For those that have the game, are you happy with the changes that the 1.2 patch has brought today? I've been on the fence about Sengoku, ever since its release, and I don't know whether to pick it up now, or not.

Does the patch help the game to realize more of its potential? Does the patch bring the game up to the expectations you've had? For every person that has said that the game is worthwhile, another has said it's a disappointment.

I've played the demo, yes, and I love stuff like this. But I also shouldn't spend the money frivolously.

Would you recommend the game now, or should I continue to wait?

Thank you.

This patch is just what the doctored ordered. The only thing (and I mean the only thing) I disliked about 1.01 was the several large starting clans and the feel that it was just a rush to conquer. Now with the new start date option it feels even more like a grand chess match! Buy it at once!!

I'd say this game got a whole lot better with the 1.2 patch. Sadly, I haven't been able to play it because Impulse is... Let's just say, unimpressive at this time and won't let me patch to 1.2. I'd have to say that I was happy with 1.01 overall. Sure there were some things that bugged me, but the experience was enjoyable each time I played the game. For an example of what I mean, I played as the Date clan 3 times in a row, started off the exact same each time, but the things the clans around did were different each time. One scenario ended with me getting rofl-stomped by a big faction, one ended with me losing in the final battle for supremacy of Japan(Other faction had like, 48%, I had around 35% and got a plot going to fight it out with the big guy, but we lost after, like, 10 years of battling nonstop, so it was VERY fun), and then in the final scenario, I got most of eastern Japan(Northern) before being assaulted by 4 or 5 smaller clans and having to basically lose most of my land, submit to someone else, and help them for the next 10 or so years before betraying them to join a bigger clan and eventually helping that clan become Shogun.

For the tl;dr people, the game has a lot of replay value, a lot of things can happen, really good buy if you enjoy this time period and it's only going to get better if Paradox keeps the patches as awesome as this.(Even though I haven't been able to play it yet! [I hate Impulse now.])

Way, way, way better. And court members actually get married by themselves.

As a feature request for 1.03 I wish there was a plot to organize defence pacts between neighbors against a bigger threat.

The only thing bothering me is the AI constantly raising and disbanding its Levies when its in numeral disadvantage, rather than make a stand, but it is a rather minor problem.

I'm loving it. A lot of the little changes (marriage notifications, back buttons, grant button) make the game more playable. You spend less time in the menus double checking things 'just in case' so you spend more time with the game clock running thus more time with cool backstabbing and scheming and invading (or getting invaded!) going on.

The game is not on the complexity level of EU3 or HOI3, and the patch certainly didn't change that and hopefully they never do. The best way I've seen it described is a knife fight in a fish bowl.

Go for it if you want more doing and less planning. You still have to think a few years ahead, you still have to be mindful of your standing in relation to your neighbors, and you still have to be ever vigilant for the AI deciding it has had enough of you getting big and teaming up on you. You do not have to worry about army/unit composition or upgrades, you do not have to worry about building or deep tech trees and prerequisites. Very much Paradox style without the (in?)famous Paradox complexity. Of the handful of Paradox games I've played, this one is the only one that I spend most of the in game time un-paused and running.

There's a bug that makes you lose honor when you expose a plot, instead of the plotter. That's pretty serious in a game like this, so better wait for a quick fix for it. Otherwise the patch is exactly what was needed.

The hyper-indecisive AI armies can be annoying, too. The ones that keep trying to march to an enemy occupied province, and stopping when outnumbered, repeatedly. Although that can be worked around, it tends to lock up some of the AI's armies in a loop and they essentially don't use them anywhere else.

Hopefully there's a hotfix for these couple issues soon. Or a beta update containing them.

The game is still playable even though it's not WAD. Those two bad spots are the only biggies I've noticed.

Yes, the patch does help the game to realize more of its potential.

For the rest, impossible to say as it will take half a dozen games to fully apprehend the changes.

The general direction is that it gives more weight to many decisions involved in the game.

I agree. Many new events and vassals asking for titles gives a complete new feeling of how to lead your clan, for me at least.
But there are so much more additions, like the impassable mountains or new starting dates that complete the whole experience piece by piece.

The game has gone in the right direction with the focus on characters and events, the new start date is fun to play and the new mechanics require a more strategic and politic approach to survive. The only downside are the number of bugs that came with the patch, the most vital ones being plot and army bug. When they're fixed the game will become much better than it was at 1.01c.

And I think the stat modifiers of historical figures are way too high, there are some (like Oda) with 20 diplomacy or martial.. The stats are the same as the 1551 mod that came prior to the patch, but I personally think the uberstats shouldve been nerfed. Makes it impossible (or too expensive) to declare war on certain clans because of the relationship bonus (high diplomacy).

Oh and the AI almost never accepts "exchanging hostages" but offers them at will, even if they refused the player's offer 1 month ago. Exchanging hostages should be made easier like plots were done in this patch.

Just thought I should point these out, I'm happy with the game otherwise.

i'm a bit confused regarding the request title event.

i had two vassals asking for kokujin titles, i told them i willl give them one, so i give the first one a title, the second one got mad for some reason even though i was about to give him one, and even when i did give him, he was still mad :/

why's that? is that beause i gave the other one before him? or is there a specific timeline for that?

In the event you're promising to give them the next kokujin title available. So they both expect to be the first one to be given new territory now.

The way I see it is that before the 1.2 patch, Sengoku was a nicely polished katana, and now it is a magical blade that will cause women to have sex with you, no seriously it will.

p.s wouldn't suggest going around with a sword trying to get women to have sex with you, my uncle is in jail for that.

Yes I am quite happy. In my current game I've seen the Uesugi get ganged up by 5/6 clans at the same time and a civil war at the same time. The pretender ended up winning the civil war and the uesugi retained alot of power.

Some years later a new plot was formed. More clans ganged up on them and the nagao revolted! I'm not sure how they'll be able to survive...

Meanwhile, my Oda clan is number 3 in size but after seeing the Yamana and Kono ganging up on Ouchi which got relegated to number 3 and peaced out I'm actually affraid to do my next move. The Toki are big and by going after them I open up myself to the Ouchi who absorbed the Isshiki. The Rokkaku are small but that would give me even more neighbours and possibly make me number one. And it seems having lots of neighbours and being number one isn't that good :p

I think I'll take some Uesugi scraps after the war progresses and they become more exhausted :)

So yes, having alot of fun :)

Hello ive started again playing my old pals the Osumi clan. At least this time im not having any trouble with my heirs disappearing each time i save and reload the game. Thanks for doing that! But on the other side of the coin within a fews years while building up my state all hell seems to be let loose in the southern peninsular with everyone tearing into each other. And to make things worse my Daimyo master has started a civil war against his liege which has caught me on the hop this time. It all looks great fun but its left me at a lost what to do, but go along with my Daimyo for the moment. The AI or the clan leader as much as he seems to out number us seems rather hesitant to use his combine forces to crush us. Mine you he does have another war to cope with as well. Well keep up the good work in improving this game thanks.
