Are the +7 mineral/energy deposits now all around a bug or working as intended?

There was a reference in the 2.2.4 notes about forcing high quality spawns on planets with certain modifiers so I initially took them to be intended. But recently Jamor made a comment to the effect of he was looking into the abundance of minerals.

Not complaining either way just curious whether it was a design choice or a bug. Personally I like the new spawns as it speeds up the otherwise slow early game. What does everyone else think?

Someone who looked at the code said it was a bug -- IIRC, code that was supposed to promote deposits on colonizable planets accidentally forces a lot more orbital deposits than was intended, too. I didn't check his work, though.

I think it'd be fine if such deposits were overall rare, but everyone started out with one. Speeding up the early game is a good thing.

The problem comes later, when you realize that there's never any point to building a mining district.

It'd make as a nice start setting, like the guaranteed habitable planets, for people who want an easier game. For most of my last game, I've been swimming in minerals (and everything else, for that matter) and I had to keep selling them else the storage was full.

I think it's the other way around, those deposits are supposed to spawn on non-habitable worlds with certain modifiers, but also spawned on habitable worlds with those modifiers, which basically destroyed them. That was fixed a few days ago in the beta version, and I think they also reduced the the mineral/energy deposits that are being spawned by these events from 7 to 6 in that same update.

It's a bit of a weird implementation by the way, because those deposits are spawned by surveying the planet without an actual anomaly event. I don't think any other deposit works like that.

That does sound like it makes more sense.
