How about this word, you probably never heard of it: LEARNING.

If you can't outsmart paradox combat AI then I feel sorry for you, also the current difficulty settings are fine for LEARNING. How is making the AI even more retarded going to teach you anything? Playing multiplayer against somebody who is severely handicapped won't teach you how to play against somebody who isn't.

Action games usually change AI agressiveness, which in an action game means difficult. That's not the case on strategy games (as EU3 attests)

The only exceptions I know of are those chess AIs, which doesn't really applies here, as it predicts every move on a narrower universe.

In EU3 not every AI had the option to colonize when possible. It was like seeing Crimea occuppying most of Golden Horde but not colonizing ever once. My point of adjusting the AI concerns such things.

That's actually is a very interesting idea. That the kind of skills a monarch have could affect the AI behavior sounds very intriguing.

It would be more interesting if it applied to players too. But if I'm controlling France I don't want to lower my IQ whenever I have a bad monarch.

CK2 already does this, traits will make the AI act differently on a few scales (rational vs. irrational, zealous vs. irreligious, forgiving vs. unforgiving). For gameplay's sake though I hope that EU4's AI acts more 'gamey' than CK2's (i.e. it will try to act rationally and strengthen itself even with a poor ruler)

I assume they work like EU3 and don't actually make the AI 'smarter' but just makes it get static bonuses or penalties?

Hmmm, Id like o know what actually changes with each difficulty setting... I kinda hate difficulty settings in grand strategy games. Technically all I want from the AI is to do its best and react to the situation as close as a human would as possible. Having the ai fail to react because its on easy is silly, giving the AI modifiers and perks bcause its hard difficulty is just cheating. The optimal setting should always be having the AI and the player im equal footing, and the difficulty is decided by the situation the player is in.

Wiz, any examples you could give on how the AI can act different in different difficulty settings?

If the AI is different on different difficulty settings, will there also be modifiers to the player and AI on different difficulties? Or is this like the aggressive/passive settings from EU3?

I wouldn't be suprised if hard difficulty means an aggressive AI that does everything it can to crush the player. Nations will gather just to punch the player in the face.

I wouldn't be suprised if hard difficulty means an aggressive AI that does everything it can to crush the player. Nations will gather just to punch the player in the face.
I hope you the smartest AI (if you ignore 'killing the player = smart') can be used without any other bonuses or high aggression stuff.
