Well if you download some mods that increase the number of barbarian nations, then yes playing as a barbarian nation can be fun. It also can be difficult due to Rome's power.

So in my opinion, it is fun to play as a barbarian state and take on the major powers such as Carthage and Rome.

In the vanilla game, barbarians factions aren't even playable. You are lucky if you aren't wiped out by a randomly appearing barbarian horde before Rome or Masilla walk all over you at their leisure. You'd have to download a mod to change that.

Just so you know. German tribes aren't included in vanilla. We've added them into some mods (including mine), but only Celtic Gauls and Iberians, and the Dacians are included in vanilla.
Also, the very first clear evidence of the Goths is from near the end of the period covered in the game, so they're not likely to be included at all (except possibly in either a non-historical mod, or a mod which changes the timeframe).

I have been playing a game Nevrii (sp?) for a while now (it's 678 AVC) and I have been having a blast. I started out as a little one province minor gaul military tribe and I have grown to a rather large Military Republic. And when I say large I mean I own most of modern day Europe minus a handful of provinces in southern spain that are owned by Carthage, Massilla is down to one province and will be annexed the next time Rome DOWs me and I am going to end up taking a province or two away from Rome in my current war with them. At this point my big threats are Carthage and Macedonia but they have yet to dow me.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am playing with vanilla 1.2.

Just so you know, this is a lie. There are 2, German tribes in VANILLA. Not a lot, but there are two.

In regards to the OP, I don't know about IN, since I won't buy it after the disaster that is EU: Rome. EUIII was bad as was Nappy's Ambition and after I bought Rome, I refuse to buy more of PI's products, until Rome is a game that doesn't have Macedonia colonizing half of the world.

You're missing out, IN has made EU3 into the game it always should have been, you won't regret getting it and it will give you something to do until more Rome patches and mods come out.

I'm sure it is good, but I've walked away from PI products till I get one I'm satisfied with what I've paid for up to now. And after spending over $150.00 for EU:III, EU:ROME and EU:NAPPY and not getting a good product, I've become one of those "once bitten, twice shy" consumers.

PI needs to regain my trust with EU:ROME, if they can't do that, they can't have more of my money. Now I'm going back to playing WoW.

Yes, Gauls are interesting to play but it's difficult and tricky. There's the Roman steamroller, though.

I have not played Gauls with 1.2 though but someone has said that with the latest patch, they are definitely worth the try. I know that I will soon play Aedui or Arverni.

I can understand your despair. However, I been a PI fan since EU2 (which was amazing) and Crusader Kings was also up my alley. At first, I was also disappointed with EU3 but IN has made it incredibly better. Eu:Rome will be a great game, but give it time. It'll take about a year I would say until it's polished enough to be considered great.

I still have my EU:I copy, somewhere, so I've been a fan for quite a while. I'm just not willing to throw good money after bad. Loved EU:1, EU:2, HoI, Vicky, HoI2, Vicky:Revolutions, Armaggedon, even liked CK, though I got bored. So, when I claimed that EU:Rome & EU:III & Nappy, disappointed, it doesn't mean I don't know what a good PI game looks like. I'm just not going to give them cash for IN, until Rome is managable without having some Greek settlement on the NW Coast of the Black Sea having the same Civilization rating as Carthage or having Masillia, Bosporeans and Macedonia become colonial superpowers of the ancient world.

The issues have been brought up, they just haven't been fixed. And until they are addresed, I'm not doing any more purchasing.
