random "player is no longer in sync" have been plaguing the game for years, especially on cross-platform play. and also ocassionally, some patches and questionable "delete some files" remedies have been proposed, the issue has never been actually fixed.

is this issue still being actively investigated?

would using Wine instead of the native versions of the game help alleviate the issue?

Maybe this belongs in the MP forum, but I guess that sub is pretty much a ghost town.

From the experience of the group I play with, it was steadily improved up until the last patch to the point where they barely happened - any OOS was usually a generic one instead of caused by cross-platform issues. Then with the Reaper update they were suddenly insane to the point where the game was unplayable cross-platform. We couldn't get 6 months in-game with an OOS.

My guess is that they are somehow related to the optimisations that dramatically improved the speed of the game in that patch.

I run a windows partition specifically for games now, I thoroughly recommend this if you have the disk space to spare - it's insanely easy on Mac with bootcamp, less so on linux. I played a game a few weeks ago where we got 50 years in without an OOS.

Cross-platform desyncs are primarily caused by differences in the interpretation of the standard of c plus plus and thus very hard to pinpoint (and easily broken again), we are of course doing everything to fix this in all of our games O;) just let the bug reports flow and we will fix the issues as fast as we can

Judging from two EU4 threads about the issue ([1], [2]) I'd think so.
i seem to have issues with painfully long loading when using wine, but that's probably another issue for another thread.

alright, where do i push them and where may i find logs that may help you with pinpointing the issue?

We found one strange cause in my game group. It was the host not having Horse lords while other players had. We still face both out of sync and CTD for joining players but in much less numbers after joining players deactivates horse lords DLC.

From my understanding all DLCs are running on the same code base and almost the same configuration, which makes this unlikely to be the real problem and as we still face problems strengthens that but still the difference in numbers of problems tells there is something.

horselords are the only major dlc that differs for us so that is the only one we have tried unticking. Our usual host have all major dlcs except HL and Reapers Due. I have all but Reapers Due. Third player have vanilla, I think(or maybe the "complete" version with all major Pre WoL - not sure) and he rarely faces problem.

This can be worth a try to see if anything is improved?

Could be a faulty check somewhere concerning the horselord dlc that make some event chain or mechanic that should be disabled trigger on the clients. Does all clients that have horselord dlc active go OOS at the same time?

Considering only 1(me) out of three players in our game team have horselords I can't tell but would be good if another team with multiple HL joiners could try it.
It´s almost always me causing the OOS and I have more CTD then the others. We see a clear difference when I have HL unticked.

Yes that is probably more for the wine team than us at pds tbh. But of course we are very much willing to provide any additional information and/or help we can in that matter. Just make sure to share the external bug report to us as well.
Personally, I really want you guys to stop using wine and report the *nix bugs instead (incl mp if our game said cross-platform)

alright, where do i push them and where may i find logs that may help you with pinpointing the issue?
To the "bugs" subforum here at ck2 (https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?forums/crusader-kings-ii-bug-reports.680)
If you have steps to reproduce, this supersedes almost everything O;)
If you have or not, we will require at least this info:
* Preferable the host should run with the launch option/command line flag "-randomlog"
* You should pause, host and clients that went OOS should submit your logs and savegame to us

Create a new bug report and/or send me the link to that or the existing one (since this might not be a cross platform issue at all).
best regards

Does Steam (let alone CK2) even run properly on Wine? With all the issues I've had with Software that wants to update from inside the Wine directory I would have thought MP would be a nightmare.

Side note, Gustav why don't you have an "official" PDS account? At first I thought you were pretending to be an employee or something XD

wine is awesome, i use it for swtor every day. do not replace this with native posix/linux support, you should be able to run ck2/eu4/hoi4/stellaris without steam (and drm) if you wish.
