As stated in the title.. Just curious if there are any benefits to letting your ruler command armies. any sort of unmentioned morale buffs, country buffs, or anything else.
Thanks in advance..

Which can also be an advantage if you have a better heir than the ruler. Same for the Heir if you make him general to make him die (instead of disinherit, if you want to keep the prestige for example).Disadvantage is that he can die faster, and if he dies in action you take another stab hit.
Saving mil early game is usefulIt used to be quite handy when you only had 4-6 general slots. But with leaders being based on force limit, it really isn't that good anymore.
Is it? I feel mil points are just too plentifull with too little to spend them on.Saving mil early game is useful
How often do you hit tech 5 earlyIs it? I feel mil points are just too plentifull with too little to spend them on.
Not sure tbh, I don't keep track of when I hit which tech. but the year of tech 5 is 1466. base rate of MP is 3, let's assume a leader skill of 3 as well and I almost always start with a mil advisor, so you generate 7 mil points per year, maybe even 8 if you get the PP. With 7 mil points per month you can generate 1848 mil points before 1466.How often do you hit tech 5 early
I guess you are counting a full 1444, but the game starts in November, so it is 7+21*12*7 = 1771 points. Yes, you will need only 1.200 for the 2 techs to reach mil 5, but there is also Renaissance in 1450 which i usually try to get early with developing a province and every extra point you can spent on development helps a lot there. So it should be possible to hit tech 5 early quite easily and like I said: I don't know what else you want to spend your mil on except rolling for generals
Single player probably yes. In multiplayer, especially early game mil points are extremely valuable as the tech difference at those levels is hugeIs it? I feel mil points are just too plentifull with too little to spend them on.
If you take tech 5 in that year, you are very late. Tech 5 loses its extra cost in 1453(the year of tech 4), because then your tech 4 is not ahead of time anymore and you lose the extra cost for the next tech. To get the 1200 mil points(a little less because of your starting points, but if you don't have renaissance, you pay 15% more) in the 8*12+1 = 97 months before 1453, you would need 1200/97 = 12.37 mil points per month.the year of tech 5 is 1466
Early in the game Mil points are quite tight. Especially if you want to also get an early mil idea group. It's only after 1500 or so that you really start floating mil points. Is it? I feel mil points are just too plentifull with too little to spend them on.
Does making a ruler a general but not assigning to armiesIt makes some Ruler personalities more or less likely
Increase chance of dying only if assigned to armyDoes making a ruler a general but not assigning to armies
1. Affect the chances of gaining good or bad military traits?2. Increase chances of dying?

Interesting. Seems like you could potentially fish for these traits without too much risk by making your ruler a general and NOT assigning him to lead an army.It makes some Ruler personalities more or less likely
