As Protestant, what could you do if AI league leader does not start war?

Scenario: I (Prussia) joined the protestant league with Ottomans on our side, while the Catholics have only a weakened Austria and a normal Spain. Yet, the stupid OPM leader Frankfurt never starts the league war and it has been 25 years since the league fired. IIRC, the Catholics win after 30 years?

Should I declare war on him or his ally to take his leadership away? Or just annex him directly? What would you guys do in your games?

(P.S. would love to see devs specifying how leader is selected in later patches)

IIRC, declaring war on the leader of the Catholic League will put you in a war against the entire League. Maybe seeing you slapping them around will inspire Frankfurt to pull the trigger for the rest of the Protestants.

It would be a risk, since Frankfurt might still wimp out anyways, and I don't think you would count as having joined the League War (and thus miss out on the bonuses and whatnot), but if having a Protestant HRE is what you're after, it might be worth considering.

perhaps they were only the first one who converted or Prussia has converted to the reformed confession
Well, I was Lubeck at first that aspired to be Protestant Prussia, but since all three Protestant Centres were in the Celtic region and I didn't have religious idea, I fear I couldn't convert my entire land. Moreover, there was 0 religious centre in the HRE! So, I converted to the weaker Reformed religion hoping to spread heresy in the HRE. Frankfurt was force converted by me after I annexed Brandenburg (the original leader). Not converting earlier is definitely my greatest mistake in this game, and honestly EU4 should bar Ireland from having reformation centres coz it ruins the game and contradicts history, how can the Celtic Island of priests and Catholicism be radicalized by the German Luther?

So I am now a non-Protestant country outside of the HRE, and my game is fucking stuck since I can't expand to anywhere. Perhaps forming Prussia with other countries is not a good idea...
Btw I am the 5th GP, owning the German Baltic Coast+Denmark, >600 development

how can the Celtic Island of priests and Catholicism be radicalized by the German Luther?
I think that question nobody can answer. I have had so many stupid decisions....
So I am now a non-Protestant country outside of the HRE, and my game is fucking stuck since I can't expand to anywhere
My suggestion: I would quit that stupid game! Start a new game with Brandenburg expand slowly to the baltic see , make alliance with saxony and some other nations near to you, perhaps Poland. Save a little bit of money because you will get an important province "Neumark" from the teutonic order for 100fl. After that developing always slowly and expand to the baltic sea. Perhaps Lübeck has already conquered the neighbouring Mecklenburg, make a claim to them, thats a fat booty, beat them and vasslize them. After that you focuse on eastern prussian create a claim. But wait because Poland is also interested in. Up now all depends on your game style. The only advice I can give you for your first idea I suggest adm but anyway you could choose a military idea thats up to you. But when the reformation starts wait a little bit still some centre of reformation are near to you. Unhistorically you convert to protestantism(lutheran) what is important to become the leader of the league. In reallity the house of Hohenzollern converted to the reformod confession what you dont do at all because you cant become the leader of the protestantic and you must and will it. Meanwhile you have hopefully conquered Stolp, Danzig and Königsberg and some other provinces. After that and converting you become the king of Prussia. Perhaps you look here in english forum in the search function for some advices for your futher ideas and strategy.
Otherwise my posting would be too long and nobody likes to read long advices

I had this happen not long ago playing as Brandenburg. Anhalt ended up as the Protestant league leader when they formed and he put off declaring the war for around 10 years. Eventually I just declared the war on the Catholic league leader myself using the religious league cb. Turns out I didn't need to wait for the leader to make the move, it called in both entire leagues. Ended up better this way since I was war leader for our side and much stronger than the opm leader of my league.

Can the league leader change though? I know for a fact Anhalt ended up the leader when it formed but I guess its possible it got handed off to me at some point and I didn't notice.

Brandenburg is just too easy for me in SP, because no AI would beat me up for being Brandenburg

It is so stupid that I now want to dismantle the empire directly, could some devs explain how this stupid mechanism is supposed to work?? That's utterly unplayable!

lol, you effed up your game and then blame the devs for unplayable, who in their right mind would leave the empire and become a northern blob then not switch early if you want to become protestant emperor

C'mon man, at least they can specify who can be the leader! Otherwise do we players have to speed 5 in peace for 30 years to wait for the leadership?
Not being mad at you or anyone but reformation is important irl as well as in game, I just hope the devs to be more thoughtful about the details.

Doesn't attacking the league leader put him at war with the entire league?
you are right normally but sometimes an ally is just fighting another war or refuse to join.
Update: Roll back to a save 10 years ago, conquered Frankfurt without forming Prussia
if he can and had saved an older game. But after that what he wrote it is not a lucky game so better not to continue a frustrating game and try a new one.
In my last game as Prussia I was the leader of the protestantic league, I declare war to the weakened Austria which was the leader of the catholic league. Half of Austria including Vienna was conquered by the Ottomans and they were a big strong ally of Austria and the catholic league very foolish ! So EU games are often not very historically correct and many situations are created by hazard. Thats why every game is little bit different and somtime only silly then better quit. My opinion.
