"All imports to Nubia must pass through Egypt and be approved by the Sultan. They shall also be subject to taxation by the Sultanate of the Mamelukes."

Sheikh Ghazi looks as though he has swallowed a whole lemon.

"Surely, this must be a jest. I'm most confident that the Sultan wouldn't have included such a paragraph in the treaty."

The Sultan didnt have to look long at the treaty. It was of satisfaction to him. Finaly this sad conflict would end and the Mamelukes and the Nubians could continue to live side by side, in co-existanse.

The treaty was marked and if the Nubian King wished to proclaim it to the masses, the Sultan would confirm it.

A letter arrives from the North.

“Noble King of Alwah, ruler of Nubia,

It please us and bring us much joy signing that agreement with your great Kingdom. Now it seems like we had to use an artichel from that agreement sooner then we excpected to do. We ask for financial support from Nubia. We also think that an exchange of ambassadors could be a good idea again. I am sure of that Zakarya is missing your hospitality.

Signed by

Yusuf al-Zahiri, Sultan of the Mamelukes”

The representative from Genoa stands,

"Great King,

The treacherous muslim Mamelukes have declared war on Genoa a fellow Christian nation. Will you defend Christianity and help to rid these lands of muslims, and declare war on the Mamelukes.

I would also like to tell you that your leader in Constantinople of your church has declared a Crusade against the muslims. Therefor you would also be fullfilling your religious duty.

I hope you consider it."

A letter arrives.

“Noble King of Alwah, ruler of Nubia,

The Mameluke Sultanate is indead interested in this new organisation, OPEC. Egypt, is as you know, a great buyer of slaves. Some is how ever captured by our own “slave traders”, but the majority is never the less imported, so we believe that this organisation can be of great help, supplying Egypt with labours. If Nubia gets two more nations to sign this treaty, then we would know that the organisation would be big enough to be of great help for Egypt and her requirements for slaves. Also then, Egypt will join.

Signed by

Ahmed Abu Mazar, Grand Vizier of Cairo”

Knesset adress the King,
"The people of the Hedjaz have heard talls of the creation of something called the OPEC the Hedjaz is very interested for the lands of Jordan and Arabia need coloniztion. If I could get a copy of the agreement to take back to Mecca to be signed. The Hedjaz is not a major supplyer but will fund missions to collect slaves, our victories against the crusaderes have gained us many christian slaves to sell. I apologise in any way for being persumptious."

A letter from Cairo arrives.

“Noble King of Alwah, ruler of Nubia,

As the relations between our nations have normalised, the Sultan wish to send an ambassador to your fine Court in Soba, that is, if it of satisfaction to you. Such an exchange of ambassadors could also be the begining of even more co-operation between Nubians and Mamelukes. The Sultan also wishes to know how the foundating of the OPEC organisation is proceeding, if you would be kind to enlight him.

Signed by

Ahmed Abu Mazar, Grand Vizier of Cairo.”

A letter from Alexandria arrives.

“Most Honorable King of Nubia,

It is with great joy we heard of your agreement with the Mameluke Sultan, thus a war was prevented, Now, when the borders have opened again for travel and commerce. I wish to continue our discussion of an expedition chartering unknown territory. Another issue would be the matter of the Nubian Orthodox Church. I believe that it needs a strong leader, especially in these times, when heathens surround us all. It is my intension to find a suitable man to appoint to Archbishop in Soba, this decision will of course be made from your royal advise. Would it be of any interest to the Nubian King to find such a worthy man in the face of God, to be appointed to this high call. If so, I am willing to travel all the way down to your beloved Kingdom to visit you my self.

The Sultan replies the Nubian messenger.

“Ah, what a suitable gift, a statue. It is indead pleasing to know that the Nubian people hold me in such high regards.”

The Sultan looks up with dreaming eyes before he continues.

“Well, the loan isnt needed anymore, but it is good to know that the King will put his soldier under my command instead, if needed. I also understand that news takes time before reaching Nubia, but I am pleased to inform you that a peace have been reached between the Mamelukes and Hedjaz. Further more, actions have been taken to ensure that there will be no more warmongering from Hedjaz in the future against faithful Shiites. Maybe your King should take the crusified arabs down, now when they have proven to have a faithful mind afterall. Also tell your King that the Patriarch of Alexandria have requested to equip an expedition to charter unknown land. I have granted him this, so his expedition should cross our borders soon. Maybe your King could provide extra security for this expedition while it travels through Nubia.”

A Berber messenger from Alexandria, brings the King a message from D. Henrique.

Prestor John,

I am Prince Henrique from the far lands of Portugal. I hope that you will allow my men into your nation. Fear not, for we come in peace, and as fellow members of the faith. May God bless Africa.

Sincerly,
D. Henrique

In Dongola

In the muslim city of Dongola, Prince Hasan reviewed the letter.

"Prestor John?

Who in Allah's name could that be? And what is Portugal?

I recall some visitors from Genua or was it Gunae? Nothing much resulted of that visit due to tensions with the Sultan. They must be more christians.

Oh well, the King should be delighted to see them, even if their presence here shall make my skin cringe. I will map them a route to avoid going through my lands.

Send word to Alexandria passage is given."

An Omani messenger has requested audience before the King.

"I greet you with Gods peace, great King. I bring this sword, a present from his holiness the Imam."

He presents the sword, it’s hilt clad with precious stones.

“It is, of course, of the finest Indian quality. His holiness was most pleased with your majesty’s kind congratulations and hopes that the sword will be to your liking. His holiness thanks you for your generous offer and will not forget it. Right now, however, our armies can handle the enemy alone.”

“I also bring word from Abdul-Aziz bin Mohammed al-Rowas, the newly appointed head of the Omani OPEC company. He is most pleased to inform that the
Sennar office is working well. Before long, we might need to expand the facilities.”

“Honorable King of Alwah, ruler of Nubia,

We have been send here by the Patriarch of Alexandria, that wish us to travel through your lands in order to charter unknown territory that havent been reached by the words and grace of God. We wish to travel west, south west, from your fine nation and wonder if we are allowed to stay here a short while in order to prepare us self for the challenges this trip may offer. Also, we would be very grateful if you would like to send some of your brave men along us in order to provide with extra security traveling so far from home.”
