Ah, hey, I'm gonna take back control of the Kingdom of Latvia (a.k.a. - Teutonic Order)

HoS is still, for the moment, Walter I von Stadion.

EDIT: Bz, could you confirm just what my stats are supposed to be? And, if I ever made peace?

'Duke' of Meckelemburg only, please Wasa. No anachronisms, please.

All-clear given to make a new court, although please post any questions you have about the game in the General Questions thread.

Same here, AP. On this side of teh fence, the thread for questions of any kind, even ones about the stats, is here.

Although in answer to your Q, I know for a fact that Latvia's (currently written up as the Teutonic Order) stats are updated, since I've been doing the stats for the past week. ;)

EDIT: Oh, and you're at peace, too.

Someone should build a better Gulag :p

: Doing the 'happy dance' since the workload has finally been conquered! :

Recomposing himself quickly and quickly scanning to ensure that none witnessed the happy dance, Comrade Docovich adjusts the brim on his fedora and quickly steps inside. No cameras either? Party Secretary Unca' Jo is getting a bit sloppy around here. Perhaps with longevity a bit of nonchalence has crept in? he thought to himself. But then again Unca' Jo has no opposition either now that Ludwigov has been placed under house arrest and the King has been exiled to OT Land. He did quickly staff the joint with Party members...Good!

Stepping briskly up to his former desk, Docovich slides the documents towards the Admissions and Inscriptions Officer. With a lick of his dry lips, Doc speaks before the young officer can address him. "Major Docovich, at your service! I believe that the papers are in order, comrade, showing that my sentence at the Gulag is now complete." Docovich smiled inwardly gazing at the officer of certainly no more than twenty years of age. From the shocked expression of his face he could tell that the officer had read Docovich's "rap sheet" that was well inscribed on the page.

"Da, it is correct Comrade...I have survived the Gulag many times before. General Party Josefsky is ever vigilant you know."

"Business today?" the officer inquired with the dry matter-of-factness that only an overworked bureacrat can truly master.

"I wish to apply for my original postion in Comrade Josefsky's RPG Cabinet...that of England. I have been in contact with the most merciful Party Secretary and he responded that..."

With a quick motion the bureacrat's hand shot upwards in a halting gesture. Comrade Docovich remained silent, for one of rare few occasions in his life, in awaiting the officer's response.

A high-backed chair in the corner of the room that has, until now, gone unnoticed. It swivels round to face the newcomer seemingly of it's own volition.

"We haff been expectink you, Comrade Docovich." The self-important looking git seated in the chair looks coolly at his wristwatch, "A little earlier than scheduled. I trust your recent... accomodations haff been comfortable?" He raises an eyebrow in question.

The pompous oaf seems to have some degree of command over the staff around him for some reason, and he snaps his fingers at one of them. The officer jumps up from his seat and brings Docovich a sheaf of documents bound in a thin, tatty looking folder. Soviet stationary at it's finest.

"I trust you are familiar with one of these inscription orders, Comrade?" The seated chief mod interrupts the former convicts thoughts.

"We expect you to comply with each to the letter," he leans forward, the cheap leather upholstery on the chair creaking under his weight, "failure to do so will mean a return to... your recent 'appointments'"

With that, the chair swivels round once more, and Docovich is left with the sheaf of documents - a familiar set of documents, which read as follows:

Comrade Docovoich, it has been decided by the central committee that the role of Enkland is suitable for you.

Please once again visit the National Statistics thread and make a post informing our resident Nat Stats man BzAli what your new realm is and also what name you have chosen for it's head of state. Now you're ready to post your stupendous court thread!

Please also adopt the avatar of the realm you've been granted and hold onto it whilst you’re playing the RPG.

We advise that you do not use instant messaging programs like MSN, ICQ and AIM to discuss deals and alliances for the purposes of the game. Doing so generally leads to animosity, mistrust and a lowering of role-playing standards. Unless an RPG Steward is trying to contact you in order to help you understand the game better, it would be better for all concerned if you politely avoid talking about your role in the RPG with other, active players. The forum’s message-posting and private messaging (PM) systems should be all you’ll ever need to play the game.

