"I fully accept you here in my court, and welcome you as a member of the Royal Family of Portugal. I understand about your sister as i understand how women are, i have 4 sisters myself. I would very much like to throw the first ball of my court since my return from England. I will now show you to your chambers. I am eager to get the preparations for this ball underway. As i will present my sisters to you I hope that very much a match can be made as i feel it would cement the bonds of friendship, by making our Royal Houses family. What say you about the possibility of a Scottish Royal Bride?"

The Prince bows and speaks to the King.

It shall be my honor and joy to cast my eyes upon your rumered lovely sisters. For I have myself, been rather fond of Scottish women in the past. With Scotland united in marriage with Portugal, we shall be close indeed, and most importantly we shall be able to repair the damage that had befallen us recently, as is my father's wish. Please, let me see your fine sisters.

The Prince bows again, and smiles at the royal majesty.

Lothar Stoiber and Erich Bruche has witnessed the events with the Portuguise, and chuckled among themselves.

Now, seeing the King his attention from the Portuguise prince just a second, Lothar quickly takes the opportunity.

"Noble King.
It is my hope that I may soon send word to my duke that I have been accepted as Bremer ambassador in you fine nation.
Furthermore, Erich Bruche here.."

Lothars companion nods as his name is mentioned

".. wishes to know if he can begin negotiations with Jacob McCloud straight away, or if Your Royal Majesty wishes to be present."

Lothar Stoiber steps back, bows deep, and waits for the Kings response.

King James smiles and speaks with the young ambassador from Bremen.

"Of course young man you are accepted here in my court. I look forward to hearing many of your tales, and working closely with you to start the friendship of Bremen and Scotland a very close one. Also Jacob McCloud is very interested in hearing what Erich Bruche has to say. In fact here he is now"

Jacob McCloud wearing his medal of the Trade Union of Scotland enters the room, bows before his King and Speaks:


"Hello Fellow Trade member from Bremen. I have heard much of your trade and of your membership in a great trade League. What say you of getting Scotland to being a great Trade memember with Bremen and of Europe. I await your response."

With that Jacob McCloud and Erich Bruche walk to his office in the Palace to begin talks, and King James continues to talk with young Lothar.

"So son i hope that you fine Scotland to your liking. I have heard that you learned your rules of diplomacy in Bavaria. I'm sure you'll do very well here in Scotland. What say you will you be attending the ball for the Prince of Portugal. I hope so."

Prince Fernando bows before the King and speaks to him.

My majesty, it is with my brother's good news, that he invites swas buckling seagoers to Sagres, in search of Prestor John in Africa. Please send word to your people for him.

Fernando bows again and smiles at the King.

I have received your letter, and I would be enchanted to meet you in the peacefull lands of Scottland. I feel honored by your invitation, and hope we can find common grounds for marriage between the Stuarts and the de Berry.

The time had come for the ball to honor Prince Fernando of Portugal in the court of King James I of Scotland. No expense had been spared for this foreign prince who was here to pick a bride of the Royal Stuart blood to tie the two nations of Scotland and Portugal together.

Trumpets blared as King James I and his Queen Joan just showing the first signs of her pregnancy walk down the staircase into the ballroom at Linlithgow Palace. Followed behind them is Prince Fernando of Portugal, looking dazzling in his royal robes. Truly the sister of King James who became the wife of this man would be lucky for he is known for his handsome face and his intelligence. Following Prince Fernando comes Prince Duncan Stuart, King James' only brother in Scotland as Prince Henry was currently in Luxembourg courting the Duchess of that fine nation. As the King, Queen, Prince Fernando, and Prince Duncan take their seats it is time for the Pagent to begin.

Bagpips blare as the Princesses of the Royal Blood comming two by two enter down the staircase. Each showing great beauty and grace. Comming down in order of their ages were Erin, Isabelle, Jean, Elizabeth, Mary, Abigal, and finally the twins Magaret and Majorie. After the Princess each do a dance it is time for Prince Fernando to dance with each. King James watches as the Prince dances with each of his 8 sisters. One can not help notice that the Prince smiles most when he is dancing with the eldest Princess Erin. For King James this is a happy moment as Erin is the sister who he would like to marry Prince Fernando. Erin is a tall slinder woman with dark brown hair and deep green eyes. She is known for her talented needlework, her love for art and books, and overall her warmth that illuminates even the darkest of rooms. King James sees that the dancing is over and begins to speak.


