Are Eastern Tech soldiers weaker now?

Well, yesterday I started my first CS game with TO and in a battle against against Poland-Lithuania i got this

fhtw20Y.jpg

The fight started with my 14k vs 18k or so of Poland, I was winning the battle, and the rest of the people came to help Polish soldiers as you can see, so it was a 14k vs 47k and I won the battle, how can it be possible? Did Eastern Tech got a nerf or something? My moral was just 0.1 point more than theirs and Wizna is a forest but I don't think that was the problem.

At a guess, they arrived the same day that Poland's last regiment hit zero morale.

They were not 0 moral, but yes it had low morale at that point and also i had as a 33% of morale. When the others came we had similar morale or they have a bit more and i still win. We both reached 0 moral at the end of the battle but the win was for me.

1. Your general had +1 shock = more damage for you.
2. They were attacking so it's very likely they had terrain penalties = even more damage for you.
3. Possible tech level difference in your favor?
4. Lucky dice rolls for the first shock phases?

And by the way, it's not like in every battle ever fought larger numbers = autowin.

You appear to have misread the OP.

The OP was the Teutonic Order, and won a battle that by all rights should have ended in a defeat.

I've edited the post to read the other way around. Still, my arguments stand, they're just flipped :p

1) Lucky/Unlucky shock rolls. 9+1 vs 0-1-1.
In non-IM game I once could defeat 17 troops with my 5 stack—save-scuming to get only nines vs theirs zeroes.
2) The others who came to help were with lower tech / morale / <1000 undermened.

3) TO has +5% discipline and +10% cavalry combat.

-> What was Your military tech? And Poland's?

-> A terrain like forest or woods give defensive bonuses and reduces combat width. Since it's 1457, i imagine the combat width is still reduced, which denies some of the numbers advantage.

-> The fact that your general had 3 maneuver pips and his 0 means that if had any river crossing, they would face a GUARANTEED -1 roll in every phase.

-> The Teutonic Order has 5% discipline as a tradition (EDIT: And +10% cavalry combat bonuses), while Poland doesn't have any combat bonuses from their traditions. Lithuania doesn't as well, IIRC.

-> Did you have any Discipline or Land Morale Advisor? Maybe you had and Poland hadn't.

-> Finally, i imagine you had very good rolls on average, and they pulled a lot of 0's and 1's...

Yes it's weird that you won against such odds, but it's not completely implausible.

Well i can't actually remember everything in the battle, but i was lvl 4 un MIL, but idk Poland, maybe 3. And later in the war i had a similar battle and i won again. That's why I was surprised.

Its common sense that Westerners are superior in every way, that's why there's an option to westernize in an attempt to copy their superior genetics.
jk
I do agree with Migalhone with all those negatives and a bit of luck one could overcome any danger in Eu4.