Coup d’Etat in Egypt

i3_0095.jpg

The ruler of the Mamelukes, Imam Hasan is extremely fanatical and has spread Shi'itism to the government of the Hedjaz. Holders of the two most sacred cities in Islam, Mecca and Medina. In Egypt, he has greatly persecuted the nonbelievers. The Sunni majority rises up against the Shi'ite plutocrats, as Islam is threatened by another crusade and their Caliph calls for a Jihad. Seeing their chance, the Ottoman Turks send their crack Pashar Ulgulekh Bey to lead the rebels on a secret embassy. Accompanying him is a choice assortment of his most loyal Janissaries.
The small Turkish contingent aided with Sunni Egyptians storm the Mameluke palace beneath the starry desert night. The confusion ensues as the first daggers find their mark.

1. The janissaries work quickly and quietly. The coup d’etat succeeds before the Shi’ite clerics and Mameluke warrior class can respond effectively. The Sunni population rejoices and the Shi’ites flee Egypt in droves. (+1 morale for 1 year, official religion changes to Sunni)

2. The janissaries work quickly and quietly. Egypt’s former shi’ite masters are awed by the speed of the Sunnis and Turks. (+1 morale for 2 turns, official religion changes to Sunni)

3. The Sunnis aided by the Turks succeed in expelling the Shi’ites from Egypt after small pockets of surprised, but battle ready Mamelukes are overwhelmed in Cairo. (no effect)

4.The Sunnis aided by the Turks succeed in expelling the Shi’ites, but only after moderate fighting in Cairo. The merchant population is distressed and Egypt is viewed with suspicion by the traders. (-1 Tech, -1 Morale for 1 year)

5. The Sunnis aided by the Turks succeed in expelling Shi’ites, but only after heavy fighting in Cairo. Elite Mameluke troops take refuge in a desert stronghold from which they are dislodged only after bloody fighting. The Sunni majority starts pillaging Mameluke palaces in Cairo and a general sense of instability infests the land. (-2 Tech, -2 Morale for 1 year)

6. Mamelukes resist! The Sunnis have not stricken fast enough. Mamelukes scramble to hold on to their power and several leading officials escape the palace slaughter to warn garrisons still loyal to the Shi’ites. The Mameluke armies thus warned are to small to be marshaled in the field, but they are large enough to defend provincial capitals. Merchants are distressed by the obvious lack of stability in Egypt. (-2 Tech, -2 Morale for 1 year, 25% of provinces rise up

Roll:4. The Sunnis aided by the Turks succeed in expelling the Shi’ites, but only after moderate fighting in Cairo. The streets became a temporary battleground and the market section of the city was the scene of some of the heaviest fighting by the desperate Mamelukes against their Sunni assassins. The merchant population is distressed and Egypt is viewed with suspicion by the traders as a number of prominent merchant families were killed in the frenzied battle. (-1 Tech, -1 Morale for 1 year)

Portugal Leaves the Crusade

i2_0019.jpg

The Portuguese withdrawal from the so-called Eleventh Crusade was greeted with a combination of scorn and relief. Most of King Reginald's opponents were secretly relieved that the fighting was cut short with no losses and even a minor victory to their name. Publicly, these same nobles saw an opportunity to lambast their monarch for the abrupt and questionable means by which Portugal gave up the struggle for the Holy Land.

1. Our spineless King is afraid to fight (-2 morale for one year)

2. We should've fought harder for Aleppo (-1 morale for one year)

3-4. It’s about time Portugal left that mad adventure (no effect)

5. Our monarch is saving resources for a later struggle (+1 morale for 2 turns)

6. The taxes raised for the war are kept in the royal treasury (+1 current eco +1 starting eco for 1 year)

Roll:5. Our monarch is saving resources for a later struggle agree the merchants, the sailors and the soldiers. The small duchy in Levant was distant to the weather beaten navigators of Portugal and the ancient kingdom has not actively participated in a crusading effort since the south of the country was liberated from beneath the yoke of the Moors centuries ago. It is better that fighting men are held in reserve for an emergency closer to home, and the troops cheer their good luck in not having to set sail into the boiling cauldron that is the Outremer, grave to many a Christian soldier. (+1 morale for 2 turns)

Siberia welcomes the Hebrews

hanlamp.jpg

The Hebrews are persecuted throughout the world. From Catholic Castile, through Shi’ite Egypt of the Mamelukes. From German Wurzburg to Orthodox Pskov, they seem to always be viewed with scorn, if not outright persecution. To the east alas a nation embraces the plight of the Jews and the Sufi khanate of Sibir, its own official religion a strange child of their neighbor’s Islam and shamanism of their forefathers. But Sibir is a barren land of thick forests and endless winters, on the edge of the world. Will one letter by the Khan be enough to attract the Jews to take a chance on the edge of the globe?

