I can say I am a huge Arumba fan, but this achievement attempt he is doing is amazing. The first 6-7 videos are him taking massive debt just to lose out against The Ottomans. Must recommend. If he does this I will start a new faith for Arumba, our lord and savior, I swear it.

I will definitely watch. I did the Jerusalem achievo with Knights back in 1.11 I think. Was a bit tedious as I had to restart several times before I could get Venice to cooperate and actually do some damage against the Ottos with their galleys but eventually I managed. My strat was to no-CB Byzantines, vassalize them, plus take the Serbian gold mine (they used to always ally). Then just try to frantically build enough galleys to hold the straits when the Ottos attack you. The longer ship-building times seem like they would present a challenge now.

It was doable in 1.12 but not in 1.13.

I started the knights challenge as well. It's actually mot that hard. You first alky Poland. Then you ally Venice and wait for ottomans to deck you.

Honestly I think Cyprus is harder.

I tried several time, the best I got was the entirety of Byzantium, most of Serbia, some provinces in southern Italy and footholds in the Black Sea. Then I got betrayed by Venice and attacked by Ottomans and probably by Austria as well for good measure and everything was over.

The thing is taking Cyprus will most likely make Venice super-hostile, but if you don't take Cyprus I don't get how you're supposed to get to Jerusalem realistically.

how, cyprus is eastern and venice gets a mission to annex you.

I believe Austria or france were easily achievable alliances early... maybe it was aragon, I don't remember. I did have to do one restart where venice crushed me early but the royal marriages were key to easy alliances. Also cyprus is just a richer province.

Take ragusa and expand into the balkans, have your diplomats improve relations and drag the war out to make sure you don't get coalitioned. Wait on serbia or bosnia to attack each other and siege down bosnia when serbia destroys their army and work from their. Don't touch cyprus as the knights, its tempting but you're better off attacking turkish minors. And just hope the ottos don't decide to push you out of rhodes till you have alliances and a foothold. You can also get lucky and drag venice into a no cb war on the maluuks but that was not a consistent option.

Most annoying thing I found about this achievement is that at some point you cannot become jerusalem and the mission does not tell you that some level of reform desire removes the option, very annoying!

It used to be that after Reformation you couldn't form Kingdom, but now it is changed to allow before 1650.

The Ottomans will eventually attack the Mamlukes, and then you just join the party :)

In addition to that, it can be helpful to consider that snatching Byzantium from the Ottomans is actually counter-productive because it will delay the Ottomans' attack on the Mamluks while exposing yourself to their aggression. So if your goal is simply to form the Kingdom of Jerusalem and not to remove Kebab, it is best to just bide your time and opportunistically wait for the opportunity to jump the Mamluks.

Cyprus is for wussies. The Knights are literally a Crusader order leftover from the old days, the Cypriots are a mere kingdom!

On a side thought, would it now be possible to form Jerusalem, get to Semien, and be converted to Judaism?

Ethiopia probably won't wait long to convert Semien. You might have to take it first.

IIRC the Kingdom Cyprus is the last remnant of the old Kingdom of Jerusalem and it's still ruled by the KoJ royal family in 1444, they are the most obvious choice to go with from a role playing point of view.

IIRC the Kingdom Cyprus is the last remnant of the old Kingdom of Jerusalem and it's still ruled by the KoJ royal family in 1444, they are the most obvious choice to go with from a role playing point of view.

Real roleplayers will release and play as Champagne to form it.
