True, and the slavic type would rather be the strong cheekbones than the large jaws. Some of the screenshots posted are horrific, I'd rename the DLC Russian facepalm

I like it, together with the troop DLC makes me feel like the Russian countries + Bulgaria aren't just another western feudal country.
I liked the new portraits, sure a lot of the women look ugly, but it's the middle ages, and I've seen some really pretty ones too. I think I saw some Middle Eastern/Russian mixed people in my current Rostov game and they look very nice too both male and female.
I hope paradox keeps putting these out for the other ethnicities too, specially some Mediterranean/Italian ones to go with The Republic next year.

Speaking of Russian female portraits being drag queens...the African female portraits make the russian ones look like a work of art. I saw one screenshot earlier today where the African woman looked more like a man than her husband!!!! PI seriously needs to think about firing their artists or show them some pictures of african people, because the portraits lately have been going from bad to horrific.

lol I don't mind those things though...what I do mind is how horrid PI's portraits are getting. Makes me tempted to no longer use any of them and never again buy any. So if a dev ever reads this seriously make a patch fixing the African women.
I don't' think the Russian and African portraits are bad at all. Not as good as the vanilla or Mongol ones, but reasonable enough. Anyhow I guess I said that enough times already.

No I don't, actually. Nothing out of the ordinary, to be honest. Sure, their jawlines might need a bit of tweaking, but otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with it.
I'm sure the portrait mods we currently have are doing (or have done) something about it.

the portraits are all right, not perfect but not horrible. I can understand some people not liking em but focusing on the female portraits not being "pretty" or "feminine" enough is just some grade a nonsense. And I know this isn't the main thing, but gluttonous does not mean fat, temperate does not mean skinny.

the all point for me is:
was it really necessary to make a russian faces dlcs?? aren't the russians the same Europeans as Poles, Croats, French etc?
I understand Mongols and Blacks dlcs but not the Russians one. For me it should have been limited on changing the clothes to more 'russian' ones and stop.

I actually don't mind the portraits. Also, I know Russian women IRL who have similar features to those in the portraits, so they're not entirely inaccurate (and will fit in better with the rest of the sets too once we get Norse pagan portraits!).
Tricky question really.
Russians do differ facially from other Europeans, just like Italians differ from Norwegians, and just like Nigerians differ facially from Somalians, both are still Africans, but they look different.
I am English, and whenever I meet Russians, I can say that I do notice different looks about them, they are still Europeans so these differences are subtle obviously, but I don't feel I look as similar to them as I do with other Britons or Irish people around me.
So the question of whether it was needed? Perhaps not, they are, as you say, Europeans, in fact the Rurikovichs were descended from a Swede, but at the same time, you could argue a Republic/Italian faces DLC isn't needed because they are also European, they still don't look the same as a Briton or a Dane for example.
I've said it before, but I actually think the Russian faces are better than the vanilla European faces because they look more rough and realistic, compared to the more plastic faces of vanilla.

But that's how it is also in RL. Don't get me wrong, there are some very beautiful African women. But personally I'm not particularly attracted to many African women because of their wide nose and short hair combination, because I like bit more petite features and longer hair. But the actual point which I wanted to make was that IMHO those African female portraits weren't that far from reality. But I would also would like to point out that in RL there's plenty of very masculine looking women in Europe (Russia included). And as CK portraits are portraits of the nobles I want to remind you about the fact that many historical nobles aren't really that attractive looking (even if portrait painters tried to do their best to hide their flaws. But that's from bit later period. We don't have any real high medieval portraits, but sometimes chroniclers comment the appearance of the nobles and those descriptions often portray nobles in an unfavourable light)
Why not? I can usually tell that someone is Russian based on his/her features and appearance. In similar manner I recognize Swedish features etc. It's something which is based on intuition and outsiders often confuse different groups (foreign people have thought that I'm either Russian or Swedish when I'm neither. ;D )

I have to agree with OP. I won't be buying the face pack specifically because of the ridiculously manly-looking women.
She doesn't look too bad. Her sisters, though, look like Scott Bakula.
Pretty much, yes. The old women look like old women. The men look cool. I like the women; I don't think they usually look like men as much as they look cold and gritty. They also don't seem to take any effort to groom themselves, while women in the West look like they have professional hair stylists.
