As Shogun: How can I decrease "Shogun Influence"? so that I can declare war on a Daimyo?

You see what influences stuff when you mouseover it. To decrease your influence, you usually need to reduce your relations with the other shoguns, and maybe your prestige, and then it takes a lot of time. Be careful not to decrease it too much, or you get deshoguned.

Thanks for replying.
Is there no other way? Basically, what I want to do (as Minamoto) is to declare War on one Daimyo (Taira), but maintain my good relations with the other two (Tachibana and Fujiwara).

"use the decision in the shogun panel for -40 shogun influence."

Too late, already done that. Mistake, I know

Get relations below zero with Taira, and then your influence will slowly decrease.

But you could also use that "Shoguns Claim" spy mission?

Relation with Taira is already about -200. I have too much Prestige probably and relations are too good with the other Daimyos.
I haven't seen this spy mission yet and don't know what this is. I haven't used a spy so far. Spies seems very costly and chance of success seems so small, imho.

You need to torpedo your prestige, that was by far the worst part of my Japan game-waiting 20+ years for prestige and then influence to drop enough for the next war on a Daimyo. You can't really do much at all to pass the time as anything that gains you prestige is counterproductive.

standard strategy is to put 2 daimyos into PUs - inherit those and then use the -40 decision to get war on the third one-make sure you end that war with a province next to their national focus, so you get border friction CB for subsequent wars.

You could always war people outside of Japan.

Well, build up 300 gold, get a spymaster, hire ninjas (Decision you can get if you've got that spymaster :p), and the you shouldn't have any problems with success :p

300 Gold is way beyond what I have.

Sounds good. Obviously I have to learn this Personal Union-thing. But I don't think I like PU because you need to wait and it seems you have to be lucky. But I will try this in my next game.
Strategy is this, right?:
1) Royal Marriage
2) Claim Throne
3) Claim Throne Casus Belli
4) Go to war against target
5) Build up good Relations with target
6) Wait, wait, wait, until MY (!?) Daimyo dies, so that his successor can inherit my throne and target throne altogether?
7) Having now PU (hopefully I am not the Junior-Partner?), so that I can unify my two countries (?)

You mean doing other things outside Japan in the meantime? But what can I do? I have conquered Okinawa already (which seems not a good idea, because I need to have troops stationed there) and I can't colonize. Do you think, going to war with some Pacific countries (Brunei etc) would be a good idea?

You don't get to be the junior partner if you win the war for the throne of course. :D

Anyway if your treasury allows it you can also use the spy mission Fabricate Claims (or is it Forge Claims?) to get your posterior on their throne. :)

Personal Unions are usually the part of the game giving the most satisfaction ... at least for me as a regular Austria player. :D

Pretty much like this, yes. And especially in Japan this is usually way faster then taking all of their provinces for 8 infamy each, or however much it costs with the spy mission. Not to mention that the PU (Which you gain instantly as soon as you win the war) means that the other nation will be your ally unconditionally in any war you fight. So basically, once you PU one other daimyo, you should be as strong as the other two put together, and not have any more problems in japan. Then, just keep prestige and relations positive, and wait for your daimyo (he is actually the daimyo of both nations now) to die. Further advantage: when you inherit the PU, all provinces of your culture group are instantly cored, which means any in japan.

Satisfaction guaranteed!
I tried your Tips and it worked: After numerous new beginnings and reloadings in order to understand the quite unintuitive game-mechanics of the Personal-Union-Part of EU3 and of EU3 in general, Japan was finally united (with luck of course) in 1424 (as I have seen in an other thread 1410 is possible, though).
Relations between me (Minamoto) and the junior partners in the PU have to be very high probably along with other variables, so I had to spend a lot of money on gifts.
TY for your help!

Okay I know the op is satisfied with all your answers, but I think someone forgot to mention that when you do the spy mission "Shogun Forge Claims on Daimyo" or whatever it is called, and I believe you have to get CAUGHT, you instantly lose 10 shogun influence. So if you pause the game, have a good chunk of cash saved up, and don't have high spy efficiency you then try 3 or 4 times getting caught hopefully 3 times then you can declare war before the month ends. Although what other people said to do is much faster then to force others to give up their lands.
