Are Sentient Robots considered aliens for the sake of Xenophobe ethos?

If I play a materialist and xenophobic empire, will my pops hate living near emancipated robots because they are aliens even if they were created by my empire?

I suspect Toasters are not considered xenos at all, while the sentient versions might have a limited 'xenos' quality. I suspect that they will not be as bad as real xenos, but not as good as 'real' same species pops.

Depends. I suspect sentient robots are likely considered a full-fledged "species" game-mechanics wise compared to basic toasters... so if the game maintains organic and synthetic distinction even after sentience, then maybe organics and xenophobes will regard them differently from xenos.

Otherwise, I expect the xenophobes to despise these sentient machines that have the audacity to enjoy the same rights as they do. Heck, the xenophobes may even hate machines more than xeno scums--at least the xeno scums bleed funny colors.

On this same note, I am curious as to what Xenophobe species will do when their own species is heavily modified by cybernetics and gene therapy enough to start developing sub species. Will those still be considered part of the original species and as such co-exist with their unmodified brethren, or will the new mecha/super-man sub-species be aliens in the eyes of the original race?

I think a Xenophobe should be fearful of a robot he made himself, if it's free to do whatever it wants. If it's "under supervision" (enslaved) then there should be no problem.

I agree with this. If you don't have Robot Rights, then xenophobes should tolerate them because they're tools/slaves. If you do have Robot Rights, then the standard xenophobe malus should apply.

Dem robots, dey got uppity.

I thought it was mentioned that materialists liked robots and spiritualists hated them. Might have just been a generalisation.

Anyway I hope not I want fanatic materialist xenophobes to at least give the ubermech a chance.

The answer is always to purge those heretics.

XD I'm kind of hoping to use gene and cyber augmentation as the method by which I improve and diversify the strength of my race. As it stands, my go to method of dealing with FTL capable aliens is going to be wholesale genocide, but I do not wish to become dependent upon toasters and servitors to do the colonizing when the flesh of my species fails. So, the question stands not as a matter of having aliens to enslave, but rather, to know if I can preserve the righteous unity of my empire even as the base bodies of its inhabitants are altered through the technology we shall come to possess.

And the big purge began...

"The strong shall survive: the primary universal law. The species that is weak faces extinction. You know, not so very long ago, our species faced extinction. Now the truth is, our victory over the Kilrathi was not a clear verdict of our superiority; it was a fluke: a temporary purchase of time. We will someday face an enemy far worse than the Kilrathi and it is our duty to prepare: to remain strong and to remain vigilant. Even if that means discarding certain elements: for separating the wheat from the chaff.

Now in the GenSelect device we have a tool to do the job. We have tested it and we shall use it!"

I think robots and cybernetic enhancement should have its own dlc at some point. I would so love to have the option to take my base species and "upgrade" the crap out of them. like till all that is left are creepy brains in jars. with giant robot bodies. thats the empire im after! oh and people better be afraid of us! very afraid! *shakes metal clamp hand in general direction.*
