EVENT

This is the report of the brothers of christ in their investigation headed by Cardinal de Montpetit of the Inquisition in Austria pertaining to the abduction and Murder of the maid Joan of Arc.

Along with prior information gained and expense payed the 1 Papal econ merits a +1 modifier.

1. The Emperor has excelled in his attempts to find the culprits, he can even name them and their whole network. (+2 morale for 4 turns)

2. That there is no evidence of any sort to link any party to the crime other than that which the Emperor has already claimed, thus strengthening his case (+2 morale for 2 turns)

3. That they discover evidence which proves that Austrian, and Austrian disident
nobles alone were responsible for the crime.
(No link to Emperor)(+1 Morale for 2 turns)

4. That they discover evidence which proves that Austrian, and Austrian disident nobles alone were responsible for the crime and that Genovese parties were
framed in order to help them carry the guilt.
(+1 Morale for 1 turn) [/color]

5. That they discover evidence which proves that notable Austrian and Genovese nobles were alone responsible for the crime. (-1 Morale for 1 turn)

6. That they discover evidence which proves that Austrian nobles alone were responsible for the crime, working at the behest of the Emperor himself. (-1 Morale for 2 turns)

7. That they discover evidence which proves that the whole scheme was masterminded by the Emperor, who's attempt to frame Austrian and Genovese parties was made to cover his own tracks. (-2 morale for 2 turns)

8. That they discover evidence which proves that the whole scheme was
masterminded by the Emperor and many of the noble houses of Austria to further some very dubious goals, regardless of the cost.
(-2 morale for 4 turns)

An 8 was rolled.

+1 modifier = 9 (Irrefutable result )

A rumour runs through the diet like wild fire. The Inquisition had found something. Rumour had it it wasn't good.
Just outside the Diet, a cowled inquisitor hands over an ornate set of scrolls to Cardinal de Montpetit. They consist of sworn afidafids and confessions with additional notes on prior investigations. He hovers nearby. Nervous.
The Covering note is writen by one of the Cardinals highest ranking agents, a bishop from Rome, here with him.

"Your Holy eminance Cardinal de Montpetit. Blessed of God. Here are the results that we have accumulated and analissed by your command and that of the Vicar of christ, heir to St. Peter, the Holy father. God bless him.
We have discovered Irrefutable evidence pertaining to the abduction and Murder of the maid Joan of Arc which proves that the whole scheme was masterminded by the Emperor and many of the noble houses of Austria to further some very dubious goals, regardless of the cost. God save their souls. In nomini.Parte, et filli, et spirtu sancti, amen."

(-2 morale for 4 turns to Austria )until June 1425.

[Stepan Vosyl enters the court, carrying a letter from Lithuania]

"Noble Princess [deep bow],
I have only recently recieved a letter from Magnus Dux. He wishes to thank You for such a great work in finding the evil murderers. He hopes that this matter will not impair our relations, but infact improve them and that Lithuania and Muscowy may become good friends in the future.
However Magnus Dux is concerned about the relations between Muscowy and Novgorod. In his opinion, there is no need for you to quarrel when you could live in friendship. There are bigger threats to Russia than a merchant country, and Muscowy should try to maintain good relations within Russia. This is the opinion of the Magnus Dux."

[Stepan bows again and leaves the court]

The Koelner Bishop rises.
Gentlemen, I believe that we should require all members to, at the very least, fund the campaign. Although some of our members may have not participated in Hungary in any way, I do believe that they should at least assist us in riding the Empire's ranks of Heretics.
As the Spiritual Leader of the Liga, a position that I would rather not abuse, I call for a vote to see if we declare this a defensive war - one that would require all members to participate in one way or another. Although Cologne has the power to force this I would feel uncomfortable doing so - I am not one who would like to be known as "the bossy Bishop".

The last comment is intended as a slight joke as the outcome of such a vote seems guarenteed - many of the members have already declared war.

Lothar Stoiber rises to adress the issue put forth by von Nathusius.

"I fail to see how we can declare this a defensive war, none of us have actually been attacked by the Hussites."

He sits back, but only for a short while, as von Nathusius takes him out for a private talk, and when they return, Lothar once again speaks for the Liga council:

"I must thank von Nathusius for explaining matter to me.
Offcourse this must be a defensive war, and thus we are all obligated to help the warring nations."

It is clear that Lothar doesn't really understand the issue, but he follows his self-appointed mentors advice without questions.

We are defending ourselves and the Empire from the heathenous Hussites. Many of our members - Austria, Cologne, Bavaria, Bremen... - are all at war with the rebels already, so the decleration of making this a "defensive war" would show the other nations of the Empire what we think of these Hussites - their ruling over a fellow member of the Empire is an attack upon the Empire itself.
I admit that, technicaly, this is not a defensive war, but I request it primarily for the provisions in the constitution that concern it, the required support namely.

The Count of Kyritz nods his head in agreement.

"I believe that we do not even have to stretch to declare this war defensive. The Duchess of Luxembourg stands threatened in Hungary by the Hussites, who have declared they will continue their war against Hungary. As a member of the Liga, the Duchess is entitled to our full support."

Tenedor del Diablo – The Devil’s fork

The VIII Chronicle by Clarence of Concordia – the Jovial
SMark1b.jpg

In the year of our lord 1423 the world was plagued by war. A terrible war that is still very much living in our very surroundings. The war was caused by foreign invaders in France for about 100 years ago, the blame should actually fall on William the Conqueror, for when he and his “fraternité” in blood slayed the Saxons he took with him personal French property, given to his ancestors by the French king so that they should stop murdering men of God, it was outlined as a vassalage.