"Today we are here in order to celebrate the binding of the nations of Portugal and Scotland together. Not only in friendship, but in a marriage that will bind the House of Stuart to the house of Mestre de Avis forever. I hope that Prince Fernando is happy with the choice that we make here today in one of my sisters. Let us eat and enjoy, after we eat the choice will be made as to which sister will wind up a Princess of Portugal."


Sitting down King James begins to eat and speaks with Prince Fernando.

"The choice in my mind is set, and i belive it is so with you is it not. You have the most in common with Princess Erin my eldest sister who i think that you will be happy with and she will give you many children. Shall we make the announcement that you will marry Princess Erin Stuart?"

With that King James digs into a nice piece of stag meat and awaits Prince Fernando's response.

Good nobles and audience of Linlithgow Palace. I have made my decision in whom will bewed me and atend to me at Lisboa. If the King's good and beautiful sister, Erin wishes, it shall be my pleasure to unite under God together forever. Fair lady Erin Stuart of Scotland, beauty of a thousand seas, will you marry me tonight?

The Prince is now at her side bowing to her. Then Lady Erin begins to speek as the room freezes in her response.

...It shall be my honor my lord. Please, let us dance in our joy.

With that the Prince gets on his feet and romantically kisses Lady Erin for the first time. He then dances the night with her, as the ball continues, it is clear the expressions of faces are good and happy. For now, the friendship between Portugal and Scotland will continue to blossem. Good King James is most excited, and he lets out a strong masculine laugh, and together with his sister and his future Brother-in-law, they eat together and talk about rather silly topics and about themselves.

They dance the night away, and afterwards, Prince Fernando asks for permission from the King to use a room, and he grants it, he then takes his future wife's hand and together they laugh and chuckle as they run up to the room for the night.

As the newly bethrothed couple is getting to know each other under the watchfull eye of the Queen they hear that King James has summoned the entire court to the ball room for a great announcement. They all fall into the ballroom as they hear what the King of Scotland has to say.


King James I speaks:

"Royal Family, honored guests, nobles, people of Scotland. Today truly is a great day for the House of Stuart as my sister Erin has just been betrothed to Prince Fernando of Portugal, but another great event has happend to the House of Stuart, which i have just gotten word about. Elisabeth I duchess of Luxembourg, Queen of Hungary, Bohemia and Croatia, overlord over Helvetia has made her choice in a husband, and has picked Prince Henry of Scotland my younger brother to be her new Husband. Let us rejoice and feast yet more at the glorious news of this event. I am looking forward very much to visiting Luxembourg in the near future for the wedding."

The King smiles again and grabs the Queen and begins to dance.

During the celebrations, Erich Bruche, negotiator for the Hansa, manages to find Jacob McCloud in one of the few moments where the scottish merchants weren't dancing.

The Bremer dragged him aside and spoke to him:
"Collegue.
As you're proparbly aware, I'm here authorised by my duke to negotiate an agreement between Scotland and the Hansa.
So, I propose we meet tomorrow, and by then I would appreciate if you could tell me what Scotland wishes from such an agreement. Then I will counter with the Hansa proposal, and hopefully we can soon reach a treaty. It's not like we don't share the same goals here; increased profit for both usself and the nation we represent.
Now, can't keep the ladies waiting, I also belive I have to try that national drink of yours."

With these words the two merchants threw themself into the celebration, both waiting for tomorrow where the negotitation would hopefully start.

Lady Erin after several attempts, succeeds in scootching out her watchful mother, only that she listens at the door now. Then she begins to chat with Prince Fernando about the wedding plans, and how to celebrate. They chat long about the common interests and suchlike. Then the Lady retires to her room. Leaving for Lisboa tomarrow morning.

Unto his highness, James Stuart, King of Scotland, greetings and felicitations, from his grace, Friedrich von Hohenzollern, Elector and Duke of Brandenburg, Steward of the Holy Roman Empire.

Your highness reputation for honor and nobility is known widely and esteemed by all men of noble birth. The House of Stuart is a proud and courageous house, filled with sons of bravery and daughters of grace. Likewise, the House of Hohenzollern holds a place of pride and prominence in the Holy Roman Empire, claiming as its forebears even Emperors.

