Are there any plans to increase the # of provinces?

Extra provinces doesn't make the ai stupid. Its the poor or lack of coding inside the ai files and proper switching of ai files. The default paradox files included in aod.

I think the ai files in use now by aod are the 1.2 armegeddon ones without any other modification. I may be wrong. : /

Honestly, I don't know. But now I can look more closely into these files so I might assess your apprehension. But I'd expect that the devs have mostly concentrated on ai hard-coding.

Hundreds of missing airfields, navalbases, rivers, incorrect weather patterns and terrain inside the default inc and province files are also partially to blame for bad ai.

BTW, very nice job so far on this new map. Hope it becomes a new aod standard.

That is my hope, too. :)

Take a look inside the ai files of mods such as TRP and see how they have coded the ai to attack certain provinces in order and ignore others for example. Also the order of things inside the ai files plays another big role.

Hard coding inside the exe is currently being down by the dev team to my understanding which will help as well. But the inside work on the ai files is up to mod teams to fix.

A totally redone air/naval ai is needed for the ai files themselves.

The weather system is under-developed and needs some love.

Good to know, thanks. I had already TRP on my wishlist because it's renown for its good ai. But I haven't expected that the simple order of things inside of an ai file would make a difference.

Yes, sadly there is atm noone who wants to try a real ai mod. We have now the task to adapt all ai files to the new map. While doing this we might learn enough about the ai instructions, commands and triggers that we might even try to make our own ai mod... :)

The weather system is under-developed and needs some love.

How far is this moddable? Or is this already solved if we get the climate (in province.csv) right? Would you help us fixing it? ;)

Weather is hard coded to be random across the map and uses the province.csv when determining the weather for each province and region.

I'm just saying the entire weather system (hard-code) needs to over hauled by the new aod devs.

Personnaly I redid the entire aod weather patterns globally in the province.csv file for my own use in the defualt map.

Doing this for the new EU3 map is daunting to me. D

BTW, how many new provs are in this map and has any love been given to the pacific islands ?

You have already done this recently? According to what you have mentioned earlier it seems that this part of the province.csv file was messed up. How have you approached this problem and solved it? I presume that you used the areas as a base for the climate? Or have used the larger regions? And ofc how successful have you been? Does the weather now behave reasonable?

Imho you should offer your corrected province.csv file as a weather mod. :)

Ok, if you want you can have the job! :D

Many provinces haven't been moved, but sometimes an id was reused 2 areas away from its earlier position. Mainly provinces from the USA and from Sibiria in addition to sea zones have been used to fill the gaps. The sea zones (100 Infra!) are easy to spot but the others can only be detected by the name of their area. If we could use Excel then it would be quite easy to exchange and correct this column in province.csv file but sadly it corrupts the file while saving it. iirc there is a little trick which allows you to use Excel for modifying the province.csv file. Someone mentioned it here on the forum just a few months ago.

province_names has in total 2607 provinces. This limit originates from HOI2 because the E3 map was made for Arma.

I like mumia's pacific islands. :) The only gripe I had with them was that I to use wiki to find the names of the islands because he has named them after their 'capital'. These 'capitals' are mostly inhabited by less than 1000 people... ;) It was quite interesting to read about micronesian history though.

If you have some ideas which historical bases are missing please post them here. The scenario files of E3 are the only partially adapted HOI2 scenario files which ofc don't take into account that the E3 map is more accurate and detailed than the vanilla map. Although I have used the AOD scenario files as a base they suffer from this problem, too.

Therefore I have already slightly amended some provinces. I.e. by adding Gdynia as a polish naval base while reducing Danzig or adding Hamburg and Stettin. There are several more provinces which should be amended, e.g. imho is Washington as a naval base not appropriate.

I've been looking over the beautiful Victoria II Map... :) More provinces (AoD has 2,608, apparently some 3,246 for Viki II), but not like HoI III. The map itself looks similar to the one in HoI III but I think it is far more beautiful.

Hmmm... now wouldn't a map like that look great for AoD! Not that the E3 Map deserves less praise, far be it for me, since it is a truly wonderful map, too! I guess I just love maps!:D

The V2 map is beautiful, ofc! Thanks to the work of OHgamer we can enjoy that map, but let's hope that V2 is good enough to keep us interested, too. A similar map was - for years - in the works for V1 until P'dox hijacked the clio map project. That is good for V2 but not for V1. Sadly the type of the map depends on the engine of the game which itself has many limitations. Now are far more provinces for AOD allowed, but I'm not sure that we'll see a map which utilises them to the fullest. But the E3 map is already a very good base which can be improved (e.g. more sea provinces) if anyone is willing to do it. Having seen the E3 map it's quite hard to play again with a standard P'dox map.:)

That's for sure! :D. I can't even think of it. Still, graphically speaking, the Vic II Map is stunning for its clarity and aesthetically good looks. That is not to say that the E3 Map is less so, since it is in itself a great map for the game engine it was built on. I particularly find that the border outline of the countries is far more realistic in E3 than in default. Ah... maps...

I've spend countless hours playing P'dox games. It's good to see that they've finally recognised the importance of a good map. While playing we're looking for most of the time at the map and it's for me the heart of a game. :)

Ah... maps...

Sic!