The time went on and the House of Plantagenet took over the throne of England with Henry II in 1154 of course as a French lord, vassal to the Most Christian Majesty King Louis VII of France. The order in the two realms was at first in decent shape but eventually England got a miser monarch. The land in France, was his personal property, not England’s, but the miser monarch forgot that and started a war, a war that would nearly last for 70 years. The miser monarch didn’t want to be the French king’s vassal, not as the king of England, but as the lord of properties in France. The war went on until France had an equally bad monarch, “Charles le fou”, whom was defeated at the battle of Paris in the late 10’s. The completely mad French king wasn’t a hard match for the English king – and an unwholesome peace was settled. The war was destined to brake out again.

The Duchy of Normandy was now in the hands of the English king. It was settled through England with a vassalage directed towards themselves. The Regent that was fetched was the feeble-minded ex Queen Giovanna of Naples, brother of the unholy and eternal damned King of Jerusalem.

The tension between the two fractions was enormous. What happened then is very hard to say since the war that broke out is still going on. The treaty of Arras, has allegedly been broken by King John of England, the French king Charles VII answered with a declaration of war which led to the invasion of the Duchy of Normandy. The Duchess her self was exposed to an assassination by the heathen Irish, but survived. Nothing extraordinary in itself except that the two was allied, under a Federation which itself was designed to: “bring peace and prosperity to the people”, it consisted of all the sworn enemies of the Kingdom of France. The two parties was built like this:

The Federation and her allies:

England – Creator of the war, and sole responsible of the creation of the Federation with the sworn enemies of France, hidden under a false flag of peace.
Burgundy – Vassal of France since the age of Charles the great, broke with Charles VII during the war and went in bed with the carroty-haird British, a traitor to his country and liege lord.
Ireland - Expert of Royal Assassinations, specially on his allies. Planned to murder the feebleminded ex Queen Giovanna of Naples among others.
Brittany – A vassal to the King of England, fulfilling his duty as such. Though the vassalage is illegal.
Normandy – Is ruled by the ex Queen Giovanna, whom is the brother to the by His Holiness the Pope Martin, excommunicated and anathematised King of Jerusalem, they condemned him to eternal fire with Satan and his angels and all the reprobate, so long as he would not burst the fetters of the demon, do penance and satisfy the Church; they delivered him to Satan to mortify his body, that his soul may be saved on the day of judgement.
Aquitaine – A vassal to the King of England, fulfilling his duty as such. Though the vassalage is illegal.
Portugal – Ruled by the someone claiming to be Prince Duarte, son of the murdered King Juan of Portugal. The pretender is lacking all chivalric charm and manners one would expect from a prince of the Royal blood. Both his aims and morale is questionable.
Navarre – A puppet, with the English holding the strains.
Aragon – Independent power, member of the Federation for some wired reason. Have been wise not to interfere in the war. Though lending money to the British in their war against the Kingdom of Scotland. Everything has been made according to chivalric manners and etiquette.

Vs.

The Kingdom of France with allies:

France – Fighting a war, where the goal is to maintain the land sanctioned by the pope and the heirs of Charles the great, as such given the title “Most Christian Majesty” the only one of it’s kind.
Vassals – All the present vassals has joined there liege lord in his war, therefore fulfilling the mission they have been given by God, all except the traitor, Burgundy.
Scotland – In war with the British, since they kidnapped and abducted the Scottish King.

Now we can see how it looks… One side is powerful, but drowned in “questionable motives”. The most surprising in the global mess is that the Pope, whom declared himself as such months before he should have been given the post, has decided to support the Federation’s side. How can he? Specially with its many evil strokes… What is his motives, is he sanction by God since he came to power in a bloodless coup d’etate? The fact is that he supports the Federation based upon lame excuses. But perhaps just a lame actor, and there’s no evil in that, it is just sad. He is however threatening to excommunicate the French Sovereign, the only sovereign carrying the title “Most Christian Majesty”. What has the world come to? An End?

Even though numerous fortune-tellers have been declaring:

“Germany, Germany above all
Above everything in the world
When it always, for protection and defence
Stands together brotherly.
From the Maas to the Memel
From the Etsch to the Belt,
Germany, Germany above all
Above all in the world! ”

But is the time of ”Deutschland über alles” already here? The emperor is weak and can only with enormous struggle maintain his Empire, which viciously attacked by Livonia and her rabble pack. The Fact is that the maid of Orleans was kidnapped by a man of the Empire, and still the Emperor does nothing about the situation, perhaps not so questionable since all their internal trouble. But why doesn’t the Pope do something, he is the key person within the Empire? Is this a higher sabotage? Or dose Satan work in the wings?

I say: You can all sod of! I wouldn’t trust any of you to sit the right way on a lavatory!

That is how it came to be, a war in Europe, thought by bitter tyrants.

A system run by Satan, a heaven ruled by God, but we are not quite there just jet.

So in the mud we all must fight, and all by different laws – this is the divine marker.

One thing is for sure, if this mess would have happened with in the burning walls of hell, it would be known as the dark exile, since even the dark one couldn’t sleep in this disturbance. But perhaps we should be thankful for that to since we now know that we are not there either.

So does Burgundy have to have the loan paid back or do they simply start to regenerate it? (I think it's the "still" that confused me. :) )
