Changes to stats, and ports would qualify as that, is next to impossible.
If you really, really, feel like it, you could ask Lad for an event to simulate you building a port, the best outcome would possibly be +1 sea mil, and the possibility to build navies, for a limited period of time.

However, if you're not into the military side of having a port, you could allways claim that you expand one or more of the numerous fishing-village ports that Friesland gotta have, and start trading (RP-wise) out of that one.

I'm not entirely sure I understand the question. If I have, though, generally, we permit players to generate fictional scions of a popular dynasty - you know, your Hapsburgs, your Plantagenets, etc. - no matter how thoroughly a previous player has tried to purge them from the history books.

I mean, I'd have no problem if a player killed his own, fictional dynasty off for whatever reason, but not one of the biggies. Just off the top of my head, let's say a certain family name carries so much historical significance, that you could have one of your characters claim lineage either through marriage or blood and convince those around him via RP skill. The possibilities are pretty much endless. The potential for old school RP fun, similarly so. ;)

JG :)
Sir,

Historically, only one Luxemburg heir was left. In game, she is dead. Ladislav created Ladislav and deemed him as distant relative the logical heir to Elisabeth von Luxemburg. I have maintained that Ladislav is the last of the family and that no more heirs exist coming out of thin air. Does this prevent another player from making another descendant? Or does it just mean that I myself and another player would have to RP this somehow and hope that we agree on the basic premises?

To once again say what took me so long to say, how are the interplay between multiple fictional genealogies resolved?

I'm afraid not. At the end of the day, it comes down to 'he said, she said', ie: one player say one thing, but another says something else. It's up to the audience (the other players), at that point to decide who is right. I'm not a professional historian, but check out how many claims were made throughout history to various lineages and privelidges and what have you, that were based on total BS.

But on the other hand:

Or does it just mean that I myself and another player would have to RP this somehow and hope that we agree on the basic premises?
That would be even better, since you both, presumably, go away smiling. :)

LOL, I'm still not sure I understand that question. :)

OK, you've used the word 'resolved', so I assume there's a problem to be resolved. Is it what we've been talking about, or something more general? :)

That's basically the answer I'm looking for. :D

Edit: Cheerfully optimistic message sent to Arthur of Kings

K, thanks for the info....
I don't know, I'll have to think something up, because I plan for Friesland to be a sea-fairing nation, with a large navy and good overseas trade routes.....and it would suck if I'd have to go to war with a powerful neighbor just to seize a port that would serve this purpose.

Arthur of Kings,

Given that Petrarca feels strongly that Luxembourg's lineage is tied in so closely with his stake in the game, unless you're willing to contact each other via Personal Message and talk about Luxembourg's Head of State before you begin the game to Petrarca's satisfaction, I'd rather not hand Luxembourg over. He is a respected player and has earned that level of 'say'. However, any of our other 1 or 2 province NPCs is open to you, should you want to try something less involved with the game's history.

Pepin,

The Papal Election thread will be posted shortly - that's the only sure way of winning the Papal hat! If you're interested in running one of your characters for Pope, see the end of the first post in that thread (when it goes up) for details.

In the mean time, I suggest doing as Arthur of Kings did, and pick a 1 or 2 province 'minor' role with which to join in.

And what's the magic word? ;)

Mantua will be fine.

Please once again visit the National Statistics thread and make a post informing our resident Nat Stats man BzAli what your new realm is and also what name you have chosen for it's head of state. Now you're ready to post your stupendous court thread!

If you're already playing in the 1515 game, we leave the choice between the avatar of your role in that game and the role in this one to your personal choice. However, please include a mention of your new role in this game in your signature, either way.

We ask that you do not use instant messaging programs like MSN, ICQ and AIM to discuss deals and alliances for the purposes of the game. Doing so generally leads to animosity, mistrust and a lowering of role-playing standards. Unless an RPG Steward is trying to contact you in order to help you understand the game better, it would be better for all concerned if you politely avoid talking about your role in the RPG with other, active players. The forum’s message-posting and private messaging (PM) systems should be all you’ll ever need to play the game.

Just a small bit of historical input here ;)

Respect JG

It was certainly not unheard of for "Bastard" sons and daughters to lay claim to rule.... the posabilities with that alone is endless, no matter what links other nations claim.

Interplay between multiple fictional genealogies is what we do :D... every single day ;)

Actually, I shall be taking Milan instead.
I don't care very much for realm swapping; neither do I care much for being dictated to which realms are being 'taken'. This is not a very impressive start.

This is the last time, for now, that I shall be agreeing to a change of mind.

JG may differ, but the way i see it - it didnt come to offense yet. just a little ..hmm.. rash might be the word. anyway, you seem a responsible chap so enjoy the game. you'll see its a bit different from 1515. i hope you like it. ;)

ps; please move the discussion to the Lounge if you want to, lest we start spamming the thread.

JG and Arthur,

Having thought the matter over, I would welcome a fellow ruler of the Luxemburg dynasty. Some confusion apparently erupted when I spoke of this earlier- I welcome an independent player of the Duchy of Luxemburg, who would likely be a member of the Luxemburg family (as my king is).

Reb,

I went looking through genealogies and was amazed that the number of bastards exceeded legitimate children in the RPG's era of the Luxemburgs. :D

Edit: It appears there is more confusion between us. Arthur of Kings, I would advise against planning to submit in vassalage to another state so soon. PM(s) sent.

The above mod note gives rise to the following question;
Is it okay to invent characters from other realms, and roleplay them as deem needed, as long as they're not of great importance?

Say, can I invent a Genovese peasant, then have him flogged by Bremer soldiers?
A wealthy merchant, cooperating with the Bremer occupation forces?
How about a minor noble? A major one?

(All of the above for the example only, I have no planes of this sort)
