As Hungary, got PU over Austria. Confused.

It's been a while since I played Hungary last time, but it seems so weird on current play.

Upon the death of regent Hunyadi, Ladislaus Postumus von Habsburg became a new king, and after some time, I found he happen to be a king of both of Hungary and Austria. But this time, Hungary is senior and Austria being junior member of PU. IIRC, opposite being usual.

I know this is more than ideal situation for Hungary, as I can inherit Austria later. But still, it feels weird and considering to restart. Is this bug?

DON'T RESTART.

There is nothing wrong with your game this is WAD. You and Austria have the same dynasty, so what must have happened is their ruler died with no heir and you inherited the PU. Most PUs have to be won by force, you pretty much won the lottery.

If you are playing ironman, you could achieve "Take that, Von Habsburgs!" You have to have all of Austria as cores.

I’ve seen AI Hungary get a PU over Castille around 1460 in one Ironman.

But Ladislaus was Duke of Austria by right of inheritance.

Historically his realm split when he died in 1457 at the age 17, and the Duchy of Austria went to Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor, while Hungary elected Janos Hunyadi's second son Matthias. There's actually an event (if you didn't get the PU) that kills Ladislaus and put Matthias on the throne.

He was also elected King of Bohemia, but after his death the throne passed to the regent of Bohemia, Jiri z Podebrad (that event-spawned ruler in Bohemia).

The situation in 1444 was far more complicated than the game setup suggests, if you look at later start dates in EU4, they have Frederick's Styria as the Emperor. So this is not a historically unplausible development.

I mean heck, if Ladislaus hadnt died HE WOULD have been King of Hungary and Duke of Austria (and king of Bohemia by right), just not getting the Styrian lands that belonged to his Emperor uncle. Fredrick was only regent in Austria till Ladislaus died. If anything, you compensated for a historical anomaly!

This is a good thing, it is rather odd to keep the Habsburg prince over the Hunyadi's though.

That's just a regular PU that arose out of normal game-mechanics. You shared the same Dynasty and likely had an RM. Austria's ruler died without a designated heir and so you get the PU.

It's not historical, but then this is a game and so by its nature tends towards alternate histories. It seems like it's a good opportunity for an interesting alternate history scenario where Hungary-Austria rises to prominence in place of Austria-Hungary.

You can't get the Matyas Hunyadi event in OP's situation. Austria can't be a subject and Hungary can't be in a PU (senior or junior) for the event to fire.

why? personal union means both country ruled by same person. in this case habsburg said "allright guys we decided to rule this new kingdom from hungary ... after all kingdom of hungary is better title than duchy of austria "

I'm assuming he got it beforehand, but chose to stay with the Habsburgs, rather than keeping the Hunyadi's.

something horrible happened to the austrian king, its a historic set of events, usually the hungarians choose to crown the son of hunyadi otherwise they form personal union with austria as their overlord
