Royal Court of Denmark
Head of State:
His Majesty Erik VII of Pomerania, King of Denmark and Norway, Sovereign of Sweden
Erik was born in 1382 in the Darlowo Castle as the eldest son of duke Warcislaw VII and Mary of Meklemburg. He was christened Boguslaw after his grandfather Boguslawie V - the builder of the castle. After the sudden death in 1387 of Olaf, the son of Queen Margaret, ruler of Denmark and Sweden, the State Council of Norway appointed Margaret queen and her adopted son Boguslaw as her successor. Boguslaw was then moved to Queen Margaret's court, where his name was changed to a more Scandinavian Erik.
In the summer of 1389 Erik, at age 7, was acclaimed King of Norway as Erik III. In 1396 he was elected King of Denmark as Erik VII and in 1397, at age 15, he became King of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, in the Union of Kalmar. Upon Queen Margaret's death in 1412, Erik gained power over all of Scandinavia. However, he elected to give direct control of Sweden to the newly established Union Counsel, in order to establish better relations with the Swedes.
A devout Catholic, Erik is a strong supporter of Pope Martin V, as well as of the Teutonic Order, whom he counts among his closest allies. While Erik wishes to continue the peaceful unification of the peoples of Scandinavia, he does not desire aggressive expansion.