The Lord Johann, eldest of my sons and heir to the Duchy of Brandenburg, approaches his twentieth year and is an honored Knight, having fought on the fields of Bohemia and studied at the university in Bavaria as well. He is a man much to be desired and I seek a suitable and noble wife to provide him with heirs as to grace his court as the future Duchess of Brandenburg.

The plentitude of young women of the House of Stuart is truly a wondrous thing and I would inquire of a suitable princess of Scotland and the suitability of such a union between our houses.

A party gathers and prepares to travel to Scotland now. My son Johann shall be accompanied by the Under-Chancellor of Brandenburg, for while I am at the Diet in Frankfurt, my Chancellor has the rule of Brandenburg in his aged but capable hands. The Count of Kyritz as well shall attend, to represent the Landtag and the will of nobles in favor of this auspicious betrothal.

Other details shall be discussed and the marriage contract proposed, but I trust that nothing shall hinder this great event.

Erich Bruche dressed up in his finest clothes, as befitting for a representativ of the Hansa, and walked trhough the streets of Edinburgh to the guildhall of the Merchants Guild.

It was his wish to start negotiations with Jacob McCloud concerning a close cooperation between Scotland and the Hansa as soon as possble, and he had allready been delayed by this party for the Portuguise prince.

Lady Erin and Prince Fernando meet each other the following morning at the entrence to the Castle and prepare to leave. Lady Erin kisses her parents and family, then she waves as both Erin and Fernando are taken by a royal carriage to the dock, where they will be safely escorted to Lisboa for wedding arrangements and ceremonies.

Noble King

You are formally invited to celebrations and honour bestowed; on the first of the second month from now. (Monday).

It is my pleasure to re institute the Honour of the Golden garter. Which is The Oldest and Highest British Order of Chivalry, founded in 1348 by Edward III. The Order consists of HM the King who is Sovereign of the Order, HRH Prince of Wales and his Knights Companions. Those knights are male and female alike that hold chivalry, honesty and justice most high and have proven it.

This ceremony along with the other titles to be bestowed will be done at Windsor Castle, and if you are unable to attend for any reason you are asked to send a proxy.

The garter is worn by the Knights beneath the left knee and by the Ladies above the Elbow. The Garter's motto 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' is set in diamonds on dark-blue velvet, and the buckle is set with one small and seven large brilliants, and the bearer is known to be true and honoured.

I am sorry that I have to break my oath and my word, but circumstances do not allow me to marry you. I was most unpleasantly surprised by this, but actions by the emperor and certain other people have persuaded me to make this decision. I hope that you can forgive me, and that maybe our houses can make a wedding arrangement of some other sort. If not, then I hope that nevertheless we will enjoy friendship and cooperation for all times to come."

Good King John arrives at Windsor and greets the court. He immediatly calls for a hunt and as all is prepared in the still afternoon he calls for De Cryer.

Letters are sent to Scotland to encourage the king to come early so he might speak with him and noticing the new arrival, in Duke Martinho de Coimbra he askes him to ride close in the chase, so he could gauge the man. He rode well enough.

Richard De Vere helps to gather the loose ends of the organisation of the honours event to come, with gusto.

John hugs James nack and gives him the reigns to a fine mount, ready to hunt already.

Handing him a styrup cup of port he replies.

"My dear James. It is about this idea of yours to bring our countries close in love rather than allow the ages of war to tarnish our peace. Come let us speak in private as we ride."


"It gives me pleasure to hear of Joans condition, but i fear it means we will have to leave here in the care of the women at the keep."

He brings forth a great sword with gold chased hilt.

"In honour of your visit i thought you might enjoy this small gift. It is a Claymore and of the finest steel from Aragon."

He turns to Duke Martinho de Coimbra as they leave to hunt.

"Dear duke. We look forward to seing one so long lost to us and will ensure her comfort."

"Portugese troops have done your lord proud on the feild and may now go home. If you were able to sign the treaty, they would allready be on thier way. Old fruit."

"You may also tell him that Prince Henrique holds our favour and it is hoped that he may be the heir for he seems gallant and true."

"Now my dear Duke. Are you weary from the last hunt or would you care to join us again?"
