far and will probably bring even more in the future. So here I humbly try to explore the possible potential of showcased features. There are so many unique technologies throughout the galaxy, yet our civilization can't even learn the basic woodcutting before achieving FTL and living metal (something that is almost achieved right here on Earth, right now via nanotech) seems to be unimaginable concept to it after centuries of FTL. So, since Utopia broadens the tiny mental horizons of our species, why not take it a step further?
To me, one of the most cool features would be cryogenic freezing. Have you ever found yourself in the situation where your admiral dies of old age in the midst of war, halving your naval strength? You could potentially solve it with cryogenic preservation. You would always be able to freeze the best of your men to await the dark ages of your civilization(presumably via a special project). While in stasis, they loose their experience at 1lvl/several decades pace, as the world they used to know is no more, giving them some... Difficulties. Also they will loose 5 of lifespan per freezing procedure.
Another idea is creating shielded worlds, which will require a lot of resources but will have it's own bonuses. For instance, it can be used as way for pacifists to "occupy" enemy planets, while avoiding the whole bombardment thing. Of course, the shield can theoretically be brought down by anyone's science ship. It also can be theoretically used to "store" ships you don't have the naval capacity for and other funny things. Both of these things probably should demand A-Perks.
Other perk ideas are:
"Unwavering Loyalty" - the population of your planets get a double happiness malus if they are annexed by someone, making them seek the way back to you. By any means necessary. May require One Vision?
"Self Sacrifice" - allows two things: kamikaze fighters that crash into enemy ships, causing massive damage, the obvious downside being the limit of those. Second one is "Self-destruction Sequence" auxiliary module for ships, allowing them to crash into enemies dealing size-dependent damage and reducing their max health (because a bunch of explosives doesn't really improve ship's structural integrity). The trigger for crashing is yet to be decided, however.
"Preservation of Wilderness" - allows turn many tile blockers into preserves, giving the adjacent tiles some research as well as planetary wide 2% happiness or something.
So, what do you think? What are your ideas?
