Don Sanchez spoke,

Aragon also regrets of not achieving the close tie with Mamleuks. In fact, it is on of King Constantine's policy, to establish a close tie with Mameluks. The minor trade agreement would establish the steps that could hopefully lead to the close friendship between our two nations.

Aragon offers to sell the fine Aragonese wines and fishes among with the exotic amber. Are you also interested in iron and silver?

Aragon would like to buy Damascus steel, spices, muslin from your nation. I am curious, do you sell the silk and jade also?

Camanero greeted the Grand Vizier.

Indeed there is no time like the present old friend. Such a route could go from Egypt, through Rhodes on the way if the ships are in need of supplies and end up in your lands in Kaffa. Kaffa could then be the main point from where the goods are distributed. I also suggest that we use the port of Kerch for supplying the ships and nescessary repairs. This way I am confident that both our realms will benefit from this.

There is also the matter of another trade route to the black sea that we have been considering. This is a temporary route that would go to Moldavia. As you know Genova is not accessible to us at the moment, and as thus we need another way to get the goods into Central Europe. Moldavia with their access to the Danube, would be an ideal choice in this matter. As I said this is a temporary route and will in no way compete with the other route between the two of us.

We could then also distribute the goods over a larger area. As you know it would be impossible to maintain prices at a level worthy of your fine merchandise if the supply in one area is too high.

What do you think? Would any of this be agreeable?

The Sultan turns to the Venetian ambassador.

"My Viziers have viewed your Doges proposal and there is some things they would like to rephrase. How ever, as its now clear that Venice and Genoa will settle there issues on the battle field. I feel it to be to unsure conditions to write extensive trade agreements with any of the combatants right now. I´ll will archive the documents and let us speak about them again when your issues with Genoa have been solved..."

The Sultan replies Don Sanchez.

"With the current developing, war between Genoa and Venice. It seems as your nations capabilities at seas grows in importance. If the King of Aragon can assure me that the ships of Aragon can travel the distance between Barcelona and Alexandria, with out risking being sunk by the two combatants, we will continue this discussion and talk more about the details."

The Sultan replies the portoguese envoy.

"I accept your Kings fine gift and higly appriceate the gestaure he, by this gift have made. A man is measured by his words and actions and your King seems to be a man of high valor, so there fore I also welcome you, his envoy, with open arms to my Halls.

As for your Kings pilgrimages to Jerusalem, its a wish I naturally grant with pleasure. I´ll even arrange a special welcoming for such a grandious guest, unless he choises to travel incognito to avoid attention. What ever he choises he is also welcome to visit Cairo and see the wonders of Egypt. It have been ages since Portugal and Egypt last had any differences so he shall not fear for his own security.

As for trade, I am all open for suggestions, as long as your King can guarente the security of his shipments on the mediterranian..."

The Grand Vizier replies Camanero.

"It sounds as a fare deal and Im sure of that the Sultan will approve such a treaty that you speak of. How ever, with the upcoming war between Genoa and Venice he rather awaits the development then risk his goods on Genoan ships to be sunk by Venetian war galleys. If Genoa can prove that they rule the seas and thus can protect the sealanes my Sultan will continue this discussion and thus we can work on the treaty in more detail."

Gulio Cornari has stood to the side for so long, listening to the dog of Genoa spin his plans for trade. A bitter taste has been left in the mouth of every Venetian for they have never seen such rediculous reasons to be thrown into war.
  • "Sultan I apologize once again if I seem too rash, but I think that the outcome of this war shall not trade the matters of trade, Venezia feels that Europe shall not trade with pirates, and for the purposes of trade, Venezia will always have the ability to trade. Regardless this matter shall be solved soon enough.

I would like to discuss with you the standing of our current document, and what issues you may have with it. As a whole does it please the Sultan? Are there any amendments that you would like to append, or shorten? Is there basically anything that I can do as your servant and liaison between our nations to clearify the current contract."

    Cornari bows deeply.

The Sultan replies Cornari.

"I do hope you understand our position. We will not risk to sign any major trade agreements to any nation who may lose its entire capacity to conduct trade. Let me state it this way. He who wins of Genoa and Venice can be rather sure of getting some very profitable trade deals..."

A reply to the Sultan's letter is received from Portugal.

