Sorry for my unannounced and rather unexpected break from the game ;). Unfortunately, my impending return to classes and all the hectic stress that brings will probably make it impossible to continue as Brittany, so I must resign. Thanks for the fun few weeks though.

Is Hungary free?

Hungary is free, but is too big for a newcomer to the game to cut their teeth on. Usually the powers that be limit new players to 1-3 province realms, tops, and then when players have built up some experience they are free to transfer to a major.

Feel free to look around for smaller places to start out though, and welcome to the game. :)

Just for the record: Gyenes already made an appearance as Aquitania in the game. And even though that appaearance was - sadly enough - very short, let's also note his involvement in the 1558 RPG, his performance there (as far as I can tell from my occasional browsing) is rather good. For me he seems to be a mature player with a proficient use of English, a decent knowledge of history, and unique, innovative ideas. Also, I happen to know that he's in part Hungarian (notice the "gy"), and that's certainly not bad. I think we would benefit from having him as Hungary; and even though a crazy player as H. might indeed cause much trouble, I'd say let's have confidence in Gyenes, especially since he would be under Petrarca's guidance. Just my personal opinion. (And no, we exchanged only two PMs. My sympathy is instinctive :D.)

Also, Gyenes, notice that Hungary is currently in personal union with Bohemia, making Hungary an IC-only vassal of B.

Yes let's let Gyenes have Hungary. Thanks for the nice story SaT. I am suprisied you follow the 1558 RPG, which I might add is a good RPG. I am currently the Tsar in that one and have been for quite a while with a brief interlude for about a month when I was away. Also I won the award for best newcomer if that helps anyway. As for my Hungarian the "GY" does give it away doesn't it... sadly though I am only of the American branch, I don't speak Hungarian fluently... and English is my first language.

I know earlier I didnt have much time to devote to Aquitane, but now I do with Hungary and can say with confidence, "Everything will go as planned. Paprikásh for everyone! Hurray!"

Mmm... Hungary in a personal union with Bohemia, who wrote this history, lol. Oh, well I can make do with it. It is only IC you say so that is good. Well not good, but you get the point.

:EDIT:

With SaT's recommendation, I'll risk giving Hungary to you.

Hungary and Bohemia has a pretty close relationship, as outlined in this treaty. (thanks to cccino for digging it out).

Allthough you can break the treaty, be prepared to face IC-consequences, namely from Bohemia and friends, if you break it.

That being said, welcome to the game.

Please once again visit the National Statistics thread and make a post informing our resident Nat Stats man cccino what your new realm is and what name you have chosen for it's head of state. Now you're ready to post your stupendous court thread!

Please choose between your new role in the Medieval RPG and any role you may have in the 1515 game and adopt that role’s avatar. Either way, please include a mention of your new role in the Medieval RPG in your signature.

We ask that you do not use instant messaging programs like MSN, ICQ and AIM to discuss deals and alliances for the purposes of the game. Doing so generally leads to animosity, mistrust and a lowering of role-playing standards. Unless an RPG Steward is trying to contact you in order to help you understand the game better, it would be better for all concerned if you politely avoid talking about your role in the RPG with other, active players. The forum’s message-posting and private messaging (PM) systems should be all you’ll ever need to play the game.

Second Agreement on Mediterranean Trade

~between the Sultanate of Tunisia and the Italian Trade Union, as signed in A.D. 1450~

Praefatio
With the number of pirates increasing again, with wars and bitter enmity raising its ugly head on the coasts, the good trade and sweet prosperity is diminishing amongst all people of the Mediterranean. However, on seeing the frightening state of affairs, the most noble Sultan of Tunisia and the Council of the Italian Trade Union decide to ease the work of their merchants, so that a new peace shall come to the troubled waters of the Mediterrenean, a peace sealed by the prosperity brought by well-flowing trade.

Article I
The signing parties shall never banish the merchants of each other, and shall never declare a trade embargo against each other. This applies not only to the signing parties as wholes, but also to their parts, i. e. to certain guilds, individuals, member states of the Italian Trade Union (primarily Genoa, Piemonte, Milan and Modena) or the Sultanate of Tunisia, etcetera.

