Hi guys

Will there be snipers in the game?

I know HoIIV deals with grand strategic divisional level warfare, however, even so i believe snipers might be in the game.

In real life snipers and sharpshooters played relevant roles in important batlles, such as stalingrad.

If the role of snipers was relevant enough to be considered in such an important battle, maybe they had some divisional-level value

In game terms, I believe that we could have snipers brigade, that would deal large org damage against soft targets.

Individual kills wouldnt be enough to hurt a division strengh, but killing key targets would low moral and havoc some chaos, damaging the Org.

Wat do u guys think?

Snipers would probably just be considered part of the normal infantry brigades, so I don't think they need special representation as an independent support battalion or anything. I remember in HoI3/BICE there was a battle tactic called snipers though.

On a game of this scale, I'm not sure how they'd be implemented, except maybe something that would be incorporated like an 'Ace' pilot which gives the unit he's assigned to some extremely small bonus to soft attack?

I believe a lot of the things that they would get the bonuses for (like in Stalingrad), are already built into the defensive bonus/attack malus which occurs in urban areas, etc.

Well maybe as modifier to brigands as is radio, field hospitall, artilery. But would be cool to have sniper aces like pilots one. And when we are talking about it why not tank aces too?

I can see defensive doctrines emphasising, among other things, snipers. But snipers as units, in a game featuring millions and millions of soldiers, no.

I can see this implemented as random events, though. EU IV and HOI 3 has events like that, like "one of our men has achieved notoriety, what do we do", and some sort of bonus and possibly a choice as to what to do with them. For snipers/tank aces/what have you, you could have a choice to use them in propaganda campaigns, which might cost some resources, but yield a small morale boost or something. "Legends" and myths like the three biplanes Faith, Hope, and Charity defending Malta, the Soviet sniper Vasily Zaytsev, or certain successful commando teams could develop, but I don't think I want such appearances to be too regular.

But again, in a game with tens of millions of soldiers, a single sniper, no matter how skilled, is a drop in the ocean, especially if they weren't high-ranking officers like Rommel, "Monty" or MacArthur.

i think since the air force has the chance to "spawn" an ace, tje army should have a chance to make a "elite sniper" war hero, like Simo Hayha or Matthaus Hetzenauer would be good (it might even be there already but i don't know)

If this aspect is of real interest to you, I think you should invest in reading the Sharpe novels by Bernard Cornwell.

The closest thing to snipers being implemented that I could see being feasible would be a doctrine that increases the reliance on snipers and other specialty troops, giving a small situational bonus in urban combat or something. The snipers would never be represented on the map, since they'd be just one more aspect of an infantry brigade, a handful of specialists among thousands of other soldiers, including plenty of other specialists who are not represented as a distinct formation either.

I think that the aces feature could be re-purposed well here, though I don't think it should be specifically for snipers or tank aces. It would be nice if there was a "war hero" bonus that worked the same as an ace, you can keep him in combat and risk his death or you can use him to boost national unity. I guess the main problem with this is that pilots and soldiers are handled quite differently?

Air forces track individual planes as single units, whereas divisions can contain tens of thousands of men. How much of a stats boost should a 30 000 man division receive from having a single particularly good sniper, or tank commander, or tank hunter?

I think that bonus should be only for one brigand and mainly give you national unity

I agree, but on the other hand having a war hero fighting in a division might give the division a morale boost. But yes it should definitely be small and keeping them away from fighting should offer a similar degree of benefit, perhaps more so to represent that the propaganda abilities of the war hero are greater when properly targeted/channeled at home.