1.The leading Rabbis of Judaism view Sibir as the new Zion where they can live and prosper in freedom. Many skilled Hebrew artisans and merchants relocate to Sibir, making it a center of trade of sorts. (+1 starting eco +1 current eco for 2 years)

2.Some leading rabbis of Judaism view Sibir as a temporary refuge until the situation in the rest of the world becomes more tolerant. Some Hebrew artisans arrive in Sibir. New capital is introduced to the realm. (+1 current eco +1 starting eco for 1 year)

3. A few Jewish families arrive in Sibir, but they are very few to make a difference. (no effect)

4. The Jewish people do not respond to the Khan’s proclamation in any way. (no effect)

5. A few Jewish families relocate to Sibir, but they are low in number. However, local merchants are unhappy with added competition in this poor land. (-1 morale for 2 turns)

6. The Jewish people do not respond to the Khan’s proclamation, but native merchants move away elsewhere in anticipation of the never materialized influx of competition. The slim trade of Sibir shrinks even further. (-1 starting eco for 1 year)

Roll:3. A few Jewish families arrive in Sibir, but they are very few to make a difference. The country is barren, vast stretches of forest. Tayga the inhabitants call it has not attracted sufficient numbers of Jewish merchants. The few families that do arrive are so few that the life in the half forgotten khanate continues as if the Khan never took the plight of the Jews for his own. (no effect)

Rumors of revolt!

i3_0031.jpg

The papal administration of its Albanian lands was minimal at best. The former vassal of the Ottomans became a liege of the Holy Seat and was ruled directly by the Pontiff. The Albanians, orthodox tribesmen, always relishing their independence cannot live as a mere province of foreign lords, the Latin heretics of all! With the death of the Pope, many a clan rises up and seeks to overthrow the yoke of Rome. A number of scheming nobles in Italy view the unrest across the Adriatic as an opportunity for
themselves too. What will the new Pope find when he is appointed?

1. RebellionProvinces rebel. No armies are formed by the rebels, but provincial capital guards refuse to follow orders. Local nobles and merchants betray their oaths to the lord of the land. (Province ‘Albania’ rebels, and - 2 Tech, -2 to morale
to Rome for 4 turns
)

2. Local nobles and merchants betray their oaths to the lord of the land. (-2 Tech, -2 to morale to Rome for 4 turns)

3. Merchants and nobles alike express displeasure. (- 2 Tech, -1 to morale to Rome for 4 turns )

4. Merchants and nobles alike express displeasure. (-2 Tech to Rome for 4 turns )

5. Merchants, and nobles alike express displeasure. (-1 Tech to Rome for 4 turns )

6. The revolt is suppressed by the army before it gathers any considerable strength (no effect)

Roll: 5. Merchants, and nobles alike express displeasure. Surely the College of Cardinals could have appointed the new bishop of Rome faster, especially since the previous Holy Father, peace be onto him, ignored the boiling undercurrents in the newly acquired dominion. And with the new German Pope taking a seat at the Holy See will he be capable of administering such a wild and proudly independent land? For now an ill aftertaste runs throughout the Holy See, all of these problems could have been avoided if the Pope would attend more to his secular duties and less to the unproductive bickering of theology. Or so the third estate thinks.(-1 Tech to Rome for 4 turns )

I am very confused with the English dominion in France; the whole Normandy thingie....I see a capital for Acquitaine on the map, thus it is a vassal and the same for Orleans. I do not see one for Normandy so therefore is it not a vassal but rather directly ruled by the crown. If so, then the English stats need a bit of correction. If not, please let me know.

Thanks much,
Doc

Darn you DH, now how am I supposed to buy Aleppo from the Timurids? ;)

Gentlefolk, please excuse my recent lack of posting. I just got a job and I'm figuring out how to deal with it and school. Except when I have days off expect me to be posting IC alot less frequently for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to resume my usual, or something close to it, rate soon. It shouldn't interfere with my duties as Treaties manager though.

The Golden Horde accepts the two eco (in total) from the Timurid Empire, along with RoP through Athens.

New map uploaded. If there are any issues with it, send it to me by PM. (MSN doesn't help -- I end up forgetting what I changed, so it won't be updated. :p)
