One thing I really enjoyed in HOI3 was the army organization.

So you broke down the HQs into Theatre, Army Group, Army, Corps and Divisions.

Is that possible in HOI4?

I understand that you have fronts in which you assign all the divisions you want to that front. However, I did enjoy as part of HOI3 building up your Corps, Army, Army Groups etc and manoeuvring those together. To me it was just an organization thing as it allowed me to keep track of larger and larger formations and know where each was headed and what each consisted of and swapping divisions around, all based on which Corps, Army or Army Group they belonged to.

Is that something that's still possible with HOI4? Like you can still organise your divisions into corps, then army then army groups etc and you can assign them to the front you want. Then the AI would keep them grouped together on the front. So lets say the German invasion of Russia. Army Group North, Centre and South. That way when your units are engaged in battle but you want to make slight changes you can pull certain organisations larger than a division, rather than selecting individual divisions.

Could also be the same for reinforcing, if you want to make a push in a certain sector of your front line you could reinforce it with extra units.

I understand you can just break them up into different front lines but that requires more generals, plus from my understanding by keeping them all in the same frontline it'll allow the AI to better coordinate along the entire front rather than separate frontlines acting individually without giving each other mutual support.

Yes and no, mostly no. The army group is supposed to represent every part of the army: Corps, Divisions, ect. With the current way army organization is done, you can only manage on the division size. You could create smaller and larger division to simulate corps and brigades. Hope this help

Short answer NO.

There is no more a complete order of battle.

Now you have generals that can command a limited number of divisions (was 12 initially, IIRC now is 24). They have troops related (panzer, commandos) or terrain related (mountain, desert) traits bonuses. Or naval invader or winter specialist traits.

Or you have Field Marshals that have no command limit. They have traits related to offensive/defensive, planning, morale, reinforcement chance.

If I'm not mistaken, every general has a division limit of 24 (except Field Marshals who have unlimited) which is equivalent to a full HOI3 army, so there is only divisional and army level commands. Personally I would prefer a full OOB too, but if I had to choose one command level, army would probably be it.

I hope for an OOB to be included in an expansion at some point. I spent many hours getting my HOI 3 german OOB fixed before the invasion of Poland.

That's the word I was looking for OOB.

Even if it doesn't present anything tactically I hope they bring back OOB as for me personally when I play as I stated in my original post I enjoy the organisation of an OOB and during offensives and defensives.

As stated before, and just reiterating. If I was conducting a major offensive and plans changed on the battlefield. I'd like to be able to group specific units up. That was what was great about OOB. So I could have a corps dedicated to break through, one dedicated to exploitation and one to line infantry. As the battle progressed in my favour I could reallocate the corps as needed in a hurry. A bit more micro managing on my part but I felt that I could accomplish a lot more in an offensive or defensive with less units as I was able to better manage their roles by grouping them into corps and manoeuvre them to where they were needed.

However I do understand that the division building mechanics are different now with divisions being pretty similiar across the board, but it would still be convenient to be able to group divisions according to what I intend to use them for.

As some people complained about having to continually move the OOB, they may simply put it off-map to solve this problem.

This was a continuing problem during world war 2 though and that's what made it fun, well I enjoyed it to some extent. Reorganising my OOB after a major offensive. Moving brigades around and divisions around to reinforce where it needed as I prepared for the next offensive. Utilizing what limited resources I had (divisions in this case) in order to achieve my intended goals.

This occured all the way down to the company level during world war 2 with companies taking heavy losses and being merged with another or battalions having to merge with other battalions.

Its something that I'd hope would continue to be replicated in HOI4.

I disagree, it will be more easy to make specialized divisions as you can make a diversity of templates and chose different battalions and brigades + support companies. Tough you will need some army experience to unlock all the possibilities.

I am of the understanding yes you can create diverse divisions but is there a set back? I noticed during the live streams it wasn't done much and the hosts stuck predominantly to generic divisions and just made slight modifications as they unlocked new technology.

If the case is it is still easy to make specialised divisions with a multitude of templates then it stands to reason even more that they should bring back OOB.

A short stream where you play quickly at high speed is not the best context to micromanage your divisions, that's why they sticked to generic division templates.

Fair call. I am very excited about specialising divisions in the game. One thing I must say I'm very impressed with is the design template and how you can design your divisions down to brigade level. Choosing the brigade composition of types of battalions and types of brigades within the division.

That and the division support companies/battalions definitely add a ton of variety to division design!

I'm looking forward to playing the British with their multiple fronts and designing divisions to engage on the different fronts.

Of course, as I've already said OOB would just top this all off ;)
