The 'local' pirate organisation has more influence, over a wider area, than any of the other factions AND they have access to stockpiles of LosTech...

The 'local' pirate organisation has more influence, over a wider area, than any of the other factions AND they have access to stockpiles of LosTech...

Who are they REALLY?

"The Comstar News Bureau would like to remind our viewers that we have reported on pirate bands discovering SLDF caches, but that reports of pirates utilizing LosTech in great numbers has been exaggerated by governments throughout the Rimward Periphery to justify increased military spending, instead of essential services to match Inner Sphere standards. Comstar is here to fill the gap in providing food, medical care and other improvements to quality of life while the Periphery governments use pirate attacks to hide the fact that even with their larger armies, they are failing to protect their people from the scourges of poverty and disease. Comstar also supports those who are making bold treks into the stars to find new homes when they want to be free because these weak governments failed to pay their monthly protection to these pirates. And the Comstar News Bureau will fight against "Fake News" as we fight against Poverty. As our HPGs keep the Galactic Economy together, these jealous governments have allowed anti-Comstar conspiracy theories to propagate and blame our Order for their own mistakes. They continue to spread darkness and fear, while Comstar brings light that shines through that darkness. Despite blaming us for their civil war, the Zathras system has not yet vanished from galactic maps, and that is due to Comstar aid. Ignore the empty rhetoric and those who speak the language of despair. Comstar brings the Hope for a Peaceful Galaxy, as envisioned by our founder. We Thank You for your Patronage and May the Peace of Blake be with you."

wellll.....comstar wasnt surprised about the clans since they enfolded the mini soda tribe into their organization....
comstar went looking purposely for Kerensky's heirs.

with that in mind....it is not a stretch at all to believe that comstar and at least some of the pirates are one in the same.

Put yourself in Comstars position. Some uppity great house is not paying for its nextflix subscription just useing another great houses subscription (never look at FedComs favored). You need to send a message.

Are you going to make a big deal sending your prized Los tech mech to possibly get damaged?

Do you trust the Mercinary Review Board to keep it quiet, so you don't end up with a lance running around saying we work for Comstar? They can't tell the difference between a lone commando and a Stiner recon lance. Can you believe the lies they spread about this "Marauder-Catapult" They don't even know a Timberwolf when it hits them from outside sensors range.

Or do your agents pass along some information to regarding a shipment the local pirates may be interested in? Who they going to tell the drunks at the tavern? No one would believe them and you could always tip off a Great house or M.R.B. as to the location of the pirates that attacked them.

Yep.. didn't change until the Dragoons took over the job. As for the local pirate organization being comstar.. well, some of them are.. how else is comstar going to get live training in the field for Comguard? That and some of those pirate bands are packing an overabundance of well maintained heavy mechs and there are a LOT of them. Pirate bands are fickle as all get out and do not as a rule play with each other nice.. (The enemy of my enemy is my enemies enemy. Nothing more, nothing less) ALmost surprised we aren't getting hired by one pirate band now and again to remove some of the competition... or then again, maybe we are but just don't know it. It's the Battletech Universe.. macivellian doesn't even begin to denote the depth of treachery under handedness, and flat out lies and misinformation in the BT 'verse.. and that's the inner sphere.. were out in the periphery!

So are some of them comstar.. of course they are. But you'll never know for certain which ones are or aren't. Especially if your dealing with a ROM operation which you certainly will be at one point or another. And of course if you ever figure out which is which.. I would suggest sitting on that information ohh forever might be sufficient. Your a small merc unit. If Comstar wants you gone it will be arranged.

Welp found this thread since I heard someone say that if Pirates get reinforced by their ally faction in one of the mission types, their ally faction turns out to be Comstar and I wanted to check if that is true :O

There are rumors that on two of my missions the same thing happened. As luck would have it, there is no evidence to suggest this ever happened.
