Given the fact that tube artillery was first used in Europe around 1350 AD, I assume that until then "tension" artillery will be used in CK sieges. Altough, to be completely honest, the prospect of having to fling - using onagers, ballistas and trebuchets - massive rocks into or over walls is not that appealing. :)

Since combat won't be tactical, you won't have to.

Personally, I would immensely enjoy a Defender of the Crown style siege which lets you choose between various kinds of ammo including dead people. :D

Also, since most siege weaponry was constructed on site, you probably won't see an "artillery" unit type either unless they've opted to go with an engineers unit type.

I think its a long time before any of the 'tube' weapons could match the Trebuchet. Maybe the big old cannons used by the turks in 1453.

Agreed. They must have some kind of representation for siege technology. An engineer unit would be nice, but I'm guessing that it won't be the case.

Tangent: You are aware, I hope, that there's a spruced up version of DotC released last year for the PC and the Xbox? Decent gameplay and the mini-missions like raiding castles and capturing the taxcollector are pretty amusing, but unfortunately it doesn't quite have the same feeling as the original.

Yeah, it's propably going to be a bit more abstracted than that. I'd guess that sieges will be mainly affected by your techs and whatever related traits your commander might possess. Aside form the size of your army and the position of the fort, of course. ;)

If you check out the tech list in this screenshot, you'll see an advance named "siege equipment". I'll hazard a guess that there's one for each of the five overall tech levels, representing access to increasingly advanced equipment.

I heard about it, but I forgot, since IIRC most reviews thought it more or less sucked. I'm not sure if I want to wreck my old illusions...how would you rate it on a scale of 1-10?

Yep, there was greek fire, boulders and a third alternative, the name of which escapes me at the moment... it was probably what was referred to as dead people earlier...

Don't forget that you can fling disappointing commanders on those as well - now thinking of that makes it more fun, no? :D

Which will be in some sense cool, not to get cannons itself, but the fact that there should be future technology that can't almost never be reached. Meaning, you can't max out in techs :)

Which makes me wonder, what will the EU2 converter make of your techs, when translating them into EU2s absract version of technology?

Good question. We're probably talking land techs 1-5 here anyway, so extra advances won't be critical.

The tech tree looks much more specific than EU2, though it didn't look like there were branches and dependencies as in HoI. It'll be nice to see the whole thing.

In one screenshot of the Hungary AAR (one of *just* two of those AARs) there is a *catapult* in one blue province. Check it out!

Edited: By the way, i think that catapults are less attractive than cannons, but its historically correct. Perhaps you can develope some tech to get cannons.
