Yeah just wondering.. It's 1942 and the US is at war with Germany, will this happen to me?

Funnily enough there's a nagging in my head to try and wipe them out now as they only have 6 carriers (they lost 5 to the German fleet  ) and I have 14 or so and then try and seek a white peace.

Is there any stratergy for beating the U.S as Japan without actually invading the country?

The usual event is Pearl Harbor, where Japan initiates the war with the US. This can happen from mid 1941 to mid 1942. This is a scripted event...and even thought you are Japan, you cant alter the script (well, unless the US no longer exists).

If you want to "beat" the US, you are going to have to invade them. Peace is only for 2 years. They will keep getting stronger even if you arent fighting them. Sooner or later you are going to have to take them out...sooner is usually better.

I doubt it, once the US and Japan go at it it´s all out war.

My best tip for you is to create a grinder consisting of the maximum air and naval power you can muster that you move towards pearl as steadily as you can.
I believe taking Australia and New Zeeland will make them more susceptible to a white peace, but note: white peace only. I never go for that since I want everything in the Pacific.

I managed once since I had superior ships and doctrines. However with my plan I have noticed it´s really all about A: winning one or two major battles, B: winning them early, C: keeping the momentum up constantly and seeking out their now lesser fleets and destroying them and D: taking all the islands as fast as possible.
Fail either one of these four points and it´s just a matter of time before you lose out to their gargantuan industrial base. Personally I always fail at point C and they can bolster their naval power in the Pacific.

Hmmmm, I was very fortunate that I only had to face a couple of carriers.

I've given the Allies a hiding in Asia and all the once mighty U.S fleet has is a couple of light cruisers, destroyers and transports.

I almost cried when
*SPOILER*

Yamamoto was assainated. Luckily I had almost all the carrier doctrines reaserched by him beforehand. The whole event is kinda hard to swallow considering I controlled all the Pacific Islands and the U.S had a tiny airforce.

If your crytography is high enough, that event will be skipped.

As Japan, I like to kick off the war with the Allies by DOW'ing England or the Netherlands first. This will give me time to occupy the East Indies and India. It will also give me time to "practice" on the British fleet and build up my ships' and commanders' experience. Doing this will also trigger the Oil Embargo with the US. Going this route seems more of a smooth transition to war with the US, rather than an abrupt attack on a good trading parter, so I think it's preferrable.

I think the best strategy for Japan is to seize Hawaii at the very outset of war. Hawaii is a vital defensive point due to it's location and the long distances of the sea zones around it. Station a strong contingenet of NAVs there to deal with any carrier groups. Have your own carriers waiting in a sea zone behind this screen to mop up what is left of the American fleet after the NAVs have their way with them. Do this with the Solomons as well, as the US seems to like to send it's ships through both of these locations.

Damn I had full cytrography..

I decleared war about 1943 so I never had those events..

Is invading the U.S difficult? Should one try and conquer the whole, or just try and capture the West Coast? Is this impossible by 1943?

The event requires that the US have a minimum decryption advantage, but it's over ANYONE in Japan's alliance, not just Japan. So even for example Siam would have to have all the encrypt techs researched, which doesn't usually happen, so the net effect is cryptology doesn't matter.

Ya, but if you really want to have a large empire, you need to attack the allies, which means your base in the USA will be under attack by canada
