Are you disappointed?

If you are unhappy with the way the game has turned out based on the demo experience, youtube gameplay footage, and over-expectations due to awesome dev diaries then I can only tell you to wait for the following:

- Wait for at least 3 mega patches*

I am pretty sure the game will have many glitches and bugs on release, strange things will happen; sometimes funny and other times they will force you to quit the game and vent on the forum. So if you want better gameplay experience, wait a few months. Sooner than later a patch will be released that not only fixes the problems, but may introduce new features.

- Wait for DLC/Expansion

PI are known for their expansions packs which transform a game as if you were playing a whole new game, EU4 is a big title so I assume there will be plenty of DLCs in the future.

- Mods

Eventually everyone will find their favorite mod, and eventually nobody will play the vanilla game.

If there is ONE thing you could change about EU4, What would it be?

Why would I be disappointed by minor little quips? Worse things I see is the speed of conversion of culture, and it not being worth the price, and spam claims. Everything that can simply be fixed with a patch.

People played 25 years, acting like the sky is falling. Well I'm thankfully impressed with the demo, and cannot wait until release. Is it perfect? No, could use some balancing, but thats EVERY game usually that comes out.

Pointless to try and tell people otherwise, they're sad a feature didn't get put in that "they" wanted. Nothing you can say or do on a forum can convince them. Whiners gonna whine.

Most people seem to be quite impressed with the demo, based on what I've seen on the boards. The one major complaint seem to be regarding cultural/religious conversion which will probably be made a bit harder in an early patch - if not, then surely we will see a balance mod out within a month or so which will fix that. There have of course been complaints about the Monarch Points-system, which doesn't surprise me since it's a new and rather controversial system considering how technology has worked in every earlier EU-title, but honestly we can't really say that much about it's effects on balance since we've only played for 28 years. Other than this the reception seem to be almost wholly positive and the demo plays really smoothly in my opinion. Compared to my first few plays of EU3 I am greatly impressed (I couldn't stomach EU3 until the release of In Nomine, although I don't recall my complaints from back then) and the trade-system, the new interface (although a bit daunting initially - so much information everywhere) and the MP-system are all just lovely. The fact that we can raise relations without showering potential foes with money is about bloody time, and the enforce peace option will most likely prove nice when you established an empire and just want to maintain the status quo. Also seems nice for multiplayer.

Colonization is my only main disappointment, and I would like to see something more interesting done with it, although I haven't put much thought into how it could be reworked. A personal wish of mine was also to see a new military maintenance system with administrating supply hubs in friendly/occupied territory and then either having to choose to maintain open supply routes to your army/live of the land with a generally higher rate of attrition. This I feel would make strategic maneuvering more interesting and defending against stronger foes less of a wait-and watch-them-wither-game. However it would also mean rather immense micro-managing during greater wars on multiple theaters. Not an issue in single-player perhaps, but definitely in multiplayer. Would also be interesting if you could drain the land of resources (essentially providing a 'looted'-modyfier) which would make for some of the positioning-warfare seen during the 30-years War.

Dissapointed? Yes, but with the forums. I never thought that there were so many trolls and whiners here. Yes, there are ISSUES, but all of them are understandable and if they don't change there will be no problem at all (i.e., better colonization, we all want a perfect game but that can't be done) - and about the new features, I love them all, and even if I disliked them I would need to play the game before reviewing those systems (unlike our dear forumites seem to do reviewing a DEMO).

I love the new features, and expect to stay thinking the same after playing the game for +100h.

All kidding aside, there will always be a vocal minority of players who feel the need to piss on peoples parades. Angry about what didn't get put into their personal "dream" project of idea's and ideals. But yeah, it can get a bit disheartening to read on here at times. But like anything, every community has its good and bad.

I'm in the happy, and hoping for some issues to be balanced. Does it make me not want to purchase the game? No way in hell! Funny thing is, I bet 90% of people who bitch and moan about how terrible it is, will suddenly get that pre-order or "ordered" icon next to their names in a few days. Irony at its best.

I`m not really disappointed. Mostly due to the fact that I`m not a hormone-driven teenager anymore who does all crazy over a computer game . And as such I can (or at least I believe so) look at things with much more perspective. I know that the game is never as good as the marketing campaign makes it to be, nor is it as bad as it seems during the first serious session.