"To the Sultan of Egypt"

"It is with great delight that Reginald, King of Portugal, reads your latest and missive and is happy to accept your invitation for a visit to Cairo and the wonders of Egypt - and in particular, a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When things have calmed in the Mediterranean, we seek to make arrangements for his arrival."

"As to the trade in the Mediterranean, with the recent war breaking out between Genoa and Venice, we firmly believe that the question of who can provide the best trade routes will shortly be decided between the galleys of these Italian states."

"While many states will make offers to the Sultan, no one can say for sure until the results of that conflict decide."

Baraq Khan had enjoyed the hospitality of the Sultan some time now, but yet there was many wonders to view in Egypt. There where also other things to rejoyce over. The crusade had utterly failed, as all crusades often did. The infidels where seldom any match for well trained arabs and the only time the christian had been victorius was when they managed to divide the Dar l Islam before they strucked. There latest decleration of war against almost every muslim nation had only led to a greater unity among Dar l Islam. The question was now what would happen when there where no external threats that endangered Islam. Well no one thought about this, this day in the Palace. Instead the Sultan had invited Baraq Khan to see a wrestling match, Yorgi, the Sultans personal wrestler, versus some Iberian slave purchased from some pirates from Alger.

The match ended as it usualy did, Yorgi broke the neck of the Iberian and the crowd cheered there favourite…

After wards the Sultan and Baraq Khan sat down yet once more, to discuss current matters concerning state affairs.

”This unity among the muslims is a good thing, the question is how long will it last. Already the timurids raising new forces, against whom will they marsch? Already the Ottomans have regained much of there former strenght, what will they do with it? I understand that your own nation now borders several nations that is both active in foreign diplomacy as posses great forces…”

The both men continued to discuss there views on the future…

The Vizier meets Camanero, the Genoan ambassador.

”I heard the rumors. Your Doge have once again been victorious. If his victories continues there will be no doubt about who the Sultan will entrust his goods to. Already it is clear that the Genoan navy controlls the Eastern parts of the Mediterranian. This might led to that I will soon present a proposal for our long agreed trade on the Black-Sea route…”

Camanero replied to the Vizier.

Yes, we have been blessed with great victories so far. I find it highly amusing that the venetians did not sail out to meet us, weak as they think we are. That is what they have said about us after all. Even here in your Sultans fair city they have talked about our weakness I believe.

We will soon find out who is the weakest, if they actually dare to put up a fight that is.

Gulio Cornari looking at the conversation, smiles and just waits for he knows the plans of the Doge. Gulio then just closes his eyes and sits back in his chair unhurt by the stupidity of the Genoan. Finally he can not stand such slander and speaks up.
  • "Sultan I apologize for the Genoans words for he does not know who he represents. Italians are not normally so pompous, but just like Icarus, Genoa has ascended too close to the sun, and will be brought back down to earth, their egos travelling behind them.

I only hope that your majesty shall wait for the final battle for it shall come soon.

Cornari turns to the Genoan and repeats
    ...soon"

Cornari bows deeply and returns to his seat.

A letter from Arslan Khan of the Persian Khanate arrives for the Sultans eyes only.

Honourable Sultan and the strongest man in all shia lands.

I write to you to let you know of the grave injustices which are made to my people in the Al-Agta Khanate.

Despite the fact that we are the most populous religion we are forced to live under a Sunni ruler.

The Shia majority of Persia is forced to maintain Sunni Mosques for the minorities.

Wethever the Agakhan starts a war, the Shia forces are forced to choose campsite last of all forces.

And worst of all, we are not allowed to spread the true words of the prophet.

After the recent war against the Christian invaders the Aghakhans followers have been greatly weakened while the true moslems are as strong as always. This is a grand time to explain how wrong he have been to the Aghakhan. To convince him that the Shi'it way is the right way.

However for such an act to succsede I will surely need aid from the one and only shi'it Sultan.

A middle-aged man arrives in Egypt and presents himself to the court of the Sultan. His thick curly hair and classic features belie his Greek heritage.

"I am Yorgi Mikalius of Trebizond. I am sent by Sultan Mehmed II Han, Khan of Khans, Emperor of New Rome, Ruler of Both Lands and Both Seas, to represent the interests of the Ottoman Empire at your court. The Sultan wishes me to pass on his most sincere gratitude for your support in the recent conflicts with the Franks. I beg you to allow me to serve at your court and seek to open a dialogue to forge stronger bonds between our domains."
