Royal Castles of Scotland

edin43.jpg

The Castle of Edinburgh situated in the capital of Scotland is the seat of goverment for the Scots. It is the Royal Residence when in Edinburgh

lith19.jpg

The Palace of Linlithgow on the shores of Loch Linlithgow is the favorite palace of James I. Upon his return to Scotland major renovations will be done, and this will be his seat of Goverment for the majority of the year. Edinburgh will still be the official seat of power, but the King will be found in Linlithgow enjoying the Loch and the Hunt.

stirlingtwo.jpg

The Great stronghold of Stirling castle set upon eons old volcanic rock is one of the three main palaces of the Scottish kings, this is a great bastion of Scottish defense, and the third of the three major palaces of Scotland.

A thin priest wearing the brown robes of the Order of St. Francis enters the court momentarily in prayer on a wooden beaded rosary followed by a page livered in a tunic showing the gold lion on black of the Rhineland Palatinate.

Murmuring a few Ave Maria's as he approaches the throne, Father Benedict Magini, Emissary Extraordinary of the Rhine, begins to speak,

"Your majesty...King James, my lord and master the Count Palatine of the Rhine, wishes to welcome Scotland into the international arena and extend his warm wishes to her learned king."

Beginning to finger the beads of his rosary nervously, he continues,

"In addition, the Count Palatine urges you to dissuade your master the King of Britain from further war and bloodshed on the Continent. Such a course of action would undoubtably eventually draw all of Christendom into a roiling destructive maelstrom that would undubitably be a sign of the End Times. I implore your majesty to intercede in this matter as your diplomatic skill is renown and will certainly convince the King of England."

With a deep if slightly agitated bow, Father Magini makes his exit.

King John, his visitors and their retinue move to Canterbury. There, Prince Charles-Phillippe of Naples is Christened and James is crowned for the first time. After his oath of fealty in Vassalage the procetion moves north to Scone.

Messengers arrive daily from France as Good King John keeps in close contact with his "Field commander" Giovanna of Normandy, third consul of the Federation of the Commonwealth of nations.

The weather is fine and the people rejoice. As a Christening present to his new God son, King John gives him a fine hunting estate and lodge in his new posetion of Strathclyde. He names the little boy Count of Gretna Green.

King James is escourted in fine style and with much pomp and ceremony. The Peasants seing two kings of the Brittanic Isles think the whole world must be rejoicing for the peace this seemed to forbear.

The Royal carriage rolls up the hills of England north carrying King James I of Scotland. With him are his men and ladies in waiting, as well as the King of England and most importantly to James I Lady Joan Beaufort the kings of England's niece to whom he is to be married. Scotland is in jubilation at the thought of her King returning from 18 years of "capture" in England.
As the royal carriage rolls over the marker that separates England and Scotland, King James I exits the carriage. With tears in his eyes he bends to the ground and kisses his beloved Scotland for the first time since his youth. Word has spread that the King is on his way back to Scotland. Soon the assembled mass of carriages and royalty will make their way to Scone, for the King of Scotland to be crowned upon the ancient Stone of Destiny. There is much preparation to be done and many people who need to be dealt with once the King is back in his homeland.

A letter arrives from Cologne.

King James,
I have heard of your recent resumption to power even in Frankfurt where I am now supporting my brother for the title of Emperor of the Western Roman Empire. But I suppose that it wouldn't concern your nation unless he was to gain the title, so I will refrain from boring you with the Empire's internal politics.
Due to the Federation's increasing power I will soon be sending a legate to England, although he will likely also serve in Scotland. I hope that this will not be too much of a difficulty for your nation, but if it is be sure to inform me and I will be sure to find another diplomat to serve your nation.

Augustus von Blommenstein, Archbishop of Cologne.

Would you accept an embassy from Livonia? My master, the honorable Kristiern Wasa is preparing to send one..

May I compliment you on your beautiful court ! The colours and the decorations are absolutely smashing..

Oh...I almost forgot..we also would like to broaden the friendship with Scotland..an agreement of trade and commerce would be the best tool for that..I personally would like to set up a branch of my family firm..preferably in Edinburg or Aberdeen..hm..I say, this "Famous Grouse" was excellent..especially together with this dutch "Edamer"-cheese..

The Arrival of Father Martin Casmir

A short priest large in the horizontal sense, waddles his way into the court of King James. Muttering to himself, and searching through his pockets as if he forgot something, he almost hits the court chamberlain on his course for the throne. Finally, he removes a paper, and begins to speak,

"Most learned James, King of the Scots, I, Martin Casmir, a Son of the Church, have been sent by my master the Count Palatine of the Rhine Erich von Wittelsbach, to serve in your beautiful court in Linlithgow."

The priest takes a breath, and looks down at his paper again,

"Your emissary Kyle McKay has been well-received in Heidelburg, and has proved himself to be an educated man of superb breeding and taste. It is a pleasure to have him as a conduit between our two nations."

