-Choosing education for ruler's children only
-Ability to sort courtiers by skills
-Ability to set tech-spread messages to log only

Basically anything that will reduce the 5-message-per-second popup hell that is the late game.

I understand that by "choosing education for ruler's kids only" you mean only their education is choosable, and for the others it is random, not that the others do not get it at all?

It would be very easily doable, since education choice is ruled by events, so you can add a condition "condition = father value = ruler" to all those events and get the result you desire, while scripting events for non-ruler children that would give them random education based on some factors, such as parents' education etc.

Whether it is a good idea or not is another matter (although could be interesting), but as I said it is perfectly doable. :)

As for other two ideas:

- Ability to sort courtiers by skill - excellent idea imo.

- Message options for tech spreads - isn't it doable already?

Nope. :( None of these are actually my ideas. People have been screaming for this stuff for ages.

Exactly! Awesome. I'd like to change this myself (which files, btw?) but I'm afraid of modding anything on account of it being a beta patch and all. I'd like to see if it works on vanilla though.

Actually, since I can imagine people wanting to play a game where they choose all educations and people wanting to play a game where they don't have control of it all, a good idea could be to base education events on game difficulty level.

On lower difficulties you would have control over everything. On very hard you would only be able to choose education for your own kids. :p

I only noticed the own kids part and have to strongly disagree. I would have no problem with only your dinasty bit, but only own kids is too restrictive. That means you cannot pick the education of your grandchildren (your eventual heir), you cannot pick the education of your nephew etc. That means you have control over only a very small part of your court.

Well if it's just a matter of adjusting a couple of event lines I suppose it could be left to each of us whether we'd like the feature to be restricted to our own kids or to every single member of the court(as I understand it there isn't any middle ground). I just can't stand the pain in the ass that is trying to conduct warfare or anything in the late game without being bombarded with that horribly annoying popup. Besides the fact that you have to pause and open the stats page for every single person to make sure you don't send someone with 15 marshall skill off to a monastery by mistake.

For me it would also add a refreshing random element to the game, as in a ruler really being able to only look after his kids and not have to choose whether his brother's sister aunt's cousin's inbred son would make a good diplomat or not.

Really, if the pop-ups in general just opened BEHIND one another it would make things a lot more bearable. But, IMO, I think every small change that only needs adjusting a line or two to make the game less of a clickfest also makes it a little better.

I concur with all the above (I think I'm one of mandrake's 'screamers' :) ) I would like to see the education choice limited to possible successors, not just your own kids..... but will live with it if it has to be just your own kids.

A patriarch doesn't just control the future of his children, he will rule that of any family members within his court (and try to go beyond...). So it's absolutely logical for a ruler to pick the education of anyone in his male line as long as they do not hold land of their own or are located at another dinasty's court.

As to the late game in this respect, I expect the problems people are seing stem from overbreeding. This is unfortunate, but it's the player(s)' choice (I also overbreed but I try to countersteer). If you decide to marry every member of your dinasty off just to gain prestige, then you should be able to live with the consequences (totally unmanagable courts and event pop ups every few days).

I don't think this is an area that can be pushed off to the ai (or to be exact, to be determined at random). It will hugely cut into gameplay options for little return.

True, to each his own I would just like to know the details on how I can edit this on my own and if it could have any effects on the game as a whole as far as crashes and freeze-ups go.

What about extending it to every child of you dynasty (in your court).

That doesn't exactly solve the problem that much as you can easily have 50 your dynasty grandchildren from one long living and fertile ruler, who happened to get loads of sons. Which means that most of the hordes troublesomely wanting education can already be your dynasty anyway...

I do not think it's troublesome at least. The only thing is, I'd love the Muslim/Pagan children to have a certain chance to become good Christians when being given a religious education.
