To one Rolph Sigerstraussen, who speaks for the Helvetian cities, greetings.

It pleases us that the lowly bull of Uri doesn't seek quarell with the mighty lion of Burgundy, which only proves a wisdom of the former, as he clearly is no match for the latter.

We are amused though by your claims regarding matters of the Holy Roman Empire, which are supposed, according to your coarse speech, not to concern us. Let it be known to you, though, that by the virtue of our dignity, we stand as Margrave of the Empire and free lord of the County of Burgundy. Thus matters of Germans, of French and of Flemish unite in our ancient heritage.

Greater however concern us your letters to Brabant, our dear cousin and obedient vassal, inciting him to rebel against our God-given sovereignty. While we can always appreciate a good jest, a continuation of this distasteful mockery shall bring upon you our swift retribution. May our moderate respect for your wisdom be not tarnished by laughable attempts of a lowly gnome, trying to outsmart a powerful giant.

*An Ottoman messanger steps in.*

"I have come to tell you that the Ottoman Empire accepts your offer for a marrige between our noble houses, but I fear that we have no-one in the ruling family to marry. We offer the marrige of any noble in our relm to you though."
(OOC: I can't find any resources about the families of the Ottoman Empire! Damn non-christian Empires... to little data... :D I hope I'll be able to find something about them soon so I can make a better embassy... grr... :) )

"We also offer to you an defensive alliance between our two nations. Judging by the semi-threat I just heard from the Portugese messenger..."
*He looks toward the door, as if to show who he is talking about.*
"...I'd say that our beliefs are not popular amongst the non-believers and that we must unite to spread the word of Allah, or at the very least to defend ourselves..."

To the most Serene Dux Venetiae, Custodian of the Relics of St. Marc, greetings,

It is with a great pleasure and joy that we have received your most gracious proposal, seeing you as a man most worthy to be our brother. After our beloved father, now so heinously murdered, who fought among the Christian Princes at Nicopolis, we have taken great respect for the brave Venetians, a nation of men valiant, wise and pious.

It flatters us greatly that you found liking with our dear sister, yet to our great sorrow we have to beg you to reconsider your most splendid choice. We know you to be a man experienced with long years of wisdom, who, unlike rash youths, doesn't seek a wife young and feckless, but wise and practical.

Hence, instead of our dear sister Anne, we propose to you our older sister, pious and fair Isabelle, a real crown for her husband's head.

With this brief epistle, we send you her fine portrait, so that you may fill your heart with thoughts about joys of the future wedlock, which shall await you if you choose this beautiful flower.

By own hand at Dijon,

To the Loud-mouthed fool in Burgundy,

Burgundian do you have any idea what you're saying? You're trying to tell me that Burgundy is a German state. Now, I don't know about you but the last time I checked the map, it showed that the town of Dijon was in France. Perhaps you are not blessed with clear eyeight and therefore the map is rather hazey and rather difficult to read, but I think you'll find that Yes, Dijon is in France.
Now to the matter of Brabant, I beleive you used the words "God goven right"? Now may I ask how on earth do you know that God gave you this right? I suppose he came to you while you were sleeping, no? The people of Brabant have been slaves to you Burgundians for long enough. Just as we had to fight for our freedom from the vile Hapsburgs, they should fight for theirs against yourself. If the gift of freedom is not something they want to take then so be it, butwe don't see why the gold of Brabant should line the coffers of Dijon.
In regards to your thinly veiled threat. You're welcome to try. I trust you'll find the mountains of Switzerland most accmoadating. They'd probably do most of the fighting for us.

To the Duke of Anjou:

Duke of Anjou, I, James I, hope for good relations between our two lands, but the only way I see that happening is if you give up your alliance and vassalship with the Imposter Kingdom and pledge your loyality to the King of England, who is the rightful King of France. I hope for a favorable reply.

-His Majesty, King of Scotland, James I

A messenger arrives with a missive:

Sir,

I do not wish to speak with you, for you dishonorably backed out of treaty obligations. Have you already forgotten the atrocities committed upon the Scots by England's Edward I, less than two centuries ago? the noble deeds committed by William Wallace to ensure that you even have a throne?

I, as Duc d'Anjou, am bound by fealty to the legitimate Roi de France, as determined by French law, and I have no interest in rebellion.

I should trust that my relatives on the throne of England do not harm you too much, as they have of yore.

By the Grace of God,

A PM from the Patriarch

A Catholic Greek courier arrives, bearing a sealed letter for the Duke. The Patriarch of Constantinople's seal secures the letter, along with a fine cut of cobalt silken thread. The Greek takes a moment to enjoy the relative peace of the court of Dijon, so alien from cosmopolitan Constantinople.

He hears of the latest gossip from the war against France. This land is free of the Mohammedans, though not of the intrigues of court and nation, he thinks wistfully before departing to the Queen of Cities.

A letter from Constantinople

From His All Holiness Joseph II, Patriarch of Constantinople to His Islamic Majesty al-Mu`aiyad Shaikh, Sultan of the Mameluks, greetings.

Word has spread to Constantinople of the might of your lands, great Sultan. The scholars and writers of Alexandria are as great in your time as they were in the time of Photius. There has been much discussion and debate here in St. Sophia about the many adherants of the Orthodox faith living prosperously and peacefully in your lands, mighty Sultan. Might the Church send peaceful emmisaries to your lands, to better look after the spiritual welfare of your Christian subjects? We do not seek to reconcile the differences between our two faiths, merely to coexist peacefully.

In own hand,
