A steward approaches Aleksandr, offering him a piece of parchment.

"A letter recently arrived from the Duke of Holstein, my lord."

As he reads it, Aleksandr snorts with laughter, balls up the paper, and tosses it into the flaming hearth.

OOC: This is just to tie up some loose ends that Scipio unwittingly left hanging after he left. ;). I'm assuming that his character hasn't died since he didn't post so.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, he thought. Aleksandr had been waiting in the throne room for over an hour waiting for his uncle to answer his summons. As he saw Yuri's grizzled but still mighty frame rounding the halls, he nodded in relief. Following the necessary formalities, he leaned forward out of his modest throne as Yuri stood.

"Uncle, I'm sure you read the communique I forwarded to you."
Yuri smiled faintly at the question, shifting uncomfortably.

"Indeed. I was most disturbed to find out that I was dead. It's not often you heard such rumors." Aleksandr gave a wry smile in response, and composed his next words carefully in his mind.

"I'm sure news does not reach dear Mikhail much up in his den in the Kola. I have already composed notices for him and all of Rus that Yuri of Suzdal had remained here with me for an extended time after we concluded our meeting regarding the Suzdal Pact." Yuri nodded with approval, his face grim now. Aleksandr did not betray his toughts in his expressions, but he cursed his uncle vehemently for not being an easy man to read. No wonder he had resisted Muscowy for so long.

"In any case, uncle, I have had your possessions packed already for your journey back to Vladimir. It was a pleasure to have you as my guest."

"Indeed, Aleksandr, I look forward to a prosperous future for our alliance..."

And with that, Yuri, Prince of Suzdal, strode out of the citadel of Pskov and the city itself, and made his way back to his realm, leaving Aleksandr brooding on his throne.

A letter arrives from Mystra

"Aleksandr IV ,Grand Prince of Pskov

I thank you for your kind words and the fine furs you sent me. Please accept the gift that was delivered with this letter, it is the fingerbone of St Theodore Gavras who fought victoriously against the turks for many years until he was captured, then martyred for refusing to abandon

I apologize for having to ask this before we have communicated before, but as you might be aware the Athenians make war upon the holy Empire, and my forces are sorely pressed. I therefore ask that if you can spare it, you send me some money, so that the Empire can defeat it's enemies and once more be able to effectively defend Christianity.

If you can I would be forever grateful

Constantine Paleologus"

A letter arrives from Mystra

"Aleksandr IV, Grand Prince of Pskov,

The Empire is in it's darkest hour, he Duke of Athens having allied with the Turk to bring us down, an action he earned Anathema with. Our forces are insufficient to fight of these attacks.

So, I beg of you, spare some money so that the Empire of the Romans may have a chance to survive, instead of having the glory of it's memory ground under foot by the merciless infidel armies of the Ottoman Sultan.

Signed

Constantine XI in christ the God, King and Emperor of the Romans"
