Been away for a couple months, looking to do an 1444: England ->Thirteen colonies -> declare independence ->USA game. Anyone know whether this is viable atm and whether the dlc events will properly fire?

I believe in the past they did not work if playing a non independence war bookmarked start..

England -> Great Britain -> Thirteen colonies -> Declare Independence -> USA would probably be the best option.

However, many events are tied to years on the historical timeline, so when not played from the bookmark, it works best if the independence is somewhat "on schedule". Similarly, because the events are heavily tied to historical situations, they have the premise that Great Britain is the former overlord nation, so you would want to form Great Britain first.

I have seen Castille colonize Thirteen colonies, make Floride, have Floride revolt, win the war, and immediately turn into CASTILLIAN culture USA.

So i think it works.

i was interested in doing this as well, maybe with portugal, to try to start colonizing super early then raise tariffs to get liberty desire above 50% so i could release them and play as them. will raising tariffs to boost the liberty desire work to release the nation? i also wonder if you could form the USA through this method bc of the culture

Similarly, because the events are heavily tied to historical situations, they have the premise that Great Britain is the former overlord nation, so you would want to form Great Britain first.

I really would love some more flexibility in those events that cause the United States to form. After all the name "United States" is probably the most generic names of all time. Who is to say that the USA shouldn't form in Brazil or Canada? (Well you at Paradox, I guess).

Some players have expressed, what is in my view, an unreasonable dislike of colonies having any kind of independence. However I feel that the current situation is that CNs are far too submissive to their overlords, for example even if a parent nation is reduced to a OPM a large CNs they are overlord of is still very unlikely seek independence. I think a modification to the American Dream event chain, making it more flexible, could remedy that in a fun way.

The thing is, the AI can't really figure out how to work cross atlantic warfare and as a player, i will almost *neveR* surrender unless i'm at -100 or am entirely outmatched, and I imagine more than a few people, especially the ones that complain about CN's revolting, will behave exactly the same. I'd love to see almost all of the new world go independent and have their own politics eventually, but between border gore and poor AI for anything that seems to be a CN in general, I think that it'd take a lot of work to make it happen.

American Dream was not designed to work with Conquest of Paradise because Conquest of Paradise did not exist at the time. The bugs stem from a free update to said DLC to expand American Dream's functionality so that it can take advantage of CoP and failing to predict a particular rare scenario. Would you have preferred we didn't make this update?

Also, just because the other devs don't post as much on the forum doesn't mean they care any less than I do.

I would have preferred you had set out a "ground plan" for the game that did not include DLCs that cannot interact with each other. Just imo.

EDIT: Just purchased American Dream DLC. Want to see if it works for me, then I'll get CoP. I'm fair; I'll take your word for it.

From a business ethics point of view, you had to do this update though, because in the whole time between 1.4 and 1.7 the DLC "American Dream" was half useless, due to its incompatibility with COP, yet was still being promoted ingame on the menu, and the issue were not mentioned on the steam store or anywhere IIRC.

I think in the future if a feature of a dlc conflict with a feature of another dlc like that, the fair thing to do would be to fix it asap, so that a customer don't end up with features he can't use despite he paid for them in the first place. If you can't fix it or that you think it will take a long time, then at least put a warning out there for future consumers or set up a refund policy or something for the conflicting DLCs.

I know this is more a marketing issue than anything, and has probably little to do with you in particular, but i think the issue over American Dream was real in that case, and there was kind of a lack of information around it, so it's worth discussing.

Well even if I tend to criticise you for AI-flaws, I have to say that, as of recent, you are the only EU IV developer that has the guts to "deal" with the criticism that is coming from the community. You deserve credit for that.
If you say that the others do care then I hope that they will return to the forums and actually reply to threads.

American Dream was designed and marketed as a DLC that expands on the 1776 start date and the historical American War of Independence. Later the ability to form the US as Thirteen Colonies was added in CoP and people wanted American Dream to work with a non-historical American War of Independence. Integrating the two so that the events work ahistorically was something we did for free because you guys wanted it. When you're integrating two things that were never really meant to work together you sometimes create bugs. I think it's just a little bit unreasonable to then point to this as evidence of American Dream being bug-ridden.

I would prefer less bugs. I would prefer less significant strategic and mechanics tidal waves between patches and new dlc's. While we're having some real talk, I'd prefer if you fixed Japan asap too.
I spent like 40$ to buy EUIV a year ago....LOVED IT. A year later, I've spent well over 100% more to expand via dlc's and sprite packs... the investment doesn't seem to have enhanced my infatuation - quite the opposite. The latest dlc is already being marketed, with no gameplay footage even shown. Most days, I'd prefer being able to roll back to launch and just forget the whole thing. As it stands, kind of sucks to realistically expect any current save I have to go obsolete every business quarter.

Edit: but wiz i <3 u man you're solid keep up the good work just for the record

So American Dream DLC worked "somewhat" Played as Great Britain from the July 3rd,1776 start date, relased Thirteen Colonies, they immediately formed the USA. Tag switch, got my events, etc etc etc. Who knows with CoP?

CoP adds playability as a CN and native american enhanced mechanics, so it should be exactly the same with the DLC enabled.
