Are you influenced by other forum members?

We are two students who are investigating in what way forum members are influenced by one another. For you who answered yes to the poll question, we would really appreciate if you could take the time to share your experiences and opinions on the following questions:

1. What is required by another forum member in order for you to listen to his or her opinion? E.g. do they possess certain characteristics? Do they write in a certain way? Do they have a certain type of user profile? Or are they just well known at the forum?

2. Do you believe that some forum members are more influential than others? If yes, what makes them more influential?

3. What type of threads appeal to you?

We are really interested in your opinions and are looking forward to a thrilling discussion

Therefor we would appreciate as detailed accounts as possible, for example posts by specific members, games, threads, tips, grammer, knowledge and so forth. Are you looking for influence by one particular forum member, or the entire forum as a collective? And are you interested in just being influenced in favour of buying a Paradox game, or also against buying a Paradox game?

2) In general or for me specifically? No idea, some maturity is needed. But general impression is the most important. Of course way back a post by Carolus Rex convinced me to pre-order victoria, so standards are definitely varying.

I have to frame that post, it is the first time I ever heard some one say C-rex influenced them to do anything good.

Paradox staff. Kallocain in particular with her attitude and community activity has made me want to buy PI games even more. It might be that without seeing her and dev teams on forums I would have skipped HOI3 and SF.

Aw, thanks! I'll be sure to mention this the next time I negotiate for salary.

The question is incomplete. I miss the option if other forum members prevent that I buy a game. This is far more often the case than the other way round, with the result that I delay the purchase till a patch (or addon) fixes the issues or I completely abandon the idea of playing a game.

That part is missing because that is not what they are investigating. To find out what restrictions you are going to work from is an important part of writing a paper.
