It all seems so vague.. It ostensibly increases effectiveness but does that mean they work faster, produce more or some combination of both, and how is it measured ?

But they only become more effective if they attend school long enough, but how long is this ? If a child arrives at the camp will they be educated long enough or does this really only apply to children born into the camp ?

Thanks

Schools are absolutely worth it. "Educated" stat boost's production speed by 15%. It is unclear, though, how long a child needs to attend school to attain this permanent buff. Given there's no game clock, barring the day-duration progress bar, I doubt it'd benefit us knowing how it takes as how would we even meaningfully use that data?

Without evidence, I would tend to believe the boost goes towards any job: collecting resources, paving roads, working at buildings, etc.

In this early access state, I agree the dev's leave much to our imagination!

IIRC, I built a school right before a child grew up into adulthood and still received the Educated trait for that colonist when doing so.

I don't believe there is a minimum amount of time they actually have to attend school for them to receive it. As long as there is a school built and they are able to attend it before becoming an adult, they will receive it.

The exception being if your school is damaged from any of the catastrophes and your children colonists are unable to attend it, then you won't receive the Educated trait for them when they transition into adulthood so make sure you always prioritize getting your school(s) repaired asap after their taking damage.

The way school work, is that a child has to be registered with a school THE SECOND the game checks for making them adults, if they are registered with a school the adult becomes educated.

I found this out the hard way when I decided to tidy up some building and erased all my schools while the new ones was being built and the game decided to make 10 children adults and ALL of them became uneducated, even while for most of their life they had been in schools.

What would be nice to know is how many schools is needed, is school slots filled based on age of the child or do I risk creating uneducated children if I don't make enough school slots for all children.

If less than 10 children can grow up pr. "time to become adult" check, I would think you only need one school, it's only if 10+1 can grow up at once that you need 2 schools, assuming the game fills schools based on the age of the child.