Article II
The merchant ships sailing under the flag of the Italian Trade Union traversing the waters of the Mediterranen shall be given the full protection of the Tunisian navy. Under the orders of the Sultan, pirate attacks against the vessels of the Union will be deterred using resources as deemed necessary by local commanders. Ports of both parties will act as safe harbors and places of sanctuary for the both signing partys’ merchants.

Article III
The merchant ships of both parties may water and take supplies on the islets and ports of the other party without extra tax or tribute.

Article IV
The Italian Trade Union shall be allowed to construct guild houses and bankhouses in the cities of Gafsa, Gabes, Sfax, Tripolis and Tunis. The merchants of the Union shall be allowed to enter these cities freely, without having to pay any taxes or tolls; furthermore, the Union shall be granted the right of holding market in these cities freely, with no taxes imposed on them. However, the local guild houses of the Union shall pay a preset yearly tax to the Sultanate of Tunisia, the sum of which shall be determined by the local representative of the Sultan and the master of the local guild.

Article V
Concerning the Tunisian mainland: the merchants of the Union shall be allowed to travel freely, under the protection of the Sultan of Tunisia. The tolls imposed on these merchants shall be the 110% of those imposed on local merchants.

Article VI
The Tunisian merchants shall be allowed to construct guild houses and bankhouses in the ports of the Union considered major (currently Genoa, Nizza and La Spezia) with having to pay only the 20% of the usual toll, and shall be allowed to hold market in the said cities without tax imposed on them. The Tunisian guildhouses, residences, areas of worship, areas of storage and banking, and other facilities shall be contained in the already built “Moorish Quarters”, currently maintained by the Zayyanid Caliphate. The leaders of the Quarters may apply for the local sovereign’s permission to increase the territory of the ghetto via the usual channels.

Article VIII
Tunisian merchants shall be allowed to to travel freely in the states of the Union, under the protection of the local sovereign. Letters of this protection shall be distributed in the Moorish Quarters. The tolls imposed on these merchants shall be the 110% of those imposed on local merchants.

Article IX
The bank Casa San Maurizio of the Piedmont hereby confines itself to grant loans to the Sultan of Tunisia on favourable terms. Also, the Casa San Maurizio shall send well-learnt advisors to Tunis who shall help the Sultan in handling his finances.

mechanical effect: trade agreement between Tunis and the ITU.

Okey I am taking over Hungary. Not sure who my character should be though as the King of Hungary is the Bohemain King. should I just choose who is historically the head of family of the next king, János Hunyadi, whose second son is Matthias Corvinus (who is 7 now if this is 1450).

I think I would like to inscribe as FEZ, but I have some questions.

I see two treaties in the Archive that state Fez is a party, but they are unsigned by the Fez COS. Are these pending or are they actually in effect?

I see that Fez is a vassal to Algeria and that Algeria conquered Fez. Yet in the Court of Fez I see nothing about a war. I see nothing about Fez being in a war in the Battle Results (closest thing to that happening is Algeria vs. Morocco. What am I missing? :( Why can't I find where Fez was conquered?

I don't know if my inability to find answers to these questions disqualifies me on the account of being too lame to play, but I'll chance it in order to figure out what is going on. :)

The Calipah approached the Sultan "So my brother, we have conversed for so long and you seem as if you support this great step, shall we declare the Islamic Khilafate? or should we still continue in this mindless negotioation.....the time has come to revive the seat of the Calipah and liberate the lands of islam from the east and west from the filth which entreches us all....."

The Great Abbasid Empire: The Rise of The Egyption Abbasids

After intense negotiations from boths sides, and exchanges and modifications in the treaty, both sides have agreed to this version.

Bismallah Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahem

From this day forth, all the Lands of the Mamelukes and the Abbasids shall be united to form a new empire to fight off the enemies of islam. The priorities of this nation will be narrowed into attacking, conquering, and destroying the enemies of islam.

The treaty shall be divided into five main pointers to explain and define everything in the new empire.

