Let people chose and, prepare in peace, how they want certain units in certain armies to act within the battle. Maybe have some infantry stay back or try not to bring cannons to front row and have infantry try their best to keep in the front. Also when there are penalties to combat width, you being able to say I mainly want all Infantry in front and two cavalry on the side, with the rest in the back waiting to replace the front line ones. Also with a mercenaries thread to make the mercs always start in the center.
I would also like it if every time there is a fire and shock phase of a battle, that there would be a day's break in combat so armies can reform and restructure, and be a bit of a cease fire between the armies. Either that or the army that had weaker moral would retreat a little and reform a bit and continue on with the battle. I am proposing here that it would be a new step in battle called regroup where technically the one army with lower moral retreats a little and continues the battle the next day.
This would make planning out your armies a bit a part of the game in peace time and be a bit of an improvement to the game. For the newer players, they would not need to know of this and let regular AI take control. It would be similar to how some of the other paradox games have a choice of if you want it automated or not. It still would not get rid of the randomization but it will also make it so that the player has more decision with armies other than controlling what units are in it. I really would like to see this in a new DLC for people who would like to be able to set some rules for armies on how they behave in combat and when starting combat.
