The three older gentlemen were gathered around a wooden table with a small flickering candle giving off a waning light in the small room inside of Heidelburg Castle. The first man Otto Von Kolzeg, Burgrave of Heidelburg, whose face was pinched, was browsing over a few sheets of parchment that the second man, Ernst von Arnim-Boitzenburg the Landgrave of Kaiserslautern, had given him earlier.
"My good Landgrave, I do not know of military and war" The Burgrave said, "I will trust your judgement on military education that you will give the young Prince-Elector."
"I must object to that frame of though!" Ernst exclaimed "You have been chosen as the regent of our Count, and you are ultimately in charge of his education and training, even if I am to train him in the arts of war, you must also become a student yourself, so that you can know that I am sincere in my duties"
"Calm down, calm down friend" The third man said in a calm voice "I understand your zeal in duty my friend, But Otto has chosen us to help raise the Count, and with that choice he has given trust to us. He knows that I will not give him heretical teaching any more than he thinks you will give the boy false training."
"Father Caprivi is right, Landgrave. I do not wish to argue this matter with you. And it is because of my trust in you that you are here." The burgrave stated.
"As regent, have they granted you full control over the youth's realms, Otto Von Kolzeg?" asked the Catholic priest.
"Yes, along with the duties that I still hold over running the town of Heidelburg. Speaking of which, I have an audience with the burghers in a few moments. I ask that you excuse me, and I believe that we should begin the boys training tomorrow"
"Tomorrow?" The Priest and Landgrave remarked together.
"Yes, Tomorrow, I see no reason to wait. Now if you will excuse me..."
The two men rose from their seats as the Burgrave stood and exited the room.
Sitting back down. The two men stared at each other for a few moments.
"Perhaps we should seek each other in council from time to time since this will be a joint venture between the two of us." The priest said, breaking the silence.
"A most wise idea, Father. Now if you will excuse me, I must prepare myself for the long road ahead"
"Certainly" the priest said as The Landgrave rose and left.
Sitting in an empty room, the Priest stared at the waning candle flickering in the breeze of the closing door.
"God give us strength" The priest said, finally standing, extengishing the candle and gently closing the door behind him.
