Since I like the idea of being the Archbishop running the place, I was going to start my court with an (somewhat militant) restoration of the Archbishop's powers.
Is this sort of historical change against the rules? I figure it doesn't effect any other country, and isn't grossly radical (i.e., Great Cthulhu has taken over Koln!).

So I don´t think that it would be any problem for the players or the game if you installed an Archbishop

As any other veteran, you have the right to be put on hold, especially consedering Gelres relative little importance. If you played a major, I'd say that 4 weeks is to long for a break, for with Gelre, it goes.
I've locked Gelres court, it's yours for the taking when you return. Should you not return within this month, Gelre will go NPC. Or if you now announce that you'll return, off course.