Year 1450 October in Christian date, 838 AH
Political: The empire is a Caliphate-free state, meaning it follows the shariah (sunnah), her citizens are free (meaning no feudal classes as the Turks created in Asia minor), and her power is divided into three factions. The council (legistrative), the prime minister (law enforcer) and the Calipah (The executive).
Article One: The Old Abbasid house will always choose the Prime minister. They will be "banned" from this privilege if they misuse it.The Mameluke Dynasty will have the right to choose the Calipah, they are also permitted to veto if he can pass the title to his children or not and as the Abbasids, they will be banned from this power if they misuse it. This order will eliminate any future attempts to gain power by all dynasties. We hope that in time, both dynasties will be joined completely.
Article two: Officials in all provinces shall be appointed by rank as follows:Governor,Sahib Al-Amur, Al-Qadi and several mayors depending on the number of towns. This revolutionary approach shall ensure complete centralization of the provinces.
Article three:All State issues must be resolved with the agreement of the prime minister and Calipah. None may approach a situation without the concent of the other. Unless in emergencies and War-time situations.
Article four: The state shall contain 4 main courts: One the sunni court, the Christian court"private for every sect", the Shiite court "In Kabala and Najaf mainly" and the Jewish courts(depending in how large the community is).

Economic:The Empire opens its arms wide for free trade but is regulated by the shariah and Roman laws to ensure security and prosperity.
Article One:Taxes shall not exceed 5% from "Dhimmis, non muslim citizens" and as for Zakat from all citizens, instead of employing the money for the poor only, some might be converted into Government funds to fund projects and the like. Thus Zakat shall be stated as a government income.
Tarrifs and Merchantile tax shall not exceed 10% for Nominal goods. Valuable goods shall be priced at the state of demand. We ecourage free trade and frown at giving certain nations trade privilleges "Venice and Genoa".
Article two:Markets will be encouraged throughout the realm. The state will support merchants and will fund building new markets in all cities.Cairo will be the Center of trade in the empire.
Article three:No yeomary or peasentry is allowed in the empire. We also encourage outlawing slavery . The Quran and Islam frown upon enslaving man and because of the moral implications it would be best to put an end to it.
The issue to some might have economic disadvantages but we see it as economically advantageous, as slaves will be free citizens, growing and contributing to our society. We all benefit.

Religion:The religion of empire is Sunni, as the majority of our citizens follow this path. Thus laws will be drawns from the shariah.Religious minorities compromise, shiites, Christians and Jews. The minorities will be treated accordingly:
Shiites: Accepted as brothers, the sunnah will be taught to them. They shall have their own courts
Christians: Accepted in all forms, the sunnah will be taught to them.
Jews:Accepted, but because of certain deals striked with their rabbis, they will be exculded from our society in ghettos. Though we encourage them to participate.
We also hope that when our glorius armies capture Andalusia, we can send the jews there.
We must hold on to tolerance as we are all brothers under god as the Quran dictates.
God says " oh yee people we have made you man and woman, and have made you nations and tribes so that you may know each other, the best of you is the most virtuous"

Military: The empire must always hold on to a powerful army and navy. For if we are to strike the crescent into Europe, we must ready the scimitars.
Army: 5 National armies and 90 regiments shall be required.
Navy: 100 Galleys and 60 Rafts are required.

Signed Calipah of Baghdad (X)

We strongly advice the Mamelukes in making "Kamal NorAllah Al-Fatih" as the Calipah of the muslims. He is wise beyond his years, of noble Mameluke and Abbasid blood. Capable at leading any army and understands the way of the state.
caliph.jpg
Kamal NorAllah Al-Fatih
"For Allah!Allah AKBAR!"

Mechanical effects: The Khaliphate is diplo-annexed by the Mamelukes, The Mamelukes dissolve and form a new nation:

Nation: The Islamic Caliphate
Head of State: Kamal NorAllah Al-Fatih
Player: Yoghurt, Coplayer:Caliph
Religion: Sunni
Culture: Islamic (compromising Arabic,Berber,Iberian,Persian, Turk)
Stats: Both Mameluke and The Khaliphate joined
Provinces: Both Mameluke and The Khaliphate joined
Ports: Both Mameluke and The Khaliphate joined
Owned: Both Mameluke and The Khaliphate joined

RP effect: New empire arises

Any in the archive are signed by both parties. Perhaps not signed graphically, but in order to get there they had to be confirmed by the Fez player. Fez was *never* conquered, they willingly entered vassalage under the Algerians, and frankly it saved their hides. Morocco appeared to be making aggressive gestures, so Algiers declared war to protect Fez. Blade! can give a much better account.

It was a mutually agreed upon take over...not hostile in any way. :)