Father Casmir shifts his weight,

"The Count was most dismayed to hear of your inability to dissuade your master, but is sympathetic to your situation. He is sure, that with time, the British monarch will grow to rely on the wisdom of Your Majesty."

The priest bows, and Father Casmir makes his way off to the side.

Einar Hagstedt arrives at court.

The members of the, new royal court are doing what they do, when they notice an obvious Northerner enter their midsts. He is of somewhat, jolly proportions, no doubt the product of English culanary practices.

Since when did my carriage become so cramped,, I don't remember traveling taking such a toll me. Just as well,,, My, it sure is desolate up here amongst the Scots, it seems to me they got shafted when lands were being divied up ,,

Chuckling laboredly at his own 'wit", the ambassador strides to his place, and addresses the waiting body.

" Greetings Rege,,*damn* I mean your Grace."

" Firstly may I congratulate you on the concluding of your war, and your ascending to the throne of the Scots, a most noble and fierce people."

hell,,,why do I always forget to introduce myself? they must think me ignorant by now no doubt.

" I am Einar Hagstedt , ambassador of the Union Council to these lands, my business is primarily with my good friend King John. However we have recieved your ambassador to our far flung lands. Finnian Ivins was his name?"

I should of brought the letter, but it was either that or the mutton. A man must make sacrifices after all

" The Council of course wishes for good relationtions with all who would call King John a friend. As long as you are thus, I see no reason why our two peoples cannot have a beneficial relationship"

Einar bows to the King and his compatriots

Well that wasn't so difficult, I wonder what these people eat for dinner,,

He smiles and heads for the nearest page boy bearing wine.

Marriage of King James I to Lady Joan Beaufort

scotlandCLR.gif

It was the first time a King of Scotland had been married as King in over two hundred years, and the Stuart court, for whom spectacle was second nature, suprassed itself. The entire city of Endinburg turned out to experience the colour, the sound, the richness of the show, and the great feasts of joy around the city.
According to medieval tradition, the wedding vows were exchanged ouside the church doors of St. Andrews, and solemnized by Mass within the church. A pavilion twelve feet high, decorated with tapestries and the tartan of the Stuart house was set up at the main doors of St. Andrews. The pavilion was approached by an arched gallery covered with green boughs along which the state officials, clergy, and wedding party proceeded to the sound of bagpipe and trumpet fanfare. First came the clans of Scotland in traditional Highlander garb, carrying their broadswords, follwed by bagpipers of their clan dressed in their tartans and royal blue and silver, the royal colors of Scotland. Bishop Stuart was accompanied by his cross-bearer and by chiorboys carrying lighted candles. There were more musicians, followed by a hundred gentelmen of the royal household bedecked in their finest attire, and the Royal Family of Stuart. Most noticable of all was the absence of Robert Stuart older brother of King James I, who at this time was in prisoned in Endinburg castle to await his execution for crimes against the King and state during his tenure as regent. In the procession there were also 12 bishops and abbots; all follweed by King James I, led by King John of England and accompanied by his younger brother Duke Henry of Endinburg, and advisors and family members.
Finally came the moment everyone was waiting for- Lady Joan Beaufort, dazzling in red and blue with the coats of England and Scotland emblazend together. It was the perfect choice for this beautiful woman. On her head she wore a crown of gold, set with sapphires, rubies and pearls of inestimable worth, and around her neck, diamonds and precious gemstones glittered, catching the sunlight. Two girls carried her exceptionally long train, and the crowd went mad with delight as this vision passed by, follwed by the Dowager Queen of Scotland and the Queen of England.
The Bishop of St. Andrews performed the wedding ceremony, and, when the couple exchanged vows, King James removed a ring from his own hand and passed it to the Bishop of St. Andrews, then placed it upon Lady Joan's hand. With that bagpipes and trumpets blared, and Scotland had a King, and a Queen. King James I and Queen Joan of Scotland. Let the festivities commence!!!!!!!!!

John II Rex Brittania of the house of Lancaster steps forward.

Never one to enjoy much pomp and ceremony, let alone lengthy travel, he eyes the maids of honour as they pass. If only all this could be finished he might be able to convince James to come on a hunt.

His heart leapt at the idea, it seemed a long time since last he rode to hounds.

Wondering if the Ex Regents head would be pickled when it arrived on the stake at Warwick, he let his eyes wander to his favourite neice. Yes.. she was happy. James would make a good husband.

As the pipes stired his blood he followed out the King James smiling. Indeed. This was a fine day.

At the steps he halt the prosetion to make a speach.

"People of Scotland!"

"Your King is home and hostilities are gone. We will live in peace and aid each other in strife."

"We.. the King of England rejoice in the independant soverignty of Scotland and pledge to watch over you as would a father."

"Treat your king well and he will do the same for you, for he is a fine man"

"I give my beloved niece to your king and to Scotland! Take care of her and thrive."

"Let us all rejoice. For throughout the land of Brittania this day will be known as a holiday"

As the crowd roar he enters his coach for the journey to board ship for Naples.

Such ideas might take a little time and thought to come to fruition.

By his own hand in Naples, on route to Rome
